If calls ring while you expect Focus mode to keep your Samsung phone quiet, check Do not disturb call exceptions first. Calls from selected contacts or repeat callers may be allowed through. If just one person can ring, check that contact’s ringtone settings for Ring even when set to Vibrate or Mute.
Check whether Do not disturb is active
On Samsung phones, the interruption controls most relevant to calls are in Do not disturb. A mode or routine called Focus may turn Do not disturb on, but the name and setup depend on the device.

- Swipe down to open Quick Settings and look for Do not disturb, or open Settings and search for “Do not disturb.”
- Confirm whether it is on when the call rings. If it switches on or off automatically, open its schedule and check the days and times.
- If you use a Samsung mode or routine named Focus, inspect its settings to see whether it activates Do not disturb.
Samsung notes that screens and settings can vary by phone model, carrier, and software version. If a menu path below is missing, use Settings search instead. Samsung’s Do not disturb guide describes the mode and its schedules.
Remove call exceptions that should not ring through
Do not disturb can allow calls from chosen contacts or repeat callers. That is intentional behavior, not necessarily a fault. In Settings, search for Do not disturb, then open Allowed during Do not disturb and review Calls and messages.

- Selected contacts or favorites: Change the allowed-caller setting if those callers should also be silenced. Samsung India gives “Favorite contact only” as an example of an exception; the available choices vary by device and software.
- Repeat callers: Turn off the repeat-caller exception if a second call from the same person should not bypass Do not disturb.
- Messages: Review message permissions separately if texts also alert during quiet time; call and message rules may be configurable separately.
Choose the caller policy you actually want, rather than disabling Do not disturb entirely. Samsung’s US instructions cover allowed calls and schedules, while its India guide illustrates a favorite-contact exception.
If only one person rings, check that contact’s settings
A contact can have a ring override that works even when the phone is set to vibrate or mute. Open Contacts, select the person, and inspect that contact’s ringtone and vibration settings. If you see Ring even when set to Vibrate or Mute, turn it off if you do not want that person to ring through.

The exact location or availability of this control can differ across Galaxy models and software versions. Samsung documents it in its troubleshooting guide for a Galaxy phone that rings despite vibrate or mute.
Check ringtone volume and sound mode
If calls still make sound after you remove the relevant exceptions, open Settings and check Sound and vibration. Confirm the sound mode and ringtone-volume slider. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance includes moving the ringtone slider to minimum as a way to ensure the ringer is off. Treat this as a sound-setting check, not a substitute for fixing Do not disturb exceptions if calls are supposed to be silenced by that mode.

Find the right control when menus differ
Samsung warns that settings can vary by model, carrier, and software version, so a path shown for one Galaxy phone may not match yours. Search Settings for Do not disturb, Calls and messages, or the contact-specific ring option. Samsung’s documentation confirms that individual-contact exceptions exist on at least some Galaxy software paths, but does not establish identical availability on every device.
For general Android context, Google also explains interruption controls in its guide to modes and Do Not Disturb; use your Samsung phone’s own menu labels for the actual steps.
