First compare a short clip in bright light with the same scene recorded using a controlled shutter and ISO, then test stabilization and subject distance. The right adjustment depends on which kind of softness you see.
First, identify what “blurry” means in your clip
Look at a short section of the original video, preferably on another screen or player. Notice whether the softness occurs everywhere or only under particular conditions.

- Motion smear: moving subjects or camera movement leave streaked or smeared detail.
- Low-light softness: detail degrades mainly in dim scenes, sometimes alongside visible noise.
- Stabilization artifacts: edges or details look unusual when electronic image stabilization (EIS) is active.
- Close-focus softness: a nearby subject is soft while more distant objects appear clearer.
- Processed appearance: stationary detail looks oversmoothed or unnaturally sharpened rather than simply out of focus.
These symptoms point to different tests; changing one setting at a time makes the result easier to interpret.

Test shutter speed and ISO for motion blur
A longer exposure can record more movement within each frame, which appears as motion blur. A faster shutter can reduce that smear, but it also lets in less light. The Action 6 lets you adjust shutter speed and ISO in PRO mode; there is no single shutter value established as the correct fix for every scene.

- 360° HorizonSteady [11], Rock-Solid Footage - Advanced stabilization minimizes 360° roll-axis shakes, keeping your horizon level and motion smooth. RockSteady 3.0 [11] provides robust stabilization while preserving the dynamic feel of first-person motion. HorizonSteady [11] supports video recording up to 4K/60fps, correcting horizontal tilts and limiting shakes in any direction.
- Reliable Power in Any Weather - Shoot up to 4 hours in normal conditions, with a cold-resistant design that keeps rolling when temps drop. Osmo Action 6 is built for creators and action camera fans.
- Hands-Free, Effortless Shooting - Gesture [13] & Voice Control [14] let you start recording or switch modes easily. Focus fully on your adventure with your Osmo Action 6 action camera.
- Open Image/Audio Settings on the camera and enable PRO mode.
- Set Exposure to M so you can control shutter speed and ISO.
- Record a brief clip of the same moving subject in brighter light, using a faster shutter than in the original clip.
- Compare the clips. If movement looks clearer but the new clip is too dark, add scene lighting or make a deliberate ISO/exposure adjustment, then test again.
Changing shutter and ISO is a diagnostic trade-off, not a guaranteed preset. DJI’s Action 6 FAQ documents PRO-mode exposure controls. DJI’s series-level low-light guidance gives examples of at least 1/200 second for several older named Osmo Action models, but does not establish that value as an Action 6 recommendation.
Compare stabilization on and off
The Action 6 manual lists EIS Off, RockSteady, RockSteady+, HorizonBalancing, and HorizonSteady. Record the same scene once with EIS off and once with an appropriate stabilization mode on. If the EIS-off version looks sharper but shakier, lighting, movement, or the stabilization result may be contributing to the difference.

RockSteady+ crops slightly more of the image edges than RockSteady to provide stronger stabilization. Horizon modes have recording-mode and frame-rate limits, so check the Action 6 user manual for the combinations your recording setup supports. EIS cannot undo motion blur that was already captured during exposure.
Check how close the subject is
DJI lists a minimum focus distance of 35 cm in Fixed f/2.8 and 20 cm in Starburst f/4.0. A subject closer than the applicable minimum may look soft. These are aperture modes with different minimum distances, not a general manual-focus adjustment.

For closer subjects, DJI documents an Osmo Action 6 Macro Lens and a Focus Peaking workflow. With the Macro Lens attached, Focus Peaking can help show what is in focus; DJI says the in-camera feature is available only in Video mode at frame rates of 30 fps or below. See DJI’s Action 6 FAQ for the focus and aperture details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Separate image quality from playback or processing
Review the original file on another screen or player before concluding that the camera recorded soft footage. If the appearance is mostly oversmoothed or sharply outlined, rather than smeared by movement or soft only at close range, the issue may be processing character rather than focus. TechRadar’s review of the Osmo Action 6 discusses processing appearance, but it does not establish that processing is the cause of every blurry clip.

Update the camera, then decide whether to contact support
- Connect the camera to DJI Mimo and follow an offered firmware-update prompt.
- Record a controlled test in bright light with a stationary subject, then review the original file.
- If it remains consistently soft, contact DJI Support and include sample footage and the camera settings used.
DJI documents firmware updates through Mimo, but the available documentation does not identify a general blur-specific firmware fix. An update is a sensible maintenance check, not proof that a softness problem will be corrected.

For a useful diagnosis, change one factor at a time: compare bright with dim conditions, automatic exposure with a manual shutter/ISO test, EIS off with an appropriate EIS mode on, and ordinary subject distance with close-up distance. That can distinguish likely causes, but DJI does not publish a formal Action 6 blur troubleshooting decision tree or a universal setting that fixes every case.
