First identify where you’re reading: a magazine app, a digital newsstand, or a browser. Then check the connection, available storage, account, app or browser, and issue availability—in that order. The fix differs depending on whether an issue is missing, stuck downloading, or opens with blank or missing pages.
Start by identifying how you read the magazine
A browser reader and a downloaded issue in an app do not work the same way. A web reader may need an active internet connection every time you open it. An app may allow offline reading, but usually only after the issue has finished downloading. For example, Libby says its mobile magazines are not downloaded automatically, and its website requires an internet connection (Libby Help). PCWorld likewise distinguishes its internet-dependent web app from issues downloaded in its app (PCWorld Digital Magazine FAQs).

- Browser: Make sure you are online, then reload the issue or page.
- App or newsstand: Check whether the issue is downloaded; an issue listed in your library may not yet be available offline.
My issue won’t download
Test the connection
Open another website or app to see whether the connection works. If possible, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, or try another Wi-Fi network. If other services work but the magazine does not, continue with the checks below rather than assuming the whole device is offline.

Check available storage
A download can fail when the device is short on space. Check storage in the device settings and remove old magazine downloads or other files you no longer need. Before deleting an issue, confirm that you can download it again. Google Play recommends checking storage as part of download troubleshooting (Google Play Help); Great Magazines also suggests removing old issues to free space (Great Magazines).

Retry and check availability
After confirming the connection and space, retry the download. If only one issue fails, check whether it is available in your app or account. A newly released issue may be delayed or have a release date later than its print edition. Google Play Newsstand advises checking again after 24 hours if its latest issue is delayed; that is Google Play-specific guidance, not a universal release timetable (Google Play Help).
The app crashes, opens blank, or won’t open
- Close the magazine app completely, then open it again.
- Restart the device if the app still fails.
- Check for updates to the app and the device’s operating system.
- If the issue persists, follow the app or platform’s instructions for clearing cache or data.
Apple recommends closing and reopening an unresponsive app, restarting the device, and checking for updates when an iPhone or iPad app closes unexpectedly or will not open (Apple Support). Clearing app data can remove saved issues and settings, so use that step only when you understand what will need to be downloaded or set up again.

The issue opens, but pages are missing or content is damaged
If an issue has blank pages or incomplete content, remove that issue’s downloaded copy and download it again. This targets the local issue file without first removing every magazine from the app. If the problem continues, consult the platform’s cache or data instructions; clearing data may erase downloads and settings. Google Play Newsstand’s troubleshooting guidance includes removing and redownloading an affected issue (Google Play Help).

A missing issue may be an account or entitlement problem, not a broken download. Confirm that you are signed in to the same account used for the purchase or subscription, and check whether you bought the issue through the publisher, a newsstand app, or another store. If the app offers a “Restore purchases” option, use it. If the issue remains missing, contact the publisher or platform and ask them to verify the purchase or subscription on your account. Google Play and Great Magazines both include account or purchase checks in their guidance for missing issues (Google Play Help; Great Magazines).

A magazine page won’t load in my browser
Try another network and reload the page. If you are using Safari on an iPhone or iPad, review your VPN settings: Apple notes that some websites or apps may block content when a VPN is on. Apple also recommends restarting the device, clearing website data, and making sure JavaScript is enabled when Safari will not load websites (Apple Support).
For a magazine reader that is already open but stuck, exit the issue and relaunch it; Pocketmags also suggests a hard refresh for its browser reader (Pocketmags Help). If other sites load but one publisher’s page still does not, contact that publisher’s support team.

Use the symptom to choose the next step
