Reduce or stop solution flow first, run the machine over the area in its drying or suction-only method, then inspect the recovery path and floor-contact parts.
Before removing anything, identify whether you have a solution-dispensing floor washer or a conventional shop-style wet/dry vacuum, and find the exact model number. The parts, cleaning steps, and acceptable amount of residual moisture differ by machine. A thin film can even be normal on one model: Xiaomi says the W30 Pro can leave a film after a particular pullback maneuver that dries naturally within 60 seconds. That statement does not establish the same behavior for other vacuums.

Start by identifying the vacuum type
Most reports of “leaving streaks” concern wet-dry floor washers. These machines wet a roller or floor, dispense cleaning solution, and use suction to recover dirty liquid into a tank. Their performance depends on a coordinated spray system, roller, scraper, separator, filter, and suction channel.

A conventional shop-style wet/dry vacuum generally collects liquid through a hose and floor nozzle rather than washing with a powered roller. A blocked hose, wrong nozzle height, full tank, float shutoff, or a filter installed contrary to that model’s wet-pickup instructions can produce different symptoms. Do not apply a floor-washer disassembly procedure to a shop vacuum. Read the exact manual before removing filters, opening a separator, or changing a wet-pickup configuration.

Fix it in this order
1. Stop adding liquid and make a drying pass
Set the spray or solution control to its lowest setting if your machine has one. On the BISSELL CrossWave HF3, the manufacturer specifically advises low spray because a high setting can apply too much solution; it also recommends several passes over the same area to collect residual water. Follow the HF3 guidance at BISSELL’s HF3 streaking support page.
For the BISSELL CrossWave Cordless models covered by its UK support article, the recommended recovery pass is to go over the area without pressing the trigger. That prevents another dose of solution while the machine picks up what remains. The procedure is described in BISSELL’s CrossWave Cordless streaking guidance.
- Release the spray trigger or select the machine’s suction-only, drying, or pickup mode, if provided.
- Move at the speed and direction specified in the manual; do not repeatedly re-wet the same strip.
- Make enough slow passes for the head to recover visible liquid.
- Stop and inspect the floor under good light. A thin, uniform film is different from beads, trails, or a growing puddle.
These button names and pass counts are not universal. If your model has no drying mode, use only the no-spray method that its instructions allow.

Use the cleaning solution, dilution, and amount specified for your exact machine. On the HF3, BISSELL associates non-BISSELL formula with streaking and points users toward its wood-floor formula when cleaning wood. That is model-specific advice, not proof that one company’s formula is suitable for every washer.

Check the flooring instructions as well as the vacuum manual. BISSELL’s cited CrossWave guidance warns against using those models on waxed or unsealed floors. A floor that should not be wet-cleaned can show marks even when the machine is working correctly. Never increase detergent concentration to compensate for poor pickup; excess product can create a film that requires another clean-water or drying pass.
3. Clean the dirty-water recovery path
Liquid pickup falls when air or water cannot travel from the floor head to the dirty-water tank. Turn the machine off, disconnect it from power or remove the battery as the manual directs, empty both tanks, and let hot components cool before opening serviceable parts.
Inspect only components your manual identifies as removable. Depending on the design, the checklist may include:
- The filter or filter pad above the dirty-water tank.
- A dry-wet separator or float assembly.
- The pipe or channel beneath the dirty-water tank.
- The hose, inlet, or suction opening between the floor head and tank.
- Tank seals, lids, and seating surfaces that must close fully for airflow.
For the Xiaomi Truclean W30 Pro, the manufacturer specifically names the dry-wet separator, the filter pad above the dirty-water tank, and the pipe beneath the tank as clog checks. Its instructions are at Xiaomi Malaysia’s W30 Pro wet-dry vacuum FAQ. Use that list as an example of where to look, not as a universal parts diagram.

A filter can be clean but still ineffective when it is damp. The eufy WetVac W31 support article says a sponge filter that is not completely dry can affect suction and mopping performance and leave water stains. Wash or rinse it only as directed, then allow it to dry fully in the manner specified by the manual. Do not use a heater, hair dryer, oven, or direct high heat unless your instructions explicitly permit it; heat can deform filter media or seals.
4. Clean the roller, brush comb, and floor-contact scraper
Hair, threads, grit, detergent buildup, and other foreign material can hold the roller away from the floor or prevent a scraper from channeling liquid into the suction opening. Remove the roller and cover only through the machine’s stated release points. Clear debris from the brush comb, scraper, and nearby channels, and check that the roller is seated correctly before testing.
Inspect the roller for flattening, torn material, loose end caps, or heavy wear. A roller that remains saturated, wobbles, or no longer contacts the floor evenly can leave alternating wet and dry bands. Let a washable roller dry as the manual requires before reinstalling it.

5. Reassemble, then run a controlled test
- Confirm that every cleaned filter is dry enough for the machine’s instructions and that tanks, lids, seals, and separators are seated.
- Install the roller, brush cover, squeegee, or scraper exactly as shown in the manual. A part that is slightly misaligned can change floor contact.
- Use the approved formula at the specified amount, or use no solution for a pickup-only test.
- Test a small, inconspicuous section of the same floor. First make one normal wet pass, then a no-spray recovery pass if available.
- Compare the test area with the untreated floor. If water still accumulates, stop repeating wet passes and move to service or model-specific support.
Normal film versus a fault
Xiaomi Truclean W30 Pro behavior
Xiaomi’s W30 Pro FAQ describes a specific situation in which pulling the machine backward with the squeegee in front can leave a thin water film from the roller brush. Xiaomi says that film dries naturally within 60 seconds. The same FAQ suggests an alternate zigzag method or low-power mode to reduce residue. Keep both the maneuver and the 60-second claim tied to the W30 Pro; they are not a general allowance for every wet-dry vacuum.
If the W30 Pro leaves a large amount of water or the moisture does not behave as described, Xiaomi’s checks are the separator, the filter pad above the dirty-water tank, the pipe beneath the tank, roller dampness or wear, and foreign material around the brush comb, scraper, or floor-contact scraper. Those checks should be performed according to the FAQ and the machine manual.
When a replacement part is justified
Clean and inspect before ordering anything. A replacement is reasonable when the exact compatible component is cracked, torn, permanently deformed, excessively worn, or still unable to maintain contact after cleaning and correct installation. Common candidates include a brush roll, roller, filter, brush-roll filter squeegee, or floor scraper.

- Record the model number and, where applicable, the series or revision printed on the rating label.
- Match the replacement part number and physical design to that model; do not assume a similarly shaped roller fits another machine.
- Replace only the diagnosed part. A new roller will not correct a blocked pipe, and a new filter will not repair a cracked squeegee.
- Use the manufacturer’s installation orientation and seating instructions, then repeat the small-area test.
If you are shopping by category, “wet dry vacuum replacement brush roll” describes the type of part, but it is not a compatibility guarantee. Treat generic listings cautiously and verify the model before purchase.
Common mistakes that make streaking worse
- Keeping the trigger pressed during every pass: the machine keeps adding liquid while you are trying to recover it.
- Using more detergent than specified: concentrated residue can look like a water mark and attract more dirt.
- Reinstalling a damp filter: restricted airflow can return immediately, even after the filter was washed.
- Ignoring the scraper edge: a small crack or worn strip can leave a consistent trail along one side.
- Using the wrong floor setting: waxed, unsealed, or otherwise unsuitable flooring may not tolerate the machine’s wet process.
- Disassembling beyond the manual: hidden seals, wiring, or floats can be damaged, creating a larger leak or suction fault.
- Replacing parts by appearance alone: rollers and filters that look similar can have different mounts, dimensions, or airflow characteristics.
Prevent streaks on the next cleaning session
- Vacuum or sweep loose grit and hair before applying liquid.
- Fill the clean-water tank with the approved solution and dilution for the machine and floor.
- Use the lowest spray setting that achieves the required cleaning result when the model provides that control.
- Keep wet passes deliberate, then make a no-spray or drying pass where the manual recommends one.
- Empty the dirty-water tank before it reaches its limit and clean the recovery components after use.
- Rinse or wipe the roller, brush comb, scraper, and tank area; dry removable filters completely as instructed.
- Store the machine with airflow around drying parts rather than sealing damp components in a closed compartment.
When to stop troubleshooting at home
Stop using the machine and arrange model-specific service when liquid reaches electrical areas, the tank or hose leaks after correct seating, the motor makes an unusual sound, the brush will not turn, or water remains despite a dry filter, clear recovery path, correct formula, and intact floor-contact parts. Persistent residue on a floor that the manual says is compatible can indicate a failed pump, valve, sensor, float, seal, or suction assembly that is not intended for user repair.
Keep the model number, floor type, formula used, and the exact behavior of the residue available for support. State whether the machine leaves a thin film, narrow streaks, or standing water, and whether a no-spray pass changes it. That information helps support distinguish operating setup from a blocked or worn component.
