A project called PT-PC now offers a native PC port of P.T., the 2014 PlayStation 4 playable teaser for Silent Hills. PC Gamer reported on October 8, 2026 that its creator, programmer Lorean Xavier, had made the project public that week; Xavier was 21 at the time and had been working on it since 2024. The caveat matters more than anything else about the release: PT-PC does not include the game’s copyrighted files. It runs only with your own P.T. game files, and the project’s documentation says a store PKG cannot be used as-is.
What the project is
PT-PC describes itself as a native port, not an emulator. According to its README, the C++ game logic was rebuilt from the original game’s observed behavior, and the renderer uses Vulkan. Levels, models, textures, audio, scripts and cutscenes are read at runtime from your own PS4 game files. The repository and installer contain no game data. PC Gamer’s coverage says the project is neither an emulator nor a remake, and that it is not a modified version or fork of the shadPS4 PS4 emulator, although Xavier used emulated behavior as a reference while working.

Is it the real P.T. or a remake?
The distinction comes down to where the game’s logic and assets come from. A remake is built from new assets and reinterpreted mechanics. An emulator runs the original PS4 software on other hardware. PT-PC sits between those descriptions: it is a separate program written in C++ that reproduces the teaser’s behavior, but it draws that behavior from the original files you supply. Do you need a PS4 copy?
Yes. PT-PC needs P.T. game files from the PS4 release, and PC Gamer describes the requirement as a dumped copy of the game. The project’s README says the author built and tested the port with the US release, identified as CUSA01127. European and Japanese releases install with a note, but the author has not checked their data himself. Expect the port to work reliably only with the US build until more reports come in.

This article does not address whether obtaining or copying those files is lawful where you live. The project does not resolve that question, and nothing in the release should be read as settling it.
What you need to run it
- Operating system: Windows 10 or 11 x64, or Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer.
- Graphics: A GPU and driver that support Vulkan 1.3.
- Game files: Your own P.T. files, as described above.
- Optional ray tracing: Requires Vulkan ray queries on your hardware.
- Optional upscaling: DLSS requires a GeForce RTX card. FSR and XeSS are described as available on recent GPUs.
- Microphone: Used for one part of the game. A keyboard key can be configured to stand in for the spoken word, so a microphone is optional.
Those requirements come from the project README as it stood in October 2026. The README is live and may change, so check it before installing.

Installing and controls
Setup uses the project’s release installer or a portable zip, both available from the project’s GitHub repository. On Windows, run the installer or extract the zip and point the program at your P.T. files. On Steam Deck, the README directs you to:

- Switch the Deck to desktop mode.
- Install PT-PC using the installer or portable zip.
- Add the program in Steam as a non-Steam game, then launch it from your Steam library.
The README says the port runs on SteamOS. Mouse and keyboard are supported, as are gamepads. On-screen button prompts follow the last input type you used. These are the project’s own documentation claims; the sources reviewed here did not test the Steam Deck setup independently.

Options and default behavior
The port adds a set of PC-oriented options. According to the README, they include:
- Display modes, arbitrary resolutions, and upscaling
- Frame generation and selectable graphics settings
- Ray-traced effects on compatible hardware
- Photo mode, free camera and loop browser
- A museum of discovered content, Game+ and a speedrun timer
- An experimental third-person view and experimental VR support
- Mod support
The default is the PS4 look. The README says the extras are disabled or set to preserve original behavior unless you change them, so a first launch should look and play like the teaser you remember.

Why Xavier built it
Xavier told PC Gamer that he wanted to make the version he wanted as a child. He was also bothered by the prospect of an influential game becoming practically unplayable. In his words: “The idea that something so influential could eventually become practically unplayable never sat right with me.”

P.T. appeared on PSN in 2014 as a playable teaser for Silent Hills, a planned reboot associated with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. After Kojima and Konami fell out and Silent Hills was canceled, P.T. was delisted in early 2015. The report says it then survived through emulation and preserved PS4 hard drives. This chronology comes from that news report; the sources reviewed did not include a separate official archive.

How faithful is it?
The strongest praise so far comes from Australian P.T. dataminer Lance McDonald, whose social post PC Gamer reported on October 7, 2026. He wrote: “This is incredible. Unlike the previous decade of fan ‘recreations’ of P.T. for PC which always seemed to miss important but minor details, this is (as far as I can tell?) a 1:1 port of the entire codebase. It creates all of the undocumented behavior I know of perfectly.”
Read that as one informed impression, hedged by its author. It is not an independent code comparison, and it does not establish that every undocumented behavior has been reproduced. Performance on different hardware is likewise unmeasured in the sources reviewed, so treat frame rates and stability as unverified until players report them.
Xavier on using AI in development
PC Gamer also asked Xavier about AI-assisted development. He said: “I think there’s an important distinction between using AI as a development tool and blindly relying on it to create an entire project you don’t understand.” He says he uses AI to help debug and work through problems, but he remains responsible for architecture and implementation decisions.

The README states that PT-PC is unaffiliated with and not endorsed by Konami or Kojima Productions, and that it contains none of their assets. The README links to the developer’s Patreon for direct support. That link is a donation route, not an affiliate program.
