Laufey, better known as Faye, is Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother. She has died before God of War (2018) begins, but her last request—to scatter her ashes—sets Kratos and Atreus on their journey. Along the way, they learn that Faye was a Giant and that she named her son Loki.
Who is Laufey in God of War Ragnarök?
Laufey and Faye are two names for the same character. In the Norse-era God of War story, she is Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother. She is not alive and travelling with them in God of War Ragnarök; her presence is felt through the family’s memories and the consequences of what she set in motion.

The 2018 game opens with Faye’s funeral. She asked Kratos and Atreus to take her ashes to the highest peak and scatter them there. The task gives the grieving father and son a shared purpose, while her absence exposes the distance between them and shapes how they learn to work together.

Faye had taught Atreus to hunt and use a bow. Later, at the temple in Jötunheim, Kratos and Atreus find carvings that depict their journey—signs that Faye had prepared for them before her death. Was Faye a Giant, and why is Atreus also called Loki?
The Jötunheim temple reveals that Faye was a Giant, a fact she had kept from both Kratos and Atreus. The carvings also show that she had given her son the name Loki. Kratos had named him Atreus, so the boy has both names; “Loki” is not a different character or another son.

These revelations change how Kratos and Atreus understand Faye and their place in the events surrounding them. They also connect the family’s personal journey to the Giants and the wider Norse story.
Who plays Faye, and is she in the next God of War game?
Deborah Ann Woll appeared as Faye in God of War Ragnarök and reprises the role in the separately announced God of War Laufey, according to Santa Monica Studio’s announcement. PlayStation identifies Woll as the performer associated with Faye; the announcement does not describe the credit specifically as voice-only.

God of War Laufey is distinct from Ragnarök. PlayStation’s official game page describes it as a story beginning after Faye’s death and currently lists a February 16, 2027 PS5 release date. That announced date is subject to change, and this later game’s premise is not part of Ragnarök’s plot.
