If a restaurant’s information is missing from Google Maps, first determine whether the missing item is the menu (food and drink content or a menu URL) or an ordering option such as “Order online” or “Place an order.” Google manages those as separate Business Profile features, with different settings, approval rules and display behavior. A restaurant can have a visible menu but no order button, or an order link without a complete menu.
Identify exactly what is missing
Open the restaurant’s listing in Google Maps and describe the missing element precisely. The diagnostic path depends on what customers cannot see:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Menu content or a Menu tab: sections, dishes, descriptions, prices, a menu photo or PDF, or a link to the restaurant’s menu page.
- An ordering control: an “Order online” option, a “Place an order” link, or a pickup or delivery provider link.
Google documents separate management areas for these features. Menu information is edited through the menu editor and the menu-link controls in the Business Profile. Ordering is managed through Food ordering and related business-link settings. Do not troubleshoot an absent order button by changing the menu URL, or treat a menu page as an ordering link.

When the menu itself or its URL is missing
Open the menu editor
The menu editor is intended for food and drink businesses. From the verified Business Profile, use the Edit menu option to add or change menu sections, individual items, descriptions and prices. You can also upload a menu photograph or PDF. If the problem is a missing web address rather than missing dish information, use the profile’s menu-link control under the edit-profile or contact/menu area and save the intended menu destination.

The exact buttons can differ between Google Search and Google Maps, by device and by account permissions. Sign in with the Google account linked to the verified profile before looking for these controls. A customer viewing the public listing will not see the owner-only editing options.
Allow time for menu edits to publish
Google Business Profile Help states: “It can take 24–48 hours for your changes to display on Google Maps and Search.” That is a publication window, not a guarantee that every edit will be accepted or displayed exactly as entered. Check the public listing again after that period, preferably in a private browser window or while signed out, so an old cached view does not mislead you.
Check the menu source Google is using
Google may transcribe menu data from the restaurant’s website, and a profile can have multiple menu sources. If the listing shows an outdated or incomplete menu, inspect the available sources in the menu editor and select the preferred source when that option is offered. Replace an obsolete source rather than adding several competing copies of the same menu.

When the order button or ordering link is missing
Turn on “Accept orders on your profile”
In the Business Profile, open Food ordering and verify that Accept orders on your profile is enabled. Google explicitly states: “If you turn off “Accept orders on your profile,” any third-party order options and links you add are hidden from your Business Profile.” A saved provider or custom link can therefore disappear even though it still exists in the settings.
After enabling the setting, review the providers and custom links shown in Food ordering. If the restaurant offers both pickup and delivery, set the preferred provider for each option when the controls allow it. Save the changes, then check the public listing; the display may not update instantly.
Understand provider-supplied links
Some ordering links are supplied and updated automatically by ordering providers that tell Google they have an authorized relationship with the restaurant. The owner may see such a link on the profile even without manually entering it. Conversely, an owner may not be able to create the expected link if a provider is not available for that restaurant or region.

Review the provider list in Food ordering and the business-link controls. If Google shows a third-party provider that the restaurant does not use, the owner can request removal of that specific link. Google says the provider must remove a requested third-party link within five business days. Keep records of the request and recheck the listing after that period.

Expect regional differences in placement
Ordering presentation varies by country and region. Customers may see choices under an Order online area, or separate Place an order links. The same restaurant can therefore have a configured ordering option that appears in a different location from the one shown in another market. Compare the public profile with the labels available in the owner’s Food ordering screen before assuming the link is absent.
Verify the profile and wait for approval
Google’s policy guidance says: “Your business must be verified before you can add a link.” Link edits also need approval before they publish. If the profile is unverified, or an edit is still pending, the owner may be unable to add a link or may see the change in the management interface without seeing it publicly.
- Confirm that the listing displays as a verified profile when you are signed into the managing account.
- Look for a pending, rejected or unpublished edit status.
- Do not submit repeated copies of the same URL while an earlier edit is under review; duplicates can complicate diagnosis.
- After approval, test the public listing from Google Search and Google Maps, because controls and display can differ.
No single status explains every missing link. A restaurant-specific diagnosis requires inspecting that profile, its verification state and the exact URL.

Use a dedicated destination that completes the promised action
Business links must lead to a dedicated landing page for the specific restaurant and perform the action described by the link. An ordering link should let a customer place an order, rather than opening a generic directory, a search-results page or a page for several businesses. A reservation, appointment or menu link must likewise take the visitor to the corresponding function.

Google identifies malformed URLs, duplicate links and a domain already being used for the same transaction type as reasons a link may not be accepted. Its documented policy allows one link per domain for a transaction type. Check the complete address, including the protocol and path, and remove duplicate versions that point to the same destination.
Test access as Google’s systems would
Google regularly checks business links, at most daily, using automated and manual processes. A link can be removed if automated crawlers cannot access it. The destination should meet all of these practical conditions:
- Unrestricted access for ordinary visitors and Google’s verification crawler.
- A functioning page that returns a successful HTTP status.
- A page that fully loads instead of stopping at a blank screen or an endless redirect.
- No geoblocking that prevents Google from checking the page.
Test the URL in a logged-out browser and on a different network. If it fails there, ask the website administrator to repair the page, redirects, firewall rules or access restrictions. Do not try to bypass Google’s checks; make the destination genuinely functional and crawlable.
Keep the menu URL and ordering URL separate
Google’s representation guidance states: “Menu URLs can’t be direct links to third-party ordering or delivery services.” A menu URL should represent the restaurant’s available items and services. The ordering action belongs in the Food ordering and business-link controls.

A complete meal-specific menu can link to other menu pages when that is how the restaurant organizes its offerings. A sample containing only a few popular dishes is not an appropriate substitute for the full menu. If customers need to choose items, provide the menu page or menu content; if they need to submit a purchase, provide the separate ordering destination.
This distinction explains a common apparent contradiction: a restaurant may have a valid menu page but no “Order online” button because ordering is disabled, unavailable from a provider or awaiting approval. The reverse can also happen: an ordering provider link may be visible while the menu source is outdated or missing.
Use the correct editing path when Search and Maps differ
Google says profile editing features can differ between Search and Maps and by device. If a control described in one interface is not visible, try the other supported path rather than concluding that the feature is unavailable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Sign in to the Google account that manages the verified restaurant profile.
- Search for the exact business name in Google Search and open the Business Profile editing panel.
- If the menu is missing, choose Edit menu or the profile’s menu-link option.
- If ordering is missing, open Food ordering, turn on Accept orders on your profile, and review providers and custom links.
- Open Google Maps while signed into the same account and check whether the equivalent edit controls are available there.
- After saving, allow the relevant review and display window, then inspect the public listing while signed out.
If a link is denied or removed and the owner believes the decision is incorrect, use the request-review path provided on Google’s Business links policies and guidelines page. Include the exact business profile and the destination URL, and ensure the page is working before requesting review.
A practical diagnostic checklist
- Wrong feature: Decide whether the missing item is menu content/menu URL or an order button/provider link.
- Verification: Confirm the Business Profile is verified and the account has owner or manager access.
- Menu settings: Check Edit menu, menu sources, preferred source and the saved menu URL.
- Ordering settings: Check Food ordering and confirm Accept orders on your profile is on.
- Provider status: Review provider-supplied links, preferred pickup or delivery provider and regional availability.
- URL quality: Open the destination while logged out; verify that it is dedicated, complete, functional and not geoblocked.
- Policy fit: Keep the menu URL focused on the menu and the ordering URL focused on completing an order.
- Timing: Allow up to 24–48 hours for menu changes and allow approval time for link edits.
- Display location: Check both Google Search and Google Maps because labels and placement can differ.
What the missing link does not necessarily mean
An absent menu or ordering control does not by itself prove that the restaurant deleted it, that Google has penalized the profile or that a paid ordering product is required. The cause may simply be an unchecked setting, a pending edit, a provider relationship, a regional display difference or a URL that fails validation. Inspect the profile’s actual controls and destination before changing anything else.
