Amazon owns Ring. Amazon completed its acquisition of Ring Inc. on April 12, 2018. Ring continued operating as a consumer-facing brand, selling video doorbells, cameras, accessories and related services.

When did Amazon buy Ring?

Amazon announced that its acquisition of Ring was complete on April 12, 2018. The acquisition-close announcement identified Jamie Siminoff as Ring’s CEO and Chief Inventor at the time.

Amazon’s 2018 Form 10-K, filed in 2019, reported the transaction as an acquisition of Ring Inc. for approximately $839 million in cash consideration, net of cash acquired. That is the accounting figure reported in Amazon’s filing; it should not be treated as an unqualified estimate of Ring’s value under every valuation method.

Is Ring still a separate company?

Ring did not disappear as a customer-facing brand after the acquisition. In its April 12, 2018 announcement, Ring said it would “continue to be its own brand and support past, current and future Ring products and services.”

Ring’s privacy notice, last updated June 5, 2026, uses “Ring” to refer to Ring LLC and its affiliates. That wording confirms the continuing Ring identity in consumer and privacy materials, but it does not by itself establish every detail of Ring’s current subsidiary structure.

What does Ring make?

Ring is a home-security products and services company. The Federal Trade Commission describes its product categories as video-enabled cameras, doorbells and related accessories and services.

What changed for customers after the acquisition?

The main ownership change was that Ring became part of Amazon while retaining its own brand and product support. Ring products remained identified as Ring products rather than being rebranded as Amazon devices.

Ownership can affect corporate policies, privacy practices, account systems and ecosystem integration. Those details can change independently of the 2018 transaction, so a current feature, subscription term or privacy rule should be checked in the applicable Ring or Amazon documentation rather than inferred from the acquisition date.
