1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhy is my business not showing up on Bing? First determine whether you mean a missing Bing Maps/Bing Places listing or a website that does not appear in Bing’s web results. A local profile can be unclaimed, unverified, ineligible, inaccurate or suppressed by duplicate-location rules. A website can be absent because Bingbot cannot crawl it, a noindex directive blocks it, the URL is blocked in Bing Webmaster Tools, or Bing has quality, penalty or malware concerns. These are separate systems with separate checks.
Search the exact business name together with its phone number or address, then inspect Bing Maps. If a profile exists, manage it in Bing Places. If the business name and address do not produce a local profile, look it up or add it and complete ownership verification. If the missing item is a web page or the entire site, switch to Bing Webmaster Tools and use URL Inspection. No official guidance promises inclusion, a particular ranking or a fixed recovery time.

Start by identifying what is actually missing
A business can be visible in one Bing surface and absent in another. A Maps listing is a business record; a website result is a crawled and indexed URL. Do not treat a low ranking, a missing map pin and a non-indexed homepage as one “local SEO” problem.
| What you observe | Likely system | First check |
|---|---|---|
| The company appears in web results, but no map card or local profile appears | Bing Places/local listing | Search the exact name, phone and address in Bing Maps; look for an existing unclaimed record. |
| A map profile appears, but the phone, hours, address or website is wrong | Bing Places profile management | Claim the record, verify ownership and correct the fields. |
| The business name appears on Maps, but its website URL does not appear in ordinary Bing results | Bing web index | Run a URL query and inspect the URL in Bing Webmaster Tools. |
| Neither a local profile nor the website is found | Potentially both systems | Complete the Places eligibility and verification checks, then diagnose crawl and index status separately. |
One unsuccessful query is not proof that a listing is absent everywhere. Test the business name with relevant city, neighborhood and service wording, and repeat the check with the phone number or street address.
#1 Best Overall
Check whether Bing already has a listing
Search for an existing record
- Search the exact business name in Bing.
- Add the main phone number, street address or city to the query.
- Open Bing Maps and search the name and location independently.
- Compare any result with the real business. Pay attention to spelling, suite numbers, old phone numbers, duplicate pins and similarly named companies.
If a record exists but is incomplete, it is usually better to claim and update it than to create another entry. A listing that appears for one name-and-location combination but not another may reflect query wording rather than a missing profile.
Use the current owner portal
Microsoft announced on October 3, 2025 that the business-owner experience moved from bingplaces.com to Bing.com/forbusiness. Owners using an old bookmark should enter through the current Bing portal. The announcement describes a free platform for creating and managing listings in Bing search and Bing Maps, with Google imports, bulk editing, real-time status updates and listing recommendations.
After signing in, check the profile status and any recommendations. The recommendation tool can prompt owners to add photos, hours, a website or social links, and, for relevant segments, items such as restaurant menus or online ordering. Those prompts identify missing information; completing them does not guarantee a ranking or appearance for every search.

Businesses with a customer-open address
Bing Places supports a business with a physical location that customers can visit. Supply a valid address for verification and make sure the public details identify the real operating location. A virtual office, mailbox or an address where the business does not serve customers may fail the eligibility test.

Service-area businesses
A business whose employees travel to customers can qualify as a service-area business. It must still provide a valid address to Bing for verification, but Bing allows the address to be hidden from public search results. Do not publish a private residence or tell a service provider to expose its verification address merely to obtain a map listing. Set the service area that the business actually serves.
Departments and “located in” businesses
A department inside another organization, a kiosk or a business described as “located in” another business can have a different listing relationship from a stand-alone storefront. Do not duplicate a department or kiosk as an independent business without checking the applicable Bing rules. Duplicate records can create conflicting ownership and location signals.
Claim, verify and correct the profile
Claim the right record
In the current portal, look up the business before adding a new one. If Bing found a matching record, claim it through the ownership flow. If there is no suitable record, create one with the legal or customer-facing business name used consistently across its channels.
Complete ownership verification
Verification confirms that the person managing the profile is authorized to do so. Follow the available verification method in the account and wait for the portal to show a clear status. If the account cannot access the profile or the status remains unclear, use Bing’s official support entry from the Bing Places help area and select the appropriate country or region.

Audit every important field
- Business name, including punctuation and suite or department wording.
- Street address, city, region and postal code, or the service-area setting.
- Primary phone number and any secondary number shown publicly.
- Website URL, including the correct canonical domain and secure protocol.
- Opening hours, holiday hours, categories, photos and offered services.
Bing recommends keeping the business name, address, phone, website and other key details “consistent and up to date across all of your online channels.” Bing compares submitted information with details available across search engines, websites and social platforms. Resolve contradictions rather than adding more variations: an old phone number on a directory, a shortened street name on a social page and a different business name on the website can all make a record harder to match.
Review imported data before accepting it
If you import information from Google, inspect every field before publishing or synchronizing. Bing’s help documentation says matched records may use Google information to overwrite Bing Places data during synchronization. An import is not a substitute for an accuracy check; verify the address, hours, categories, phone and website after the transfer.
Why an eligible, verified listing can still be hard to find
Eligibility and verification make a profile manageable; they do not promise a position for every query. Bing may show different results for a brand-name search, a broad category search and a search made from another city. Location, wording, competition, profile accuracy and Bing’s own matching systems affect what a searcher sees.

Record whether the profile appears in Maps, whether the pin is in the correct place and whether the displayed phone and website match the verified profile. A profile that appears for the brand but not for a generic service term is a visibility or relevance question, not proof that the listing failed verification.

If the website is missing, diagnose indexing separately
Check index status
- Search Bing for the exact URL or use a URL query to see whether Bing has an indexed version.
- Open Bing Webmaster Tools and add or select the site.
- Use URL Inspection on the homepage and on an affected page.
- Read the reported index status, crawl errors and suggested actions before changing the site.
URL Inspection can identify index status and errors and may suggest requesting indexing, contacting support or editing robots.txt. It is a diagnostic result, not an inclusion guarantee.
Common technical causes
- Robots.txt blocking: A rule can prevent Bingbot from crawling the page or an important section of the site.
noindexdirective: Bing’s guidance states that pages containing<meta name="robots" content="NOINDEX">in the source will not be added to the index. Check the rendered HTML and HTTP headers for an equivalent directive.- Webmaster Tools URL block: A URL may have been blocked in the site’s Webmaster Tools settings. Remove an unintended block and inspect the URL again.
- Access or crawl errors: Server failures, redirects, authentication walls or a broken canonical setup can prevent a usable page from being fetched.
- Quality concerns: Bing may decide that a page does not meet its quality or usefulness expectations. Thin, copied, automatically generated or largely empty pages can be affected; improve the actual content and site experience rather than adding keywords alone.
- Penalty: A manual or algorithmic action can reduce or remove visibility. Webmaster Tools may provide an explanation or a route to support.
- Malware: A compromised site can be restricted or excluded while the security problem is addressed. Scan, remove the malicious code, update the software and follow the remediation instructions shown by Bing.
Make the correction, then recheck
Remove an accidental block, publish the intended canonical page, repair server access or resolve a security issue before requesting another inspection. Keep a record of the exact URL, the error message and the change made. If inspection continues to report a problem, use the suggested support route rather than repeatedly submitting the same request.
Use a two-branch troubleshooting workflow
| Branch | Evidence to collect | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Local listing | Maps search results, duplicate records, profile status, verification state and field accuracy | Claim or add the correct record in Bing Places, verify ownership, correct details and follow the portal recommendations. |
| Website URL | URL query result, URL Inspection report, robots.txt, source-code directives, Webmaster Tools blocks and security notices | Fix the specific crawl, indexing, quality, penalty or malware cause, then inspect the URL again. |
Run both branches when the business has no map profile and no indexed website. Solving one does not automatically solve the other: a verified Places record does not force the website into Bing’s web index, and an indexed website does not create a local listing.
What not to do
- Do not create multiple profiles to cover every spelling, neighborhood or keyword. Check for and claim an existing record first.
- Do not publish a service-area provider’s private verification address.
- Do not change the business name to insert services or locations that are not part of its real name.
- Do not assume that completing every recommendation guarantees ranking, inclusion or a particular correction time.
- Do not request indexing repeatedly while robots.txt,
noindex, a URL block, malware or a server error remains unresolved. - Do not merge a missing map listing and a missing website result into one diagnosis.
When to contact Bing support
Escalate when the owner cannot access a claimed profile, verification fails despite valid information, a duplicate or incorrect record cannot be corrected, or URL Inspection reports an unresolved issue after the technical fix. Use the support path provided in Bing Places help and choose the business’s country or region. Include the profile or URL, screenshots of the status, the exact error text, the account email used for management and the steps already completed. Avoid sending unnecessary personal data, especially a service-area provider’s private address in a public description.
Answers to common questions
Why is my business not showing up on Bing?
It may not have a claimed or verified Bing Places profile, may be ineligible or inconsistent, or may be appearing under a different query. Search the name with the phone and address, inspect Bing Maps and then check the profile status in the current Bing owner portal.
Why is my business not appearing in Bing Maps?
Check for an existing record before creating one. Confirm that the business has a customer-open physical location or a service area served by traveling employees, provide a valid verification address, complete ownership verification and correct the public fields.
Why is my Bing Places listing missing after an import?
Review the imported record and synchronization status. Matched records can use Google information to overwrite Bing Places fields, so an incorrect name, address or duplicate may have been introduced. Correct the data in the managed profile and check its status.
Why is my website not in Bing search results?
Use a URL query and Bing Webmaster Tools URL Inspection. Check robots.txt, noindex, Webmaster Tools URL blocks, crawl errors, quality concerns, penalties and malware. Website indexing is independent of Bing Places eligibility.
How long will it take to appear?
Official guidance reviewed here does not provide a universal recovery or inclusion time. The result depends on the issue, the verification process, crawling and Bing’s evaluation. Treat a status change or inspection result as evidence of progress, not a promised deadline.
The Bottom Line
Diagnose the missing surface first: manage a local profile in Bing Places, and diagnose a missing website URL in Bing Webmaster Tools. Eligibility, ownership verification, consistent business data and a clean crawlable site are prerequisites, but none guarantees a ranking or a fixed appearance date.
