Who Builds RaceQuip Helmets? What the Brand’s Manufacturing Footprint Reveals

RaceQuip is the helmet brand, but its helmets do not all have a publicly established country of origin. The company profile describes a mixed footprint: some production at its Custom Shop in Irmo, South Carolina, and work at overseas cut-and-sew facilities. A retailer lists China as the primary country of origin for one specific helmet, the RaceQuip 277118RQP PRO25. That listing should not be treated as the origin of every RaceQuip helmet.

Who makes RaceQuip helmets?

RaceQuip is the brand name on the helmets. A company profile hosted by The AAM Group says RaceQuip was founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1975. It also says Safe-Quip was formed in Irmo, South Carolina, in 1987, and that Vesta Motorsports USA, Inc., led by motorsports entrepreneur Patrick Utt, purchased both brands in 2006. The profile describes RaceQuip products as carrying forward the combined brands’ motorsports safety gear.

Those details describe the history given in that profile; they do not independently establish RaceQuip’s present corporate ownership chain.

Where are RaceQuip helmets made?

The same profile describes production in more than one place. It says RaceQuip retained “some U.S. production” at The Custom Shop in Irmo, South Carolina, and also uses overseas cut-and-sew facilities to build products to the company’s quality design standards. It does not name the overseas countries or identify which facilities make particular helmet models.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For one model-specific example, the retailer listing for the RaceQuip 277118RQP PRO25 identifies it as a full-face auto racing helmet, lists Snell SA2025, and reports “Country of Origin (Primary) | CN.” This is retailer-provided information for that model, not proof that every RaceQuip helmet is made in China.

How to check the origin and certification of a particular helmet

  1. Identify the exact model. Use the model number on the helmet, packaging, or seller’s listing; a brand-wide statement cannot establish the origin of each model.
  2. Check the current product documentation and physical label. Compare the country-of-origin information on the exact product with the seller’s current listing. If they differ or are absent, ask the seller or manufacturer to clarify before relying on a country claim.
  3. Read the helmet’s own certification label. Confirm the standard shown on that helmet and check whether it meets the rules of the racing organization or event where it will be used. A retailer listing or a certification-related reference for another product category is not a substitute for the helmet label.

What the SFI listing does—and does not—tell you

The SFI Foundation’s Spec 3.3 participating-manufacturer list, updated September 17, 2026, includes RaceQuip for arm restraints and 3.3/5 shoes. It is a list for driver accessories, not evidence that a RaceQuip helmet is certified. The document also says participation is not an endorsement or a company certification, and that product certification is made by the product manufacturer. Check the specific helmet’s label and the rules that apply to your event.

Certification does not remove the need for a proper fit

RaceQuip’s helmet manual stresses proper fit, positioning, and fastening. It also explains that a helmet protects only the areas it covers and cannot prevent every injury. A certification label therefore should not be read as a promise of protection in every crash.
