For Halloween 2026, the Halloween Villager in Disney Dreamlight Valley is Oogie Boogie, the trickster from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. He is the one new Villager unlock in the Season of Scares update. His ghostly companion Zero comes with his questline, but Zero is a companion, not a Villager. “Halloween Villagers” isn’t an official category, so the answer depends on what you count.

Jack and Sally are already part of the Valley. The 2026 Valentine event lists both among the characters who can offer event quests. Nothing in the Season of Scares notes says you must unlock them through the Halloween event. Don’t tell players otherwise.

What counts as a “Halloween Villager”?
The official material doesn’t use “Halloween Villagers” as a formal label. The accurate reading is that Oogie Boogie is the featured seasonal Villager unlock for the 2026 Halloween event. Characters who merely wear spooky outfits or skins, or who are associated with Halloween, don’t qualify. A character is a Villager only if the game treats them as one, and the patch notes call Zero a “ghostly loyal companion.”

How to unlock Oogie Boogie and Zero
Prerequisites
- The Peaceful Meadow unlocked
- Scrooge McDuck’s Store unlocked
- Chez Remy unlocked
Steps
- Go to Scrooge’s shop and investigate the strange mirror, as the official notes direct.
- Start the first of Oogie Boogie’s challenges. The update was announced for September 23, 2026.
- Work through all six weeks of challenges, including the final showdown.
- Zero becomes available through one of Oogie Boogie’s quests along the way.
Deadline
The challenge window runs from September 23 to November 4, 2026. The official notes say that as long as you begin the first quest before November 4, you can unlock Oogie Boogie and Zero at your own pace. Start before the cutoff even if you can’t finish this season.

Other Halloween content that isn’t a Villager
These seasonal events are activities, not characters:
- Haunted Floating Festival: October 7 to October 31, 2026.
- Trick or Treat event: October 14 to October 31, 2026.
- Halloween Town exterior decorations: new Nightmare Before Christmas decorations offered as event rewards.
How last year’s Trick or Treat worked
The 2025 Trick or Treat event is useful context, but its details are not the 2026 schedule. It used red, purple and green Candy Bowls. From October 15 to 30, two bowls of each color appeared every 24 hours, and on October 31 they appeared every hour. Each bowl gave two candies of its color. You could eat the candy or gift it to complete event duties. Rewards included the Haunted Well, Jack-O’-Lanterns, a Mickey Mouse Pumpkin, a Pumpkin Stack, Trick-or-Treater’s Bounties and a craftable Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl. Check the in-game event screen for the 2026 mechanics.
