One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf a football stream says “unavailable in your country” or “this event is blacked out in your location,” the most likely reason is a territorial broadcast-rights rule—not a fault with your television. Rights-holders license each competition by country, and some leagues or broadcasters add local blackouts. A wrong location signal, travel restriction or ordinary network problem can produce a similar message.
Identify the exact competition, match and country first. Then check the competition’s official broadcaster listing. If the match is listed for your country, use the service’s blackout and location checks; if it is not listed, you need the authorized broadcaster for your territory rather than a technical workaround.

What “blocked in your region” usually means
Live football rights are territorial. UEFA’s Statutes, Article 48(1), state that UEFA and its member associations have exclusive rights to broadcast or authorize broadcasts of matches within their jurisdiction, live or recorded. Those rights can be licensed to different companies for different countries, platforms and distribution methods.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConsequently, a subscription that shows a match in one country does not prove that the same service may show it everywhere. A service can carry an entire competition in one territory, highlights only in another, and nothing at all in a third. The message is often enforcing that licensing boundary.

“UEFA and the member associations shall have the exclusive rights to broadcast and use, as well as to authorise their broadcast or use by picture, sound or other data carriers of any kind … matches which come within their jurisdiction, either live or recorded, in whole or as excerpts.”
UEFA Statutes, Article 48(1)
There are four practical categories to distinguish:
| Message or symptom | Likely cause | What it means | Best next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Unavailable in your country” before playback | Territorial rights | The service is not authorized to show that event at your current location. | Use the competition’s official “where to watch” listing for your country. |
| “This event is blacked out in your location” | Local or league blackout | The service carries the sport but a home-market or event-specific rule blocks this game. | Check the provider’s blackout lookup and local listings. |
| You are eligible, but the app reports the wrong country or IP | Location misidentification | Device permission, IP geolocation or a proxy is giving the service an inaccurate location. | Correct location permissions and network identification; contact support if needed. |
| The event page opens but video will not start | Bandwidth or restricted network | Hotel, school, workplace or other closed networks may block streaming traffic. | Try an allowed network with sufficient bandwidth. |
These categories can overlap. A service may first check territorial rights, then apply a local blackout, and finally require device location permission before playback.
Why rights differ by country and competition
Territorial licensing
Competition organizers sell or grant rights for defined territories. The authorized partner for a UEFA match in the United States may not be authorized in Canada, Australia, India or Europe. Rights can also differ between the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, European Championship, Nations League and qualifying matches.
Use the exact competition and season when checking availability. A listing for last season, a different tournament or a different country is not evidence that your match is available.
Local television blackouts
Some services enforce a league or broadcaster blackout when the viewer is inside a participating team’s home television territory. ESPN’s United States support explanation is one example: location is used to enforce applicable blackout policies, and a game can be unavailable even though the service carries the sport generally.

HBO Max gives another United States example. Its support guidance distinguishes a genuine blackout from an IP address that has been blocked or identified incorrectly, and directs viewers to an event lookup tool and local listings. These are platform-specific examples; they should not be treated as a universal rule for every football league or country.
Scheduled blocked hours
Some restrictions are tied to scheduled broadcast windows rather than your device. UEFA’s “Blocked broadcasting hours defined” page lists England blocked hours of 15:45–18:15 CET on specified Saturdays during the 2026–27 season, from August 22, 2026 through April 24, 2027, with listed exceptions. If your event falls in such a window, changing apps or restarting the router will not remove the rule.
How to find the authorized stream for your match
- Write down the exact event. Record the competition, round, teams, kickoff date and kickoff time. “Football” is not specific enough; rights may differ even between two matches in the same week.
- Confirm your current country. Services normally enforce the location where you are watching, not the country in which you opened the account. Travel can therefore change what appears.
- Open the competition organizer’s broadcaster page. UEFA’s Champions League “where to watch” page lists partners by country or region. Its entries can include live partners and, in some territories, highlights-only services. UEFA’s match calendar is another route to official territorial partners.
- Check the current season and exact match. The Champions League partner page was updated October 12, 2026. Partner lists change when rights cycles change, so an old search result or a listing for another season may be wrong.
- Verify package and event inclusion with the listed provider. Being an authorized partner does not guarantee that every match is in every package. Check whether the event is live, highlights-only, subject to a local blackout or restricted to a particular subscription tier. Prices are not established here and vary by provider and country.
What to do when the service should be available
1. Check the provider’s blackout status
Use the service’s official game or event lookup. ESPN’s support page explains home-territory blackouts; HBO Max recommends checking its game lookup and local broadcasts. If the lookup says the event is blacked out, the restriction is intentional and only the authorized local outlet can show it.
2. Allow required device location access
ESPN says location access is required for its service. On a phone or tablet, open the operating system’s app permissions, select the streaming app and allow location while using the app (or the equivalent option shown by your system). On a connected television, follow the provider’s on-screen permission prompt or its device-specific support path.
If permission was previously denied, turning it on later may require fully closing and reopening the app. Do not grant location access to an untrusted app; use the provider’s official application.
3. Correct an IP-location mismatch
HBO Max advises eligible viewers whose IP is blocked or misidentified to disable VPNs, proxies and anonymization services, then retry. These tools can make a legitimate home connection appear to be in another territory and can trigger additional blocking.

Restart the modem or router so your connection receives a fresh network session. If the problem remains, contact the provider with your internet service provider’s name and your public IP address, as its support instructions request. Ask for a geolocation correction rather than a rights exception.
4. Test a permitted network
When the event is authorized but playback fails, test another network you are allowed to use, such as a normal home connection or a personal mobile connection. UEFA.tv notes that congestion can leave insufficient bandwidth and that closed networks in hotels, campuses, hospitals and workplaces may restrict the ports required for streaming.
A faster router, a new streaming stick or a different television cannot create broadcast rights. Hardware changes are relevant only after the service has confirmed that your account and location are eligible.

UEFA’s current Champions League partner list, updated October 12, 2026, illustrates how territorial rights are divided:
| Territory | Examples listed for the Champions League | How to interpret the listing |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Paramount+, TUDN and DAZN | These are examples of listed partners for that competition and territory; confirm the exact match and package. |
| Canada | DAZN and OneSoccer | Availability may differ by event, subscription and season. |
| Australia | Stan Sport | Do not assume the same service carries other UEFA competitions. |
| Indian subcontinent | Sony and Tapmad | Check the specific country within the region and whether the entry is live or highlights-only. |
The table is an illustration of how partners differ, not a universal schedule. It does not establish that every listed service carries every match, nor that any service is authorized outside the named territory.

UEFA.tv is an official service, but UEFA says flagship competitions—including the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, EURO, Nations League and European Qualifiers—are generally not available there live. Its FAQ directs fans to the competition match calendar and official territorial broadcasters instead.

UEFA’s Spain premium FAQ describes temporary portability within the EU/EEA for that specific package, while premium content is unavailable outside the EU/EEA. This is a package-specific travel term, not a blanket entitlement for every UEFA stream or every provider.
Travel, accounts and portability
Travel can change both the rights available to you and the location signal seen by the service. A subscription purchased at home may not travel worldwide. Before departure, read the provider’s portability terms for the exact package and destination. Do not infer global access from the Spain premium example or from a service that works while travelling within one regulatory area.
If you are temporarily abroad and the provider says the event is eligible, use the provider’s supported sign-in and location process. If it says the event is unavailable in that country, the correct remedy is the authorized broadcaster there—not an attempt to disguise your location.
What not to do
- Do not use a VPN or proxy to evade a rights restriction. Official support guidance only supports disabling such tools when they cause a mistaken IP result. Evading a territorial block can violate service terms and often triggers further blocking.
- Do not assume a free stream is legitimate. An unofficial page may expose you to malware, aggressive advertising or account theft, and its availability does not prove broadcast authorization.
- Do not confuse highlights with live rights. A partner listing may mark a service as highlights-only. Confirm that the exact event is offered live.
- Do not keep changing hardware for a rights error. A new device cannot alter the competition’s licensing territory.
A quick decision checklist
- Competition, teams, date and kickoff time identified.
- Current viewing country confirmed.
- Official competition broadcaster listing checked for that country and season.
- Exact match and live-versus-highlights status confirmed with the listed provider.
- Provider blackout lookup checked.
- Required device-location permission enabled.
- VPN, proxy or anonymization service disabled.
- Router restarted and, if playback still fails, an allowed network tested.
- Support contacted with ISP and public IP details when an eligible connection is misidentified.
If the official listing does not name a broadcaster in your country, there may be no authorized live stream available there. If it does name one but the event is blacked out, the blackout policy controls access. If access is authorized and only playback fails, troubleshoot location and network conditions separately.
