Former Vancouver coach Bruce Boudreau described Kuzmenko as a skilled puck handler and scoring forward, saying: “From the (face-off) circles down, he’s as good as there is handling pucks, a typical Russian sniper.” Boudreau also highlighted role and opportunity, noting that he gave Kuzmenko an important first-line role in Vancouver and later saw him in a similar top-line assignment in Los Angeles. Boudreau said Kuzmenko needed time to adjust to North American hockey and to the work expected at both ends of the ice: “It took him a while to learn the North American game and to realize you have to work a little harder at both ends of the ice.” That comment describes an adjustment period; it does not by itself establish a specific defensive weakness.
