The most common blockers are country restrictions, account eligibility, and using a traditional brokerage transfer such as ACATS for an onchain Base token.
Coinbase describes MUc as a Base B20 token backed one-for-one by an underlying share. It is a different product from an ordinary Micron share in Coinbase’s brokerage, so the purchase screen, legal availability and transfer route can all differ.

The immediate answer
There are several separate reasons a Coinbase transaction involving MUc can fail:
- Your location is restricted. Coinbase says its tokenized stocks are offered under Regulation S and are unavailable to people in the United States and other restricted jurisdictions.
- Your account is not enabled for the product. A symbol appearing on a public product page does not prove that your country, account, verification status or current app interface has the buy function.
- You are using the wrong transfer system. MUc is described as an onchain token on Base. Coinbase’s ACATS process is for eligible conventional stocks and ETFs and explicitly excludes crypto.
- The asset is not what you think it is. An ordinary Micron share, MUc and another token that tracks Micron are different instruments with different systems and rights.
Coinbase’s public pages cannot identify the cause of an individual failed transaction without the account’s country, asset and network details, route and exact error message. Those facts are needed for an account-specific answer.

What MUc is—and what it is not
MUc is an onchain token
Coinbase lists MUc as its tokenized representation of Micron Technology stock. The page describes Coinbase Tokenized Stocks as Base B20 tokens backed 1:1 by an underlying share held in regulated custody. Eligible users may hold the token in a self-custodial wallet and use it in the Base decentralized-finance ecosystem.
Coinbase also describes a tokenized stock as “an onchain token that gives eligible users direct economic exposure to a listed stock.” The word eligible is important: the description does not promise access to every Coinbase customer or every country.
It is not the same as a brokerage share
Coinbase’s conventional stock service is a separate brokerage product operated through Coinbase Capital Markets. Its published requirements say customers must reside in the United States or United Kingdom, open a Coinbase Capital Markets brokerage account and have USD, USDC or transferred equities available. Brokerage trades settle in USD, and Coinbase says securities services are separate from its digital-asset services. Those requirements apply to conventional stock trading, not automatically to MUc.
Consequently, being able to trade ordinary US shares through a Coinbase brokerage account does not establish that you can buy MUc. The reverse is also true: access to an onchain token feature would not itself create a conventional brokerage account.

Why Coinbase may not let you buy MUc
1. Your country is excluded
Coinbase states that its tokenized stocks are offered under Regulation S and are not available in every market. Its Tokenized Stocks FAQ specifically says they are not available to persons in the United States and other restricted jurisdictions. This is a product-level geographic restriction, not merely a temporary card or bank-payment problem.
A US customer may still see Coinbase’s ordinary stock-brokerage feature because that service has different rules. Seeing a Micron share available in a brokerage screen therefore does not override the restriction on MUc.

The public page lists MUc, but Coinbase does not publish a guarantee that every retail account sees a Buy button, can withdraw to a wallet or can receive the token. Availability can depend on the customer’s verified country, account status, product rollout and the route selected in the app. If MUc appears only as an informational listing, the account may not be enabled for that action.
Do not assume that a missing button means the token has been delisted. Check the account’s country and the exact screen message before treating it as a market-wide outage.
3. Primary issuance is not an ordinary retail purchase path
Coinbase says primary minting and redemption are limited to KYC-onboarded institutional partners and Authorized Participants, using a create-and-redeem model similar to traditional exchange-traded funds and American depositary receipts. That restriction concerns the creation or redemption of the underlying token supply. A retail customer may be able to trade an already available token only where Coinbase enables that market; a customer cannot mint MUc directly merely by holding the underlying Micron share.
4. The asset or network may be wrong
Before sending anything, verify that the holding is specifically MUc on Base. A wallet may contain a similarly named token issued by another project, or an ordinary Micron position held at a brokerage. Token name, contract and network details must match the receiving route shown by Coinbase. A token on another network is not made compatible by having the same ticker or reference asset.

ACATS is for conventional securities, not MUc
Coinbase’s ACATS-in instructions cover moving eligible stocks and ETFs from another brokerage into a Coinbase Capital Markets account. The same page expressly excludes crypto. ACATS is therefore not the documented route for sending MUc from a wallet or another digital-asset platform.
ACATS also moves whole shares. Unsupported account types, unsupported assets and fractional positions can prevent or alter a transfer; Coinbase says fractional holdings may be liquidated into cash depending on the transfer. Those rules apply to conventional brokerage positions, not to Base tokens.
A Base-token transfer uses a different flow
Coinbase describes MUc as living on Base and says eligible users can hold it in self-custodial wallets. A wallet transfer must use the supported onchain address and network displayed in the Coinbase flow. The public product page does not document every retail sending, receiving or withdrawal restriction, so the presence of a Base address alone does not prove that MUc deposits or withdrawals are enabled for your account.
Never substitute an ACATS account number, a brokerage delivery instruction or a bank transfer for a blockchain address. Those systems are not interchangeable.

An ordinary Micron share has its own transfer process
If you own regular Micron shares at another broker, the relevant Coinbase route is the securities account and ACATS eligibility described in Coinbase Help—not the tokenized-stock wallet flow. Confirm that the position is an eligible whole share, the sending and receiving registrations match and the destination is a Coinbase Capital Markets account.
Step-by-step troubleshooting
- Identify the instrument. In the source account, record whether you hold MUc on Base, an ordinary Micron share, or a different token that tracks Micron. Check the exact symbol, network and custody location rather than relying on the display name.
- Check your country. Compare your verified residence with Coinbase’s stated restriction for tokenized stocks. If you are in the United States or another restricted jurisdiction, the MUc buy or token-transfer function may be unavailable even when ordinary brokerage stocks are offered.
- Separate brokerage and digital-asset accounts. A conventional stock feature requires the Coinbase Capital Markets brokerage account and its published US/UK requirements. MUc access follows the tokenized-stock rules; one account type does not automatically authorize the other.
- Match the route to the asset. Use ACATS only for eligible conventional stocks and ETFs. For MUc, follow the Base and self-custody path that Coinbase actually presents in your account. If the app offers no supported destination or deposit option, stop rather than trying an unrelated transfer method.
- Read the complete error. Save the wording, the screen on which it appeared, the network selected and whether the failure occurred during purchase, withdrawal, deposit or account setup. A generic “not available” message has a different implication from an address, compliance or funds error.
- Check account prerequisites. For brokerage transactions, Coinbase lists missing or invalid customer information, insufficient settled cash, regulatory requirements and legal reasons among possible causes of restrictions. Resolve verification and settled-funds issues before retrying.
- Contact Coinbase Support with the evidence. Include your country, product (MUc or ordinary shares), network, transfer route, timestamp and exact error. Public documentation cannot determine an account-specific block without those details.
Which Coinbase route fits your asset?
| Route | What it represents | Published constraint | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coinbase tokenized Micron stock (MUc) | Base B20 token that Coinbase describes as backed 1:1 by an underlying Micron share | Unavailable in the US and other restricted jurisdictions; primary minting and redemption limited to approved institutional participants | Country eligibility, MUc visibility in your account, and the supported Base wallet path |
| Ordinary Micron share in Coinbase brokerage | Conventional brokerage security | Requires eligible US or UK residence and a Coinbase Capital Markets brokerage account | Brokerage enrollment, settled funds or transferred equities, and any securities-account restriction |
| ACATS transfer of conventional shares | In-kind movement of eligible whole-share positions from another brokerage | Stocks and ETFs only; crypto excluded; some account types, assets and fractional positions unsupported | Asset eligibility, matching registration, whole-share quantity and transfer warnings |
What “tokenized stock” does and does not tell you
The term is not a universal legal description. Investor.gov, the SEC’s investor-education site, defines tokenized securities as stocks, bonds or fund interests represented by a crypto asset on a blockchain or similar ledger. It distinguishes several structures:
- Issuer-sponsored tokens may be issued or recorded by the security’s issuer.
- Custodial tokens may represent an indirect interest through a security entitlement or a custodian.
- Synthetic tokens may track an asset’s price without giving the holder rights against the issuer of the referenced security.
Coinbase describes its own tokenized stocks as claims on real underlying shares and contrasts them with synthetic or debt-like products. That is Coinbase’s description of its product, not a definition that applies to every token with a stock ticker. Read the token’s terms, custody arrangement, redemption rules, voting rights, distributions and insolvency treatment before assuming it provides the same rights as a registered share.
How to interpret common failure situations
“MUc is visible, but there is no Buy button”
The listing confirms that Coinbase publishes MUc, not that your account is eligible. Check residence, verification status and whether the product is enabled for your market. If all appear correct, ask Support whether the account is approved for tokenized-stock trading.
“I can buy ordinary Micron stock, but not MUc”
That is consistent with Coinbase operating separate brokerage and digital-asset services. Conventional stock eligibility does not override the Regulation S restriction or other tokenized-stock controls.
Best Value
“ACATS rejected my MUc transfer”
ACATS is the wrong documented mechanism because Coinbase excludes crypto from that process. Determine whether the source is actually a brokerage-held Micron share. If it is MUc, use only the supported Base token route shown for your account.
“The wallet says the network is unsupported”
Stop the transfer. Confirm the token contract and network on both sides. A matching ticker is not sufficient, and sending on an unsupported network can make recovery impossible.
“The brokerage transfer or purchase says my account is restricted”
Coinbase lists invalid or missing information, insufficient settled cash, regulatory requirements and legal reasons as possible brokerage restrictions. Correct the item identified in the notice, then contact Support if the message does not explain the remedy.
