For a portable speaker that can stream over Wi-Fi at home and play over Bluetooth away from your network, start with the JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi for large outdoor gatherings or the Sonos Roam 2 for a genuinely compact option. Both are rated IP67, but they are very different to carry: JBL lists its speaker at 15 lb, while Sonos lists the Roam 2 at 0.95 lb. The other picks include useful outdoor and smart-speaker features, but the Sonos Move 2 (IP56) and Bose Portable Home Speaker (IPX4) offer less water protection.

Top waterproof Wi-Fi speakers at a glance

This is a use-case shortlist based on manufacturer specifications and 2026 buying-guide coverage, not a uniform listening test. “Waterproof” is not a single level of protection: check each speaker’s IP rating and intended use before bringing it near water.

JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi IP67, per JBL [JBL product listing] Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; JBL lists AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Chromecast built-in, and Spotify Connect [JBL product listing] Big outdoor gatherings; powerful portable format, but substantial at 15 lb on JBL’s US listing.
Sonos Roam 2 IP67, per Sonos [Sonos fact sheet] Wi-Fi and Bluetooth [Sonos fact sheet] Compact carry and Wi-Fi streaming; a small-speaker form factor.
Sonos Play IP67, according to 2026 editorial sources [What Hi-Fi?; TechRadar] Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, according to TechRadar [TechRadar] A newer Sonos ecosystem candidate; confirm current product details with Sonos before relying on precise specifications, availability, or price.
Sonos Move 2 IP56, per Sonos [Sonos product guide] Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; Sonos also documents stereo pairing and whole-home grouping [Sonos product guide] A larger speaker for a patio or garden and Sonos system; less suited to carrying far and not an IP67 model.
Bose Portable Home Speaker IPX4, per Bose [Bose launch announcement] Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; the launch announcement also lists AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect [Bose launch announcement] Consider if its smart-speaker features suit your setup and only light splash exposure is expected; the evidence is launch-era and dates to 2019.

Which speaker suits your use?

JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi: for bigger outdoor gatherings

JBL’s listing combines built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with IP67 protection, a built-in powerbank, and a manufacturer-claimed playback time of up to 24 hours. JBL qualifies battery life by volume and audio content, so treat that figure as a maximum claim rather than guaranteed runtime. At 15 lb (6.70 kg) on JBL’s US listing accessed in 2026, it is better suited to moving between a home and a gathering than to effortless everyday carry. Wi-Fi streaming options listed by JBL include AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Chromecast built-in, and Spotify Connect. [JBL product listing]

Sonos Roam 2: for a compact Wi-Fi speaker

Sonos lists the Roam 2 at 6.61 × 2.44 × 2.36 inches and 0.95 lb (0.43 kg) in its 2024 fact sheet. It supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and carries an IP67 rating, making it the clearest small-format contrast to the much heavier JBL. Sonos calls it fully waterproof, but follow its care instructions rather than treating a water rating as an invitation to routinely submerge the speaker. [Sonos fact sheet]

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Sonos Play: a newer candidate to verify

What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide describes the Sonos Play as Wi-Fi-ready and IP67; TechRadar’s 2026 guide describes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, IP67, and a greater weight than the Roam 2. Those are editorial-source descriptions, not a retrieved official Sonos specification. Check Sonos for confirmed specifications, current availability, and pricing before choosing it on the basis of a detailed feature claim. [What Hi-Fi?; TechRadar]

Sonos Move 2: for a patio or garden setup

Sonos documents Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, stereo pairing, and grouping with other Sonos speakers for the Move 2. Its IP56 rating is distinct from IP67: Sonos discusses spills, splashes, rain, dirt, and dust, but does not describe the speaker as submersible. What Hi-Fi? characterizes it as a larger, semi-portable model better suited to moving around a garden than carrying farther afield. [Sonos product guide; What Hi-Fi?]

Bose Portable Home Speaker: for light splash exposure

Bose’s 2019 launch announcement lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and built-in Google Assistant and Alexa at launch. It gives the speaker an IPX4 rating for spills, splashes, and rain—not immersion. Because the connectivity details come from a 2019 announcement, check current assistant support, service compatibility, price, and stock before buying. [Bose launch announcement]

What IP67, IP56, and IPX4 mean for these speakers

IP stands for Ingress Protection. In an IP code, the first digit rates protection against solids such as dust, while the second rates protection against water. An “X” means that digit is not rated in the code; it does not mean the product has been tested and failed that rating.

  • IP67: In What Hi-Fi?’s explanation, this rating indicates dustproof protection and protection against immersion to one meter for up to 30 minutes. JBL’s support page states those same conditions for IP67 and specifically includes the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi. Sonos also lists IP67 for the Roam 2; the Sonos Play rating in this shortlist comes from 2026 editorial sources. These conditions describe protection tests, not a recommendation to use a speaker underwater. [JBL Support; What Hi-Fi?; Sonos fact sheet]
  • IP56: The Move 2’s rating is for a different protection class than IP67. Sonos discusses outdoor exposure such as splashes and rain; do not treat the rating as permission to submerge it. [Sonos product guide]
  • IPX4: Bose specifies protection against spills, splashes, and rain. The “X” means the code does not provide a dust-protection rating. IPX4 is not an immersion rating. [Bose launch announcement; What Hi-Fi?]

For any of these ratings, follow the manufacturer’s care and use instructions. A rating describes defined protection conditions; it does not guarantee that every exposure, liquid, or use pattern is safe.

How to choose a waterproof Wi-Fi speaker

  1. Decide where it will play. For home streaming or multi-room use, check that the speaker supports the Wi-Fi services and ecosystem you use. When it leaves the home network, Bluetooth can provide a practical fallback; confirm the desired connection method on the product’s current support page.
  2. Set a realistic water threshold. For the strongest water-protection class in this shortlist, consider an IP67 model. Choose IP56 or IPX4 only if its documented protection matches your likely exposure; neither should be treated as IP67 immersion protection.
  3. Check the carry trade-off. The Roam 2 is listed at 0.95 lb and the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi at 15 lb. A higher water rating does not tell you whether a speaker is convenient to transport.
  4. Match the sound system and services. Compare supported streaming services, Bluetooth use, smart-assistant availability, and compatibility with speakers you already own. Features can vary by region and change over time, so verify current support with the manufacturer.
  5. Verify current buying details. Pricing, stock, and service support were not established for this shortlist. Check the manufacturer or retailer listing for your region, especially for the older Bose model and the Sonos Play’s detailed specifications.
