A Makita battery will power a Mellif tool only if that exact Mellif model supports the battery platform. Mellif sells tools for different, non-interchangeable battery groups; its green group is the one it identifies as compatible with Makita batteries. Check the tool model first, then troubleshoot charge, seating, and visible contact problems. If the model is not listed as Makita-compatible, don’t force the pack or try to adapt it.
First, confirm the exact Mellif tool supports Makita batteries
Mellif’s battery FAQ says, “The color indicates battery compatibility. They are not interchangeable.” Mellif identifies green batteries with tools compatible with Makita batteries, but color is only a clue within Mellif’s system—not proof that every Mellif tool accepts a Makita pack. Check the model number on the tool and confirm its manual or current product listing explicitly names Makita 18V compatibility. Mellif’s battery and charger FAQ and its list of tools advertised as compatible with Makita 18V batteries can help identify the platform.

Makita says its 18V LXT batteries are compatible within the LXT platform. That statement applies to Makita’s platform; it does not confirm compatibility with a particular Mellif product. Neither the tool’s brand nor the battery’s nominal voltage alone establishes a match.
Troubleshoot a confirmed compatible pairing
- Check the battery’s charge. Use its charge indicator, if present. If it needs charging, use only a charger specified for that battery. Mellif says its replacement battery must be charged with the matching Mellif charger; do not assume a charger is interchangeable just because the battery fits a tool.
- Switch the tool off and reseat the battery. Remove the pack, look for visible dirt or damage at the contacts, then reinstall it fully. It should seat without force. A Makita adapter manual lists a loose or unconnected adapter as one possible reason equipment will not start, but that is general guidance—not a Mellif-specific diagnostic chart.
- Isolate the likely faulty part, if you have known-good compatible equipment. Try a known-good, correctly matched battery in the Mellif tool, or try the suspect battery in a known-good tool that explicitly supports it. If the problem follows the battery, the pack may be at fault; if it stays with the Mellif tool, the tool may need service. Skip this check if you cannot verify compatibility.
- Stop if anything is hot, damaged, or behaving abnormally. Do not keep testing a hot or visibly damaged battery or tool. Makita’s general manual guidance is to let overheated equipment cool and to seek authorized repair if a fault persists. Follow the Mellif tool’s own instructions and warranty terms.
For any inspection, keep the tool switched off and avoid probing, bridging, or shorting battery terminals. Do not use an unapproved adapter or alter the battery or tool to make an incompatible pack fit.

When to replace a battery—or contact service
Consider a replacement battery only after confirming that the tool supports that battery platform and the original pack appears to be the faulty component. Mellif describes its 18V 4.0 Ah replacement battery as compatible with Makita-compatible Mellif tools and advises checking the tool model. That is Mellif’s product claim, not independent test evidence. Its listing also specifies a matching Mellif charger.
A replacement will not solve a platform mismatch or a fault in the tool itself. If a confirmed compatible battery is charged and fully seated but the tool still will not run, stop troubleshooting and contact Mellif or an authorized repair service. The title alone does not identify the tool model, battery model, or failure pattern, so it cannot establish the specific cause.
