Lenovo Group Limited is a publicly traded company, not a business owned outright by one person or government agency. In Lenovo’s shareholder table dated March 31, 2025, Legend Holdings Corporation was the largest named shareholder at 31.41%; the table assigned 62.54% to “Others.”
Who owns Lenovo?
Lenovo Group Limited’s shares trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Its published shareholder breakdown shows a mix of investors rather than a single owner. The latest dated company shareholder table cited here is for March 31, 2025:

These are the categories and percentages in Lenovo’s shareholding structure. Lenovo’s 2024/25 Corporate Governance Report says the March 31 chart was based on 12,404,659,302 ordinary shares.
Why does a later filing say 44.87%?
A Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing notice filed September 11, 2026, reports a 44.87% long-position interest for Legend Holdings after an event dated September 8. This is a regulatory disclosure figure, not a revised version of the March 2025 shareholder-table percentage. The notice aggregates multiple kinds of reportable interests, including direct beneficial ownership, interests through a controlled corporation, a concert-party agreement and derivative interests.

The notice lists 2,867,636,724 shares as beneficial owner, 1,247,113,139 through a controlled corporation and 1,628,829,995 through a concert-party agreement, alongside derivative interests. Because the filing combines these categories, it would be misleading to summarize it as “Legend owns 44.87% of Lenovo” without explaining the scope. The filing also reports that Lenovo’s issued ordinary shares rose to 12,798,254,064 on September 8, 2026, following conversion of 2.50% convertible bonds due 2029. The denominator and the disclosure category therefore differ from those in Lenovo’s earlier chart. See the HKEX notice of substantial shareholder interests.
Does the Chinese Academy of Sciences own Lenovo?
Not directly, based on the cited ownership disclosures. Legend Holdings’ 2025 annual report identifies Lenovo as its subsidiary and says Chinese Academy of Sciences Holdings Co., Ltd. (CAS Holdings) held 29.04% of Legend Holdings as of December 31, 2025. That is an ownership link one company above Lenovo, not a direct 29.04% stake in Lenovo.

Legend Holdings describes Lenovo in its annual report as “Lenovo (Stock Code: 0992.HK), our subsidiary, which mainly provides innovative intelligent devices and infrastructure, and offers intelligent solutions, services, and software;” The relationship is between two separate companies: Legend Holdings Corporation and Lenovo Group Limited.
How to read Lenovo ownership figures
- Check the date: Lenovo’s shareholder table is dated March 31, 2025; the later HKEX long-position notice relates to an event on September 8, 2026.
- Check the interest type: An ordinary-shareholder table and a regulatory long-position notice do not necessarily count the same interests.
- Check the corporate layer: CAS Holdings’ reported 29.04% is in Legend Holdings, while the Lenovo percentages describe interests in Lenovo.
- Check the denominator: Lenovo’s issued-share count changed after convertible-bond conversion, so figures from different filing dates should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
