Fireshine Games now owns the studio behind Necesse. On 7 October 2026, Fireshine, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enad Global 7 AB (EG7), acquired Aarhus-based Fair Games ApS, which EG7 identifies as Necesse’s developer and owner. Fair Games founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard remains managing director, and the studio says it will continue directing the game and its updates. Fireshine is expected to take on more publishing and porting work, but no new platform or release date has been confirmed.
Who owns Necesse now?
Ownership moved from independent studio Fair Games ApS to Fireshine Games. Because Fireshine is wholly owned by EG7, the transaction also places Fair Games within EG7’s group. EG7’s 7 October 2026 announcement describes this as an acquisition of Fair Games itself, not merely a publishing contract for one title.

That distinction matters. A publishing agreement can leave a developer independently owned while assigning marketing, distribution or platform duties to another company. Here, the acquired asset is the studio that EG7 calls the developer and owner of Necesse. Fair Games remains the named creative team, but its corporate ownership has changed.
The transaction was funded from EG7’s available cash and was to be consolidated in EG7’s reporting from 7 October 2026. EG7 described Fair Games as an Aarhus-based Danish indie studio with eight employees and two freelancers at the time of the announcement. The studio was debt-free according to the same disclosure.

Did Fireshine buy Necesse or the studio?
Fireshine bought the studio. The game is part of that studio’s business, so the acquisition affects Necesse ownership, but the announcement is not worded as a standalone purchase of the game’s intellectual property. EG7 says Fireshine acquired Fair Games ApS, which it identifies as the game’s developer and owner.
| Area | What changed or remains true |
|---|---|
| Corporate ownership | Fair Games ApS was acquired by Fireshine Games, an EG7 subsidiary. |
| Game direction | Fair Games says it continues to lead Necesse’s direction and upcoming updates. |
| Publishing and porting | Fireshine is expected to help with larger publishing and porting tasks. |
| Studio leadership | Founder and CEO Mads Skovgaard remains managing director. |
| Location | The team is expected to continue operating from Aarhus. |
The practical result is a change in who owns the company behind the game, combined with an announced division of responsibilities in which Fair Games keeps creative leadership and Fireshine adds publishing expertise.
What did EG7 pay for Fair Games?
EG7 disclosed several components rather than one all-in purchase price. The figures below come from EG7’s transaction announcement and should not be treated as an independently audited valuation.
| Consideration | Disclosed amount or condition |
|---|---|
| Upfront payment | US$4.0 million |
| Additional consideration | Up to US$2 million tied to content and platform releases |
| Performance-based earn-out | Potentially 10%–20% of net revenue after deduction of cost for services sold, subject to targets |
| Funding and accounting | Funded from EG7’s available cash; consolidated in EG7 reporting from 7 October 2026 |
Because the extra consideration depends on releases and the earn-out depends on financial targets, adding every maximum together would imply an outcome that has not been established. The announcement supports reporting the disclosed components, not a definitive final purchase price.

Why did Fireshine acquire Fair Games?
Fair Games said it had been looking for a long-term partner for Necesse’s “evergreen future.” The studio’s stated reason for joining Fireshine is access to higher-capacity publishing and platform support while the development team spends more time on the game.
Fireshine’s CEO Brian Foote called Necesse “a perfect addition to Fireshine Games’ portfolio and a natural fit with our experience in survival-crafting games.” Mads Skovgaard said that joining Fireshine would add “high-quality publishing capabilities to fuel continued growth for many years to come.” Those statements describe the strategic rationale; they do not promise a particular sales result, port or update.
Will the same developers keep making Necesse?
The announced plan keeps Fair Games’ named leadership and Aarhus operation in place. Skovgaard remains managing director, and the acquisition notice says the Fair Games team remains in Aarhus. Fair Games’ own FAQ says it will continue leading game direction and upcoming updates while consulting Fireshine.

That is meaningful continuity, but it is not a guarantee about every individual’s future employment. The announcement gives the team’s size at the transaction date—eight employees and two freelancers—but does not provide a future hiring plan, retention guarantee for every worker, individual contract details or a complete reporting structure.

For players, the safest interpretation is that the people and studio responsible for current development are intended to continue, while the ownership and available support around them change.
Will Necesse get fewer updates?
Fair Games told its community that update frequency would probably remain “pretty similar.” It also said updates could become larger because the team expected to have more development time after Fireshine helped with time-consuming publishing and porting work.
This is the developer’s expectation, not a binding release schedule. The acquisition announcement does not list dates, update sizes or a guaranteed cadence. Players should therefore distinguish between:
- Stated intention: similar update frequency, with the possibility of larger updates.
- Operational change: Fireshine helping with publishing and porting tasks.
- Not established: a specific roadmap, patch date or guaranteed increase in content.
Fair Games also said developers would continue responding on Discord, Reddit and Steam. It described Necesse as community-driven and presented those channels as ongoing ways to communicate. Future announcements remain the way to verify whether the expected cadence and communication continue in practice.

Will Necesse come to consoles?
There is no confirmed console port in the acquisition announcement. EG7 says additional platforms and geographic expansion are opportunities for the combined business. Fair Games says Fireshine will help with porting, but neither statement names a console, confirms that development has begun, gives a release window or establishes a price or regional launch plan.
The confirmed platform information remains the existing Steam release. Fair Games’ press kit identifies Necesse as available on PC, Mac and Linux through Steam. The game entered Early Access on 12 December 2019 and reached version 1.0 on 16 October 2025.

Will the acquisition change the game for current players?
No immediate player-facing change was specified. The announcement does not say that the game’s price, save files, store listing, servers, account requirements or update policy will change. It also does not announce a new edition or a platform launch.

What is Necesse, and where was it available before the acquisition?
Necesse is a top-down sandbox action-adventure game set in a procedurally generated world. Fair Games’ press material says Mads Skovgaard originally created it under the alias Fair and later went full-time on the project in 2019.
The official Steam pages identify Fair Games ApS as both developer and publisher and list the base game, a Supporter Pack and the Original Soundtrack as Steam products. The available evidence establishes digital Steam distribution; it does not establish a physical edition, physical soundtrack or game-specific merchandise.

How should players interpret the acquisition announcement?

- Treat ports as possibilities. “Additional platforms” and “porting support” do not identify a console or confirm a release.
- Treat update statements as expectations. Similar cadence and potentially larger updates are plans described by Fair Games, not guaranteed milestones.
- Use later official announcements for timing. The acquisition notice supplies no new platform date, content schedule, price change or regional launch date.
- Watch the existing community channels. Fair Games said it would continue responding on Discord, Reddit and Steam.
What the acquisition means in one sentence
Fireshine Games now owns the Aarhus studio behind Necesse through EG7, while Fair Games remains responsible for creative direction and expects Fireshine’s publishing and porting support to provide more development capacity.
