Phone verification does not make a first YouTube mobile livestream available immediately. YouTube says first-time mobile live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Mobile streaming also requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Check those requirements and your channel’s Feature eligibility status before trying again.
Why phone verification may not be enough
YouTube uses different eligibility checks for different feature levels. Phone verification unlocks intermediate features, but it does not guarantee that mobile live streaming is enabled for your channel. Some features have separate requirements. You can review the feature levels in YouTube’s feature-access guidance.

If this is your first time turning on mobile live streaming, the activation may take up to 24 hours. After it is enabled, YouTube says you can start mobile streams instantly. That first-stream wait is separate from advanced-feature access, which may depend on channel history or identity verification.

- Allow the first activation window to pass. If you just enabled mobile live streaming, wait up to 24 hours before concluding that activation has failed. YouTube gives this as the possible wait for first-time mobile activation in its mobile live-streaming guidance.
- Confirm you meet the mobile requirements. Your channel needs at least 50 subscribers, must be verified, and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Live streaming must also be turned on. These are mobile eligibility requirements, not simply consequences of verifying a phone number.
- Check the channel’s feature status. On a computer, open YouTube Studio and go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Look for the status of live streaming and any other feature access requirements. YouTube’s intermediate and advanced features page explains the distinction between phone verification and other eligibility routes.
- Check for a recent restriction. A live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days makes a channel ineligible for mobile live streaming under YouTube’s stated requirements. Review the channel status and any notices in YouTube Studio; changing devices does not remove a channel restriction.
If the verification code never arrived
YouTube says verification codes should arrive immediately, but delivery can be delayed in densely populated areas or where a mobile operator’s infrastructure is weak. If the SMS does not arrive, try the voice-call option. If that also fails, YouTube recommends trying a different operator. One phone number can be associated with no more than two channels per year. See YouTube’s account verification troubleshooting.

India-specific phone verification
YouTube documents an optional “phone verified” label for India-based channels. On a desktop, the steps are YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Intermediate features → Verify phone number. After verification, the label appears on the channel’s About page and the channel receives intermediate-feature access. YouTube says the label was added in connection with India’s Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Details are in YouTube’s India-based channel guidance.
YouTube’s published guidance does not specify a separate India-only waiting period for mobile live activation. The stated first-time mobile activation window is up to 24 hours. If live streaming remains unavailable after that, check Feature eligibility and follow the account-specific guidance shown by YouTube rather than assuming the India label changes the wait.

Would another way of streaming solve it?
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, and encoder as ways to stream. Mobile has the 50-subscriber threshold described above. A webcam lets you stream from a computer, while an encoder is a separate production setup. These alternatives can suit a creator who does not meet a mobile-specific requirement, but they do not bypass channel verification or a live-stream restriction. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and mobile requirements.
