Which Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Settings Should You Change for a Replay?

For a replay of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there is no universally best settings preset. Recheck camera sensitivity and inversion first, then decide whether motion aiming, jump controls, the HUD and minimap suit you. Before changing anything, use the in-game System Menu to refresh your memory of the controls and any Special Controls you have learned.

Refresh your controls before changing settings

Nintendo’s control guide says to press the + Button, then use the R Button to navigate to the System Menu and review the game’s controls. Special Controls displays advanced actions after you encounter them in-game; some Shrines of Light also teach actions as tutorials. The Adventure Log is another useful refresher because it keeps track of quests you have started and finished.

The in-game Options can be opened from the menu or title screen, according to a third-party settings guide. For amiibo specifically, Nintendo confirms the route from the game: press +, use R to reach System Menu, then select Options.

Which settings are worth revisiting?

Change one setting at a time, then try it in both exploration and combat. That makes it easier to tell whether a change actually suits you instead of replacing familiar controls with a different set of surprises.

Camera sensitivity and inversion

If the camera feels sluggish or too quick after a long break, adjust its sensitivity in a small step and see how it feels while exploring and fighting. There is no objectively best value established for every player. Check vertical and horizontal inversion as well: restore the axes you are accustomed to before experimenting with other controls.

Motion aiming and jump controls

Keep or enable aim with motion controls if moving the controller helps you make fine bow adjustments. Turn it off if motion input distracts you or makes aiming less comfortable. The game also has a swap jump controls option; try it if the default jump input no longer feels natural.

HUD and minimap orientation

Choose the HUD mode according to how much information you want on screen. A fuller display keeps navigation and status information easier to see; a reduced display may suit you if you prefer less on-screen clutter. Minimap north-lock changes the map’s orientation, so choose it based on how you prefer to navigate. Neither choice is established as a performance improvement.

Message-window transparency is a readability preference, while voice language is a presentation choice. Adjust either if it makes the game more comfortable for you. Amiibo is conditional rather than essential for a replay: if you use it, Nintendo says to enable the setting under System Menu > Options before activating the amiibo ability. See Nintendo’s amiibo instructions.

Can you start a separate replay save?

Nintendo advertises an additional save slot for a new adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The same page warns that the second saved-data file created in that edition cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch version. Do not assume this extra slot is available in the original Switch edition; the feature is specifically described for Switch 2 Edition.

Nintendo’s U.S. store lists a physical copy of the original game for Nintendo Switch on its product page. That is relevant if you do not already own the game, but a new purchase is not required to change settings.

A simple replay setup sequence

  1. Press +, use R to open System Menu, and review Controls and any Special Controls you have learned.
  2. Set camera sensitivity and inversion to familiar, comfortable values.
  3. Try motion aiming and the jump-control swap individually, keeping only changes that feel better.
  4. Choose a HUD mode and minimap orientation that give you the amount of on-screen guidance you want.
  5. Adjust message-window transparency or voice language if useful, and enable amiibo in System Menu > Options only if you use it.
  6. If you need a separate save for a new adventure, confirm which version you are playing: Nintendo documents the additional slot for Switch 2 Edition, with a transfer limitation for its second file.
