This sequence fixes the settings that most often prevent useful alerts or drain the battery before you spend time fine-tuning less important options.
Menu names and available features differ between models. The paths below use Xiaomi Smart Band 8 examples unless stated otherwise, so confirm the band name shown in Mi Fitness and open the support page for that model before changing anything.

Start with the exact band model and phone
Open Mi Fitness and check the device name before following a setting path. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 support pages document functions and menus for that model; they do not establish that every setting exists, or appears in the same place, on another band. The current Xiaomi Smart Band 10 FAQ likewise describes that model’s endurance scenarios, not a universal runtime for all Xiaomi trackers.
Also note whether your phone is an iPhone or Android device. Notification permissions, background-operation controls and Bluetooth permission screens vary by operating system and manufacturer. If a menu named in this guide is missing, do not assume the feature is broken: check the model-specific manual or FAQ first.

1. Configure notifications and permissions
Notifications are the first setting to check if you bought the tracker for messages, calls or calendar reminders. They require both an in-app switch and permission from the phone; enabling only one side produces a band that appears connected but stays silent.
Smart Band 8 setup path
- Open Mi Fitness.
- Tap Device, select the Smart Band 8, then open App notifications.
- Turn on notifications and select the apps whose alerts should reach the band.
- When the phone asks for notification access, allow Mi Fitness to read and relay notifications.
- Keep Bluetooth connected and allow Mi Fitness to operate in the background. Phone-specific battery-management screens may call this unrestricted, allowed in background or a similar name.
The exact app list and permission labels depend on the phone. Xiaomi’s troubleshooting guide for Smart Band 8 is the authority for that model’s notification behavior: Why can’t the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 receive APP notifications?
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If alerts still do not arrive
- Check that the band is connected in Mi Fitness rather than merely paired in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Turn off or reschedule Do Not Disturb and sleep mode while testing; either can suppress alerts.
- Look for a Notify only when worn option. If it is enabled, the band may intentionally remain quiet when it cannot detect wrist contact.
- Review the phone’s notification permission for each app and make sure the app itself is not muted.
- On iPhone, verify system notification sharing for the Bluetooth-connected band in iOS notification and Bluetooth settings. Apple’s labels can change between iOS releases.
- Reopen Mi Fitness after changing background permissions, then send a test message while the band is on your wrist.
Choose alerts selectively. Forwarding every app creates interruptions and uses more power; forwarding only calls, messages and high-priority work apps is usually easier to live with.
2. Choose automatic heart-rate monitoring
On Smart Band 8, automatic heart-rate monitoring offers 1-minute, 10-minute and 30-minute intervals, plus smart monitoring, which adjusts measurement frequency according to activity. Xiaomi states that more frequent monitoring affects battery life. These are wellness measurements, not a diagnosis or a substitute for medical equipment.

| Smart Band 8 option | What it does | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Every 1 minute | Collects the most frequent automatic readings. | Readers who value high-detail trends and accept frequent charging. | Highest expected monitoring burden. |
| Every 10 minutes | Balances interval detail and energy use. | General daily tracking when one-minute sampling is unnecessary. | Less detail between readings than one-minute monitoring. |
| Every 30 minutes | Uses a lower sampling frequency. | Readers prioritizing endurance and broad trends. | Short-lived changes between samples may not be recorded. |
| Smart monitoring | Adjusts measurement frequency to activity. | People who want the tracker to vary sampling automatically. | Actual frequency and battery effect depend on activity and other enabled features. |
Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 FAQ warns: “After the enabling automatic monitoring, the heart rate will be monitored throughout the day, significantly reducing the battery life of the band.” Treat that as a configuration trade-off, not a reason to disable monitoring categorically. Start with smart or 10-minute monitoring, then move to one-minute sampling only if the additional detail matters to you.
3. Decide which all-day health features earn their battery cost
Advanced metrics can be useful, but each continuously running sensor or analysis adds work. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 10 endurance FAQ identifies advanced sleep monitoring, breathing-rate tracking, all-day stress monitoring, blood-oxygen tracking and continuous heart-rate monitoring among the features that affect endurance. Feature availability varies by model and region, so look for the corresponding controls in your device’s health or battery settings rather than copying a Smart Band 10 menu onto another band.

- You actively review sleep, stress, blood-oxygen or breathing trends and accept charging more often.
- You need high-frequency data for a defined personal tracking goal.
- You have tested the battery with your own routine and the charging interval is acceptable.
Reduce or disable them when
- You rarely open the metric and mainly want notifications, time and workout records.
- The band is failing to last through the period you need it, such as a multi-day trip or overnight sleep tracking.
- You want to isolate which feature is causing a sudden increase in battery use.
Change one group of features at a time and observe a normal day or two. That makes the cause of a runtime change easier to identify than switching every health option simultaneously.
4. Set sleep mode and Do Not Disturb around your routine
Schedule DND for meetings, commuting or sleep if you want fewer interruptions. Review whether DND blocks all notifications or only vibration and whether it is synchronized with sleep mode. A band that is silent only at certain hours is often following a schedule rather than losing its connection.
Sleep settings should reflect your actual bedtime and wake time. If you wear the tracker overnight, make sure the strap is secure enough for sensor contact but not tight enough to cause pressure or skin irritation. Do not enable advanced sleep or breathing analysis solely because it exists; use it when the resulting information is worth its energy cost.

Enjoy incredibly smooth and seamless interaction with crisp, color-accurate images, right on your wrist.
5. Tune the display, wake behavior and battery controls
Screen brightness, raise-to-wake sensitivity, screen timeout and always-on display (AOD) affect convenience and endurance. Make changes based on when you look at the band: a lower brightness and shorter wake window can help if the screen activates accidentally, while a brighter display may be justified outdoors.
AOD is a particularly visible choice. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 10 FAQ quotes different endurance scenarios:
| Xiaomi scenario | Quoted endurance | Conditions stated by Xiaomi |
|---|---|---|
| Typical endurance | 21 days | Smart Band 10; Xiaomi, 2026, with a static display, selected advanced sleep/breathing/stress/blood-oxygen functions disabled, heart-rate monitoring every 30 minutes, and defined notification and workout use. |
| AOD endurance | 9 days | Smart Band 10; Xiaomi, 2026, with Smart AOD and the listed lower-monitoring conditions. |
| Heavy-load endurance | 8 days | Smart Band 10; Xiaomi, 2026, with advanced sleep and breathing enabled, all-day stress and blood-oxygen tracking enabled, and heart-rate monitoring once per minute. |
These are Xiaomi scenario claims accessed October 13, 2026, not independent tests or guarantees for your band. Xiaomi says actual endurance varies with settings, operations and environment. The figures therefore help you compare the direction of a setting change, not predict an exact number of days.
If your battery drops quickly, first check AOD, one-minute heart-rate monitoring, all-day stress, blood-oxygen tracking, advanced sleep analysis, screen wake behavior and frequent workouts. Disable only the options you do not need; turning off every health feature is not the only solution.
6. Wear the band correctly for better readings
Position the tracker so the sensor contacts skin continuously without pinching. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 FAQ says: “Wear the band correctly, neither too tight nor too loose, while giving the skin space for breath ability.” A loose strap, light entering under the sensor, vigorous arm movement or a band that slides during exercise can affect heart-rate signal readings.

- For workouts, check the fit before starting and clean sweat or debris from the sensor and skin.
- Interpret an isolated odd reading cautiously; look for a repeated pattern and verify concerning results with appropriate medical advice.
7. Sync regularly and understand local storage
Smart Band 8 can retain about 100 hours of exercise records and up to seven days of vitality and health data, according to Xiaomi’s FAQ. That is temporary device storage, not a long-term backup. Open Mi Fitness regularly while the band is connected so records transfer to the phone and any enabled cloud service.
Xiaomi documents optional Mi Fitness cloud synchronization. Review the account and sync controls if you need records on more than one phone, but enable cloud storage only if its convenience matches your data-sharing preference. If a sync fails, keep the phone and band close, confirm Bluetooth and Mi Fitness permissions, open the app, and allow the transfer to complete before unpairing or resetting the band.

Health and activity data can be sensitive. Xiaomi’s June 2021 IoT Privacy White Paper states, “Mi Smart Band only collects the data which is required to perform its functions.” That document is dated June 2021 and describes Xiaomi’s policy framework at that time; it is not a current, model-by-model privacy audit.
Use the current Mi Fitness privacy, account and cloud-sync controls to decide whether data should remain primarily on the phone or be synchronized to Xiaomi services. Check those controls again after a major app or firmware update, because labels and available choices can change.

A practical first-day checklist
- Identify the model in Mi Fitness and open its official support page.
- Pair the band, update firmware if offered, and confirm Bluetooth connection.
- Enable only the app notifications you genuinely need; grant phone notification and background permissions.
- Set DND and sleep schedules, then send a test notification during an allowed period.
- Choose a heart-rate interval: smart or 10 minutes for a balanced start, 30 minutes for endurance, or 1 minute when detail justifies the drain.
- Review advanced sleep, breathing, stress and blood-oxygen controls and leave off anything you will not use.
- Set brightness, raise-to-wake, timeout and AOD for your environment.
- Fit the band securely against clean skin and check that it does not slide during movement.
- Run a manual sync in Mi Fitness and enable cloud sync only if you want that backup or multi-device access.
- After one or two ordinary days, inspect battery use and adjust one setting at a time.
What to change first when something goes wrong
No app notifications
Start with Mi Fitness > Device > App notifications, then verify phone notification access, background operation, Bluetooth connection, DND, sleep mode and any “Notify only when worn” setting. iPhone users should check system notification sharing.

Battery drains faster than expected
Check AOD and screen wake behavior, then review one-minute heart-rate monitoring and continuous sleep, stress, blood-oxygen or breathing features. Compare your configuration with Xiaomi’s Smart Band 10 scenarios only as conditional examples; do not treat 21, 9 or 8 days as a promise for another model.
Heart-rate readings look inconsistent
Correct the fit first. The sensor must contact skin without being too tight or loose, and movement or light leakage can interfere. Repeat the measurement at rest and during a comparable activity before drawing conclusions.
Data is missing after exercise
Sync before resetting or unpairing. Smart Band 8’s stated capacity is about 100 hours of exercise records and up to seven days of health/vitality data, so leaving the band disconnected for longer can exceed its local retention window.

There is no single best Xiaomi configuration. Notifications and permissions determine whether the band performs its most visible job; monitoring and health features determine how much data it collects and how often it needs charging; DND and display settings shape daily comfort; fit and syncing determine whether the recorded information is usable. Set those layers in that order, then adjust for your priorities rather than copying another model’s menu or battery claim.
