CHOICE marks the model discontinued. That does not establish that every retailer has run out of stock, but it does mean buyers should not assume it is a current, routinely available model. No live retailer inventory or current price has been verified. Before committing, ask the seller to confirm the exact model number, whether the cooktop is new and unused, delivery timing, return terms, and who will honour the warranty.

On Whirlpool Australia’s product page, the two smaller zones are 145 mm across and rated at 1,200 W each, with 1,500 W boost. The two larger zones are 210 mm across and rated at 2,100 W each, with 2,300 W boost. These are published ratings; they do not establish boil times, temperature control quality or performance against other cooktops.
A separate Whirlpool data sheet for the ACM 804/BA describes power management settings of 2.5, 4, 6 and 7.4 kW, alongside booster and simmering functions. Those settings differ from the Australian page’s 7.2 kW total-power figure. Because these sources are regional product materials and do not publish identical specifications, do not treat their figures as one universal specification set; check the documentation supplied for the exact unit you are considering. Does it fit your countertop?
Whirlpool Australia gives the cooktop’s product dimensions as 580 × 52 × 510 mm and the cutout dimensions as 553 × 30–60 × 483 mm. A nominal 60 cm width alone is not enough to confirm a fit: compare the actual countertop opening and clearance with the documentation for the exact cooktop before purchase. If replacing another unit, have the installer check the opening and installation requirements rather than assuming the old cutout is suitable.

Controls and safety features
The Australian product listing includes a touch slider, timer, child lock, residual-heat indicators, automatic switch-off, pot detection and power management. These are listed features, not a guarantee of how well the controls perform in everyday use. Whirlpool describes induction as heating the pan directly rather than the hob; that is the manufacturer’s explanation, not an independent efficiency test of this model.

Will your existing pans work?
Induction requires compatible cookware. The ACM804BA instructions say to use cookware suitable for induction and describe checking a pan with a magnet: if the magnet sticks to the base, the pan is generally suitable to try. Check your existing pans before buying replacements; a magnetic base is a practical compatibility check, though the cookware maker’s guidance is also useful. ACM804BA user instructions.

Whirlpool’s Australian listing states a five-year manufacturer warranty, but buyers should confirm the applicable terms, coverage and service arrangements for their location and the particular unit. The available instructions cover installation and electrical connection, but electrical work is safety-critical; use Whirlpool’s current official instructions and a qualified installer rather than treating a third-party-hosted manual as a DIY guide.

What the available review evidence does—and does not—show
CHOICE lists the model as 60 cm wide, with 7.2 kW maximum capacity, dimensions of 58 × 51 cm, installation dimensions of about 55 × 48 cm, and a five-year warranty. Its public listing says the model is discontinued and identifies the test year as 2023 or earlier. Performance scores are member-only, so the public information does not establish current relative performance, boil times, reliability, owner satisfaction or running costs.

- It may suit you if you find a confirmed unit, its cutout dimensions match your countertop, the warranty applies where you live, and your cookware is induction-compatible.
- Look carefully before buying if you need a readily available current model, need independent performance comparisons, or cannot confirm regional service and warranty coverage.
For a fair comparison with another cooktop, check the same practical points: cutout fit, zone sizes and rated outputs, power-management options, control and safety features, warranty, verified availability, price and compatibility with the pans you already own. The published material here does not establish that the ACM804BA is better or worse than a current alternative.
