Vodafone Group Plc is the publicly listed parent company, and its shareholders own shares in that company. Those investors are separate from the companies Vodafone owns or partly owns. Vodafone’s latest cited shareholder figures are dated disclosures, not a live ownership register; its separate Group holding chart is dated 12 May 2026.
Who owns Vodafone Group Plc?

The largest named interest in the annual-report table is e&’s 15.009711% notified as at 31 March 2025. The same report separately cites an SEC filing in which e& and two affiliates reported 15.62% as at 11 February 2025. These are not interchangeable figures: they have different dates and the latter expressly covers e& and two affiliates. Vodafone’s annual report.

Ownership disclosures can also distinguish voting rights from economic interests, direct holdings from interests held through affiliates, and beneficial owners from nominees or custodians. For example, Vodafone reported that J.P. Morgan held approximately 13.88% as nominee for its American Depositary Receipt programme as at 27 May 2025. That nominee figure is not evidence that J.P. Morgan was a beneficial controlling shareholder.
Does e& still own part of Vodafone?
Vodafone later said e& had agreed to dispose of its entire Vodafone shareholding to Vega, an acquisition vehicle wholly owned by the Niel family group. Vodafone also said the strategic relationship agreement with e& had ended and that e& nominee Hatem Dowidar resigned from Vodafone’s Board with immediate effect. The cited announcement establishes an agreed disposal, but does not establish that the transfer completed, give its effective date, or state Vega’s resulting voting-right percentage. It therefore does not support treating Vega as the confirmed current holder or assigning it a specific stake. The earlier strategic relationship and its board nomination provisions are historical context, not evidence that those rights remain active. Vodafone and e&’s strategic relationship announcement.
Which companies does Vodafone own or partly own?
Vodafone’s shareholding in its listed parent is a different corporate relationship from the Group’s interests in operating businesses. Its simplified holding structure dated 12 May 2026 separates consolidated operating companies from associates and joint arrangements. Some interests are held indirectly through Group companies, so a chart’s named entity and percentage should be read together rather than treated as a direct personal holding by Vodafone Group Plc shareholders. Consolidated operating companies
Consolidated companies are included within Vodafone’s Group structure; they may be majority-owned or wholly owned. The chart shows Vodafone Group with a 51% stake in VodafoneThree on 12 May 2026 and Vodacom Group with a 65.1% interest in South Africa. The latter is held through Vodacom Group, so it is an indirect Group-level interest rather than a direct 65.1% holding by Vodafone Group Plc.
Associates and joint arrangements
An associate or joint arrangement is not the same as a wholly owned subsidiary. The chart shows Vodafone Group’s 50% interest in VodafoneZiggo on 12 May 2026, an example of a jointly held business rather than full ownership. The chart’s footnotes also identify announced or planned changes, so a footnoted transaction should not be described as completed unless the source establishes completion.

Why Vodafone Idea’s reported stake changed
Vodafone’s 2025 Form 20-F says its stake in Vodafone Idea was diluted to 16.1% in April 2025. The later holding chart dated 12 May 2026 shows Vodafone Group at 13.0%. These figures refer to different dates; they are not conflicting snapshots of one unchanged position. The chart date and its footnotes matter when interpreting the later figure. How to read Vodafone ownership figures
- Check the date. Shareholder notifications and corporate holding charts are dated snapshots, not necessarily live figures.
- Identify what is being measured. A notified voting-right interest is not automatically the same as economic ownership.
- Check whose interest is included. A percentage reported by a company and affiliates may differ from the company’s own notified interest.
- Follow the entity chain. A stake held by Vodacom or another Group company is indirect at Vodafone Group Plc level.
- Read footnotes for transaction status. Announced, planned, agreed and completed changes are distinct states.
