Scag Power Equipment makes Scag lawn mowers. Scag is a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., which purchased Scag in 1986. Scag says its mowers and other outdoor-power equipment are fabricated and assembled in Wisconsin, using facilities in Mayville, West Bend, Beaver Dam, Fall River, and New Berlin, with plastic fuel tanks molded at a dedicated plastics facility in Horicon.
That answer is more precise than saying every Scag mower comes from one factory. Scag identifies a Wisconsin manufacturing network, while a product-specific certificate places the SFC and SFCII mower families at Metalcraft of Mayville’s Fall River Plant. The certificate does not establish the manufacturing site for every Scag model.

Who owns and makes Scag Power Equipment?
Scag Power Equipment is the maker named on Scag mower products and support materials. The company describes itself as a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc. Scag’s company history says the brand was established in 1983 and that Metalcraft purchased Scag in 1986. Therefore, Metalcraft is the parent company, while Scag Power Equipment is the operating brand responsible for the mowers.

For a buyer, the practical meaning is that a Scag-branded mower is not simply a re-badged machine made for Scag by another mower manufacturer. Scag says its parent company fabricates the products and that Scag controls the product line. That does not mean every component is made in Wisconsin or that every model passes through the same building; the available company information does not make either of those broader claims.
Where are Scag mowers manufactured?
Scag describes a Wisconsin manufacturing footprint rather than a single universal Scag plant. Its stated facilities cover metal fabrication, assembly and related production work, while a separate Horicon site handles plastic fuel-tank molding.

Scag says production in its Wisconsin factories includes punching, pressing, bending, cutting, welding, painting, assembly, packaging and shipping. Those descriptions explain the range of work performed across the network, but they do not provide a plant-by-plant routing chart for each mower model.

What does “made in Wisconsin” mean for a Scag mower?
Scag says its products are fabricated at its parent company and that virtually every Cat’s Eye Gold and textured-black fabricated-steel component is made from scratch by Scag. The company identifies wheels as an exception to that statement. It also says the Metalcraft Plastics Group makes its plastic fuel tanks.
These statements support describing Scag mowers as manufactured in Wisconsin within Metalcraft’s facilities. They do not prove that every engine, transmission, tire, wheel, electrical part or other purchased component originates in Wisconsin. The supplied company information does not publish a complete country-of-origin list for every component, so a precise answer should separate the mower’s fabrication and assembly location from the origin of individual parts.
“Manufactured in Wisconsin” also should not be read as “every model is completed at the company’s headquarters” or “all production happens in one building.” The named cities indicate a distributed operation. Different fabrication, plastics, assembly or logistics tasks may occur at different sites.

Which Scag models are made at Fall River?
A Scag certificate for the SFC and SFCII mower families names Metalcraft of Mayville’s Fall River Plant in Fall River, Wisconsin, as the manufacturing site. That is useful model-specific evidence because it ties those families to a particular facility.
It is not evidence that every Scag zero-turn, stand-on, walk-behind or specialty mower is built at Fall River. Unless a model’s certificate, identification label or current technical documentation names a plant, the accurate description is that the mower comes from Scag’s Wisconsin manufacturing network. Buyers asking about a particular unit should provide the dealer with the exact model and serial number rather than relying on a brand-wide assumption.
How Scag’s dealer network fits into the purchase
Scag says it sells through an authorized dealer and distributor network. Its product information describes dealers as sources of sales assistance, technical service and genuine Scag parts. Scag’s FAQ also says the company does not sell products directly from the factory and directs customers to a local dealer for current pricing and availability.

That arrangement matters when you are checking where a mower was built or whether a part fits. A dealer can match the model and serial number to the correct parts catalog, explain which warranty applies, and identify the service location for the unit. A listing that merely says “Scag mower” without a full model designation is not enough to establish compatibility or warranty coverage.
Questions to ask a dealer before buying
- What is the complete model designation, including any suffix or deck-size designation?
- What serial-number range applies to the machine being offered?
- Which authorized service location will handle warranty work?
- Is the unit intended for commercial use, non-commercial use or both, and which warranty terms apply to that use?
- Can the dealer identify the correct genuine replacement part numbers for the engine, deck, belts, filters and other service items?
Genuine replacement parts and fitment
Scag says genuine replacement parts are designed to its standards for mower fit, safety, quality and performance. Its parts information lists a 30-day warranty for replacement parts, extended to 90 days when an authorized Scag dealer installs the part.

Those periods apply to the replacement part policy described by Scag, not automatically to the entire mower. Before ordering, confirm both the mower model and the part number. Two machines that look similar can use different belts, blades, spindles, electrical components or deck hardware, especially when they come from different production years or have different deck configurations.

If a dealer proposes a substitute component, ask whether it is a Scag-approved part for your exact model and serial range. A generic part may appear dimensionally similar while differing in mounting, load rating, safety characteristics or compatibility with the mower’s control system.

Scag’s warranty duration is product-specific and depends on how the machine is used. The company lists, for several named mower families, two years of commercial machine coverage and three years or 500 hours, whichever comes first, for non-commercial use. Other products have different policies, and the warranty information identifies exclusions such as wear items.

Do not apply the example terms to every Scag product. Before purchase or repair, read the current warranty statement for the exact mower, confirm whether the use is commercial or non-commercial, and check which wear items and maintenance-related conditions are excluded.
How to verify the manufacturing information on a specific mower
Brand-level statements answer where Scag operates, but a particular machine may need model-level verification. Use this sequence when the origin or support history matters:
- Record the identification data. Photograph the model and serial-number labels before requesting information. Include the deck size and any model suffix.
- Ask an authorized dealer to identify the product family. The dealer can determine whether the machine is an SFC, SFCII or another family and can check the applicable parts and warranty documents.
- Request model-specific documentation. For products with a certificate or compliance document, ask whether it names a manufacturing facility. The SFC/SFCII certificate is an example of this kind of evidence.
- Separate factory location from component origin. A Wisconsin manufacturing location supports where fabrication or assembly occurred; it does not by itself establish the origin of every installed component.
- Keep the records with the purchase paperwork. Model, serial, invoice and warranty documents make later parts and service claims easier to resolve.
Common mistakes when researching Scag’s manufacturing origin
- Assigning every mower to Fall River. Fall River is specifically supported for SFC and SFCII by a certificate, but Scag names several Wisconsin facilities.
- Calling Metalcraft a separate outside contractor. Scag identifies itself as a Metalcraft division and says its products are fabricated at the parent company.
- Assuming Wisconsin means every part is domestic. The available statements cover Scag’s fabrication, assembly and fuel-tank molding, not a complete origin list for purchased components.
- Using one warranty term for all models. Scag’s coverage changes by product and use, and wear-item exclusions may apply.
- Buying from an unidentified source without checking the serial number. Dealer support, parts fit and warranty eligibility depend on the exact machine.
- Treating a dealer’s listing as proof of factory origin. A sales page may identify a brand or model without naming the plant where that unit was manufactured.
What this means for a prospective buyer
If your priority is the maker, Scag Power Equipment is the correct answer, with Metalcraft of Mayville as its parent company since the 1986 purchase. If your priority is location, Scag describes manufacturing in Wisconsin across five named factories and a separate plastics facility in Horicon. If your priority is the origin of one particular mower, use its model and serial number and request model-specific documentation; do not infer the plant from the brand alone.
The same model-specific approach applies after purchase. Authorized dealers are Scag’s stated channel for sales assistance, service and genuine parts, while warranty duration depends on the mower family and whether it is used commercially or non-commercially. That combination of factory-network information and dealer-level verification gives a more reliable answer than a single “made at” label applied to the entire product range.
