Textron Inc. owns Bell Helicopter. Bell is a wholly owned Textron subsidiary and one of Textron’s aerospace businesses. The aircraft company is generally presented today as Bell or Bell Textron Inc.; “Bell Helicopter” is the familiar legacy name many readers still use.
That relationship makes Bell part of the Textron corporate group, not an independent manufacturer that Textron merely distributes. Bell designs, produces and supports helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft, along with parts and services, for military and commercial customers.

The ownership answer in one sentence
Bell is owned by Textron Inc. Bell’s current company description identifies it as a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron, while Textron’s investor-relations materials list Bell among the corporation’s brands. What “Bell Helicopter,” “Bell” and “Bell Textron” mean
Readers encounter several names because the company’s public branding has evolved, while the aircraft and products remain associated with the Bell name.
| Name | How to understand it |
|---|---|
| Bell Helicopter | A widely recognized legacy name for the helicopter manufacturer and its aircraft business. |
| Bell | The short current name used in the company’s present-day public materials. |
| Bell Textron Inc. | The current corporate-style name used in Bell communications, identifying Bell as a Textron company. |
| Textron Inc. | The parent corporation that owns Bell and includes it among its aerospace brands. |
These labels do not describe four separate manufacturers. “Bell Helicopter” usually points to the same business people now call Bell, while “Bell Textron” makes the parent-company relationship explicit.
What the available sources do—and do not—establish about the name
Current official descriptions support the ownership relationship and the use of Bell and Bell Textron Inc. They also preserve “Bell Helicopter” in historical and familiar usage. The materials available for this question do not establish a complete legal-name-change timeline or a precise date for every branding transition. It is therefore safer to describe “Bell Helicopter” as a legacy name than to claim a specific renaming event that has not been documented here.
How Bell fits into Textron’s businesses
Textron is a diversified corporation with several business operations and brands. Bell is the aerospace operation focused on vertical-lift and related aircraft. Its work extends beyond selling a finished helicopter: the business supplies aircraft, replacement and support parts, maintenance-related services and other assistance to operators.
Textron’s 2024 Fact Book describes Bell as a leading supplier of military and commercial helicopters, tiltrotor aircraft, spare parts and services. That description matters because it distinguishes Bell from a consumer electronics or recreational-product brand. The company serves institutional, government, defense and commercial aviation customers whose aircraft remain in service for years.

Helicopters
Helicopters are Bell’s most recognizable product category. They are used in commercial operations and military or government missions, with support requirements that continue long after an aircraft leaves the factory. Parts availability, technical assistance and service capabilities are therefore part of the business model rather than side activities.
Tiltrotor aircraft
Bell also develops tiltrotor aircraft. A tiltrotor combines vertical takeoff and landing capability with forward flight characteristics associated with an airplane by rotating its engine or rotor systems. Including tiltrotors in Bell’s business description explains why the company is more accurately called an aerospace manufacturer than simply a helicopter maker.

Bell’s offering includes spare parts and services for its installed aircraft base. Those activities can include the continuing support that operators need to keep aircraft available, although the specific contracts and service packages differ by aircraft, customer and mission. The important ownership point is that these activities are part of the Bell business owned by Textron.
What Textron reported about Bell in 2024
Two figures in Textron’s 2024 Fact Book show the scale of Bell within the parent company. They are company-reported figures for 2024, not an independent audit or a forecast.
| Measure | Reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Share of Textron revenue | 26% | Bell’s share of Textron’s 2024 revenue, according to Textron’s 2024 Fact Book. |
| Installed helicopter base | Approximately 13,000 helicopters | Approximate installed base cited by Textron for 2024. |
The revenue figure is a measure of Bell’s contribution to Textron during the 2024 reporting year; it is not a statement that Bell owns 26% of Textron or that Textron owns only part of Bell. The installed-base figure refers to helicopters supported in the field, not the number manufactured in 2024 and not a count of every aircraft ever built.

What “wholly owned subsidiary” means here
A wholly owned subsidiary is a company whose ownership interests are held by its parent corporation. For a reader trying to identify control, the phrase answers the important question: Textron is not merely a distributor, licensing partner or minority investor in Bell. Bell sits inside Textron’s corporate structure.
Recommended Free Tools
Bell can still present its own name, run aircraft programs and communicate directly with customers. Subsidiaries commonly retain operational identities because customers, regulators and suppliers need to know which aviation organization is responsible for a product or service. That operating identity does not change the parent relationship.
Parent company versus operating company
| Corporate role | Entity or name | Reader takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Parent corporation | Textron Inc. | Owns Bell and reports Bell within its corporate group. |
| Aviation subsidiary and brand | Bell / Bell Textron Inc. | Conducts the aircraft business and presents Bell products and support. |
| Legacy reference | Bell Helicopter | Common historical name for the same recognizable aviation business. |
Is Bell the same as Bell Textron?
For most ownership and business questions, yes: Bell Textron Inc. is the current corporate-style name used for Bell as a Textron company, while Bell is the shorter public-facing name. “Bell Helicopter” is the older, widely understood wording.
That answer should not be stretched into a claim about a particular legal renaming date. The official materials establish how the names are used now and how the legacy name remains recognizable; they do not provide a full chronology of every corporate or branding change.
Where Bell is headquartered
Bell’s current official company description places its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The location is significant to Bell’s identity and history, but headquarters location should not be confused with ownership: Textron is the parent corporation even though Bell maintains its own base and operations.

Bell’s local presence is also reflected in a May 21, 2026 company-history article that quoted Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker: “For 75 years, Bell and the City have pioneered a proud legacy, and I’m ecstatic to celebrate our next chapter.” The statement is about Bell’s relationship with Fort Worth and its local history, not evidence of a separate owner.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to verify the relationship from official company materials
If you need to check the ownership for a report, procurement file or aviation-history project, use the wording and dates that match the question you are answering.
- Start with Bell’s current About page. It describes Bell as a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron Inc. That is the clearest direct ownership statement.
- Check Textron’s investor-relations overview. It lists Bell among Textron’s recognized brands, confirming that Bell is part of the parent company’s portfolio.
- Use dated Bell communications for current naming. The September 8, 2025 Bell release calls Bell Textron Inc. a Textron Inc. company, showing how the relationship is presented in a recent company announcement.
- Use the 2024 Fact Book for scale figures. If you cite the 26% revenue share or approximately 13,000-helicopter installed base, identify Textron’s 2024 Fact Book and keep the 2024 qualification attached to each number.
This approach separates three kinds of evidence: ownership language, present-day naming and business-size figures. Mixing them can create avoidable errors, such as treating a revenue percentage as an ownership percentage.
Common misunderstandings about Bell’s ownership
“Textron sells Bell helicopters, so Bell must be independent.”
That inference is incorrect. Bell has its own aircraft business and customer-facing identity, but official Bell and Textron descriptions identify it as a wholly owned Textron subsidiary.

The names reflect legacy and current usage rather than two competing manufacturers. Bell Textron Inc. identifies the Textron relationship; Bell Helicopter is the familiar older reference.
Best Value
“The 26% figure means Textron owns 26% of Bell.”
It does not. The 26% figure describes Bell’s share of Textron’s 2024 revenue, as reported by Textron. Ownership is established separately by the wholly owned subsidiary description.
“The installed base is the number of helicopters Bell built in 2024.”
It is not a production total. Textron’s approximately 13,000 figure describes the installed base of helicopters supported in 2024, meaning aircraft in the field associated with Bell’s support ecosystem.
What this answer does not establish
The ownership conclusion is well supported by current official Bell and Textron materials, with additional corroboration from a 2025 Bell release and 2026 company-history content. Those sources are appropriate for describing the corporate relationship and Bell’s reported business figures.
They do not, by themselves, provide an independently audited reconstruction of every historical ownership transaction, a complete legal-name chronology or a verified inventory of consumer merchandise. If your question is about a specific aircraft title, a historical acquisition date, a parts contract or a collectible model, that is a separate research question and should be answered from the relevant records rather than inferred from the ownership statement.
Bottom line for readers
Textron Inc. owns Bell. Bell is a wholly owned Textron subsidiary and aerospace brand headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. The company now commonly uses Bell or Bell Textron Inc., while Bell Helicopter remains a familiar legacy name. Its business covers military and commercial helicopters, tiltrotor aircraft, spare parts and services; Textron reported that Bell generated 26% of its 2024 revenue and supported an installed base of approximately 13,000 helicopters.
