The official sources cited here do not provide an in-game line, text entry, or developer statement naming the large bird. It is therefore most accurate to describe it as a mysterious background creature that players commonly interpret as Hraesvelgr, rather than as a confirmed character.
It is not one of Odin’s collectible ravens
God of War also has Odin’s Ravens: smaller birds placed around the realms as gameplay collectibles. A Game of Guides / SuperSoluce Helheim guide, dated October 5, 2018, lists six Helheim Odin’s Ravens and their locations. Those collectibles have a different function from the giant bird visible in the landscape.

In a PlayStation.Blog article published December 5, 2018, Anthony DiMento, Lead Player Investment Designer at Santa Monica Studio, described exploration as one of the game’s core design pillars: “God of War was built around three core pillars that would influence all design decisions for the project: Combat, Father/Son, and Exploration.” He also explained that the team added optional activities beyond the critical path.
DiMento grouped “Labors, Ravens, Challenges” in an activity tier for checklists, milestones, and stat counters, without narrative support. That is useful context for the collectibles: their presence does not make each raven a lore-bearing character, and they should not be confused with the much larger environmental bird. It does not, by itself, explain the giant bird’s identity.
