A magnetic phone cooler can make its contact plate—and sometimes the nearby back glass—very cold without reducing the temperature that matters to gaming. The processor, battery and other components sit beneath several layers, and the cold plate may not be over the phone’s actual heat spreader. A case, weak contact, insufficient power, the wrong operating mode or a different measurement point can make the cooler appear ineffective.
Start by identifying which temperature you are checking, then verify the mounting position, case, power and mode for your exact phone and cooler. Compare the same sensor, game, ambient conditions and test duration before and after. Manufacturer claims are conditional surface or laboratory results; they are not guarantees of lower internal sensor readings, higher frame rates or an end to throttling.

What a magnetic cooler is actually cooling
Most magnetic gaming coolers use either a fan to move air across the phone or a thermoelectric (TEC, also called Peltier) element that pumps heat from a cold contact plate to a hot side with a fan. The cold plate only removes heat where it touches the phone. Heat must then travel through the back cover, adhesive layers, internal shields and the phone’s thermal spreader before it reaches that plate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat path is not identical on every model. A magnetic ring can hold the accessory firmly while placing it beside, rather than over, the processor’s most effective heat-spreading area. This hotspot mismatch is a practical possibility, not a universal map: the reviewed manufacturers do not establish one hotspot location for all phones. A cooler’s own plate temperature therefore cannot be treated as the phone’s CPU, battery or internal-sensor temperature.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Why the temperature reading may not change
You are measuring a different surface or sensor
“Temperature” might mean the cooler plate, back glass, battery value in a diagnostic app, or an internal sensor exposed by the operating system. These quantities can move in opposite directions. A cold back panel does not prove that the processor is cooler, and a lower battery reading does not by itself show that game performance will improve.
Published demonstrations use different metrics. ASUS compares the ROG Phone 6’s surface near the CPU with and without its accessory. GameSir reports phone skin temperature. REDMAGIC describes a controlled heat-source test and, separately, the temperature of a suspended cooler. None of those measurements is an equivalent cross-phone internal gaming result.
The case is blocking heat transfer
Plastic, leather, rubber and thick protective cases add thermal resistance and can leave a gap between the plate and the phone. GameSir says its F9 should not be used with a protection cover for the best cooling effect. ELECOM warns that case material and thickness can prevent compatibility. Razer’s Phone Cooler Chroma manual likewise says insulating cases may reduce cooling and weaken the magnetic connection, recommending removal of a case or attached accessory for optimum cooling. Read the instructions for your model rather than assuming every MagSafe-style case is suitable.

The cold plate is not over the useful area
Check the phone maker’s diagram and the cooler’s alignment marks. Flat, full contact matters more than magnetic force alone. A ring or adhesive plate can be offset by a few millimetres, and camera bumps can tilt the cooler so only part of the plate touches. If the cooler uses a supplied magnetic sheet, position it exactly as directed. GameSir warns that placing its sheet over the NFC location can affect NFC, and wireless charging cannot operate through the sheet while it is installed.
The cooler is underpowered or in the wrong mode
Some accessories have no usable internal battery. GameSir specifies a 5 V/2 A USB adapter or power bank for F9 and requires the user to select Normal or Hardcore mode after connecting power. A low-output port, damaged cable or power bank that shuts down at light loads can leave the fan running without full TEC output.
Controls also differ by model. ASUS describes fan-only operation, a TEC mode powered by the phone and an externally powered TEC mode for AeroActive Cooler 6. A phone-powered mode may draw down the handset or deliver less cooling than an external supply. Confirm which indicator, button or app setting activates the intended mode instead of assuming that a spinning fan means maximum cooling.

The game is generating more heat than the accessory can remove
Cooling the back cover does not reduce the electrical power demanded by a high frame-rate game, a bright display or background activity. If the phone is charging during play, include that state in both baseline and cooler measurements. A cooler may lower a surface reading while the internal heat source remains near the same level, so throttling or frame-time spikes can continue.

Step-by-step checks
- Name the measurement. Write down whether you are checking back-glass temperature, the cooler plate, battery temperature or an internal sensor. Use the same source throughout; do not compare a plate reading with a battery value.
- Record a baseline. Use one game, graphics and frame-rate setting, room, phone charge state and test duration. Let the phone reach a repeatable starting condition before recording the value.
- Remove or validate the case. Test without the case if the manual requires it. If you must keep a case, verify that its material, thickness and magnetic ring are listed as compatible. Look for rocking caused by camera bumps or a raised ring.
- Align the accessory. Center the plate on the manufacturer’s recommended area, keep the surfaces clean and ensure the cooler sits flat. If a magnetic sheet is required, check its effect on NFC and wireless charging before attaching it.
- Verify power. Use the specified USB adapter or power bank, cable and port. Check that the cooler remains in its active mode rather than reverting to fan-only operation.
- Select the documented mode. For F9, GameSir’s instructions call for Normal or Hardcore mode. For AeroActive Cooler 6, identify whether you are using fan-only, phone-powered TEC or externally powered TEC. Do not transfer one product’s controls to another.
- Repeat the same load. Run the same game scene or repeatable benchmark for the same length of time. Record the phone’s own sensor and any frame-rate or throttling indicator separately from the cooler’s surface.
- Inspect for moisture. If condensation appears on the plate, phone or case, stop, disconnect power and follow the product manual before using it again.
How to make a fair before-and-after comparison
A touch test taken immediately after attaching a cold accessory is not a sustained gaming test. Use a simple log so each run differs only by the cooler:
| Variable | Keep constant | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Phone and software | Same handset, operating-system version, game build and graphics settings | Different firmware or workloads can change power use and sensor behaviour. |
| Environment | Same room and approximate ambient temperature; GameSir’s published comparison specifies 25°C ambient | Air temperature changes the cooler’s ability to reject heat. |
| Power state | Same battery range and charging status | Charging adds a separate heat source. |
| Mounting | Same case condition, alignment and contact pressure | A gap can overwhelm the cooler’s rated capacity. |
| Duration | Equal warm-up and play time | Short readings show transient contact cooling, not sustained behaviour. |
| Measurements | Same phone sensor and, separately, frame-time or throttling data | Surface, plate and internal readings are not interchangeable. |
Run at least one baseline without the cooler and one with it under those conditions. Treat the result as specific to that phone, game and setup. The available manufacturer comparisons are not a single controlled head-to-head experiment: ASUS reports a ROG Phone 6 surface comparison, GameSir reports skin temperature at 25°C ambient, and REDMAGIC reports laboratory heat-source and cooler-surface tests.

What the published numbers do—and do not—mean
The following figures are manufacturer-reported measurements or specifications. They should be read with the stated test method, not as universal gaming promises.
| Source and product | Reported result | Condition and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| ASUS AeroActive Cooler 6 | Up to 25°C lower surface temperature near the CPU | ASUS laboratory comparison of a ROG Phone 6 with and without the accessory; actual performance may vary. It is a surface result, not a guaranteed internal or frame-rate change. |
| GameSir F9 | Up to 25°C reduction in phone skin temperature | GameSir Lab comparison at 25°C ambient; results vary with environment and refer to skin temperature. |
| REDMAGIC Cryo Cooler 8 Pro | 80°C measured surface-temperature drop after 20 minutes | A stated 10 W constant heat-source test beginning at 95°C, with REDMAGIC 8 Pro Overclock Mode; this is not a general phone-gaming outcome. |
| REDMAGIC Cryo Cooler 8 Pro | 36 W peak output; surface as low as −25°C | REDMAGIC says the test used a cooler suspended in Destroyer Mode at 25°C ambient. It describes the cooler, not necessarily a phone’s operating temperature. |
| ELECOM P-CLPL02BK | Approximately 20°C cooling capability | ELECOM attributes this to company testing; the available page does not state comparable phone, game or ambient conditions. |
Because the metrics and setups differ, subtracting one figure from another or ranking products by these numbers would be misleading. No independent controlled cross-device test establishes a universal winner from these sources.
Choosing the right mounting and power arrangement
| Approach | What to verify | Typical trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Model-specific accessory | Exact phone series, connector or software support and hotspot position | Better alignment and integration, but limited to listed models. ASUS positions AeroActive Cooler 6 for the ROG Phone 6 series. |
| Magnetic plate or sheet | Phone width, adhesive placement, NFC location and wireless-charging effect | Broadens mounting options, but can interfere with NFC or wireless charging and adds another thermal layer. GameSir documents magnetic-sheet and clip options with stated device support. |
| Clip attachment | Grip range, camera clearance and pressure on the case | Works without adhesive on some phones, but may not place the plate over the best heat-spreading area. |
| Fan-only cooler | Airflow path, vents and ambient temperature | Usually avoids a very cold plate, but may remove less heat than a properly powered TEC unit. |
| TEC/Peltier cooler | External power, mode control, case contact and condensation safeguards | Can create a larger local temperature difference, while adding power demand and moisture concerns. |
Use the phone and cooler manuals as the compatibility authority. A magnetic attachment standard does not guarantee that the phone’s thermal layout, case or charging features will work with a particular accessory.

Condensation and safe operation
A TEC plate can become colder than humid room air. ASUS states that excessive cooling could create water condensation and describes a humidity sensor and protection mechanism on AeroActive Cooler 6. The Razer Phone Cooler Chroma manual warns that moisture may form on the cooler and phone in humid conditions and instructs users to wipe moisture before use.
These are device-specific cautions, not proof that condensation will occur in every room. If you see droplets or fogging, disconnect the cooler, dry the surfaces and follow the exact manual. Do not continue gaming with a wet plate, phone port or magnetic sheet.
When a cooler is the wrong fix
If equivalent internal readings and frame-time behaviour do not improve after correct mounting, power and mode checks, the accessory may simply be removing heat from a less important location. A phone can also be limited by software, radio activity, charging heat or an ambient temperature beyond the cooler’s tested conditions. Reduce the game’s frame-rate or graphics load, avoid charging during the diagnostic run and check for background processes before concluding that the cooler has failed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Stop using any accessory that causes unstable mounting, cable heating, repeated power cut-outs or moisture. Contact the cooler or phone manufacturer when the product does not reach its documented mode, the fan stalls, magnets detach or the phone reports an abnormal sensor value. Keep the model number and your controlled test notes ready; support can then distinguish a compatibility issue from normal variation.
A practical checklist before buying or reinstalling
- Confirm the exact phone model and whether the accessory is model-specific or broadly supported.
- Check whether the case must be removed and whether the cooler clears camera bumps and buttons.
- Identify the intended hotspot or alignment mark; do not rely on magnetic centering alone.
- Verify TEC versus fan-only operation, required USB voltage/current and the available modes.
- Check NFC and wireless-charging consequences of any magnetic sheet or plate.
- Read the manual for humidity, condensation and cleaning warnings.
- Decide which phone sensor and gaming metric you will compare, then keep the test conditions identical.
The useful question is not “How cold is the cooler?” but “Did this phone’s relevant sensor and sustained game workload change under the same conditions?” That distinction prevents a cold accessory surface from being mistaken for proof of lower processor temperature or guaranteed anti-throttling performance.
