If your phone offers multiple portrait focal lengths, choose the framing that suits the scene. Leave Beauty and Posture effects off unless you specifically want them, and use Pro controls only when you need manual exposure or color adjustments.
Menus and features are not universal across Vivo phones. Vivo manuals warn that availability can vary by device, carrier, and country or region, so a missing control may be a model or software limitation rather than a fault. The exact labels below should be treated as a guide; consult the manual for your model when an option is absent.

Start with Portrait mode, not the default Photo mode
Open the Camera app and select Portrait from the mode selector. Vivo describes this mode as one that applies Bokeh, beauty, and other effects to portraits. The important change is not simply turning Portrait on: it is deciding how much blur and processing you actually want.
Before shooting, check the preview for three controls when your model provides them:

- A bokeh or blur control for the background effect.
- A focal-length or framing selector.
- Beauty or Posture options.
Some Vivo phones show all three, while others show only some of them. The PD2405F user manual specifically says that Portrait features can vary by device, carrier, and region. Do not assume that a menu shown on a V40 or V40 Pro will appear on another Vivo model.
Adjust the bokeh degree instead of accepting the default
Portrait mode’s most consequential setting is the amount of simulated background blur. Vivo’s manual describes opening Portrait, tapping the bokeh control, moving its degree slider, and then taking the picture. It also describes turning the effect off.
How to change it
- Open Camera and choose Portrait.
- Tap the on-screen Bokeh or blur icon. The icon and its position can differ by model.
- Drag the degree slider until the background looks believable at the edges of hair, clothing, and objects.
- Take the photo, or disable the effect if you want the background rendered without portrait blur.
Choosing a convincing amount
There is no universally correct slider value in Vivo’s documentation. Use a restrained setting when a strong cutout makes hair, glasses, or shoulders look artificially separated from the background. A lower degree also preserves more context when the location matters to the portrait. Increase the degree only when the background is distracting and the subject still has clean edges in the preview.
Turning bokeh off is a legitimate choice, not a failure of Portrait mode. It is useful when you prefer an unblurred background or when the software mask looks less natural than the original scene. Make the decision while viewing the actual subject and background rather than relying on a fixed number that may behave differently on another model.
Choose a portrait focal length that matches the composition
Some Vivo models provide several portrait framing choices. A wider option can include more of the surroundings; a longer option can produce a tighter view of the person. The names and available choices are model-specific, so use the labels your phone actually presents.

| Model | Portrait focal-length choices documented by Vivo | Vivo’s scene labels |

These are Vivo’s model descriptions, not a promise that every phone has those focal lengths or that one setting is optically superior in every situation. They are best used as composition choices:

When to use the wider choices
Select the available wider option when the environment is part of the story: a travel location, a street scene, or a landscape around the subject. On the V40 and V40 Pro, Vivo calls 24 mm a landscape portrait and 35 mm a street portrait. Keep enough distance to frame the person comfortably, and check the preview for unwanted stretching near the edges.
When to use the middle choice
The 50 mm option is labeled classic portrait on both documented models. It is a practical starting point for a conventional head-and-shoulders or upper-body composition when you want less surrounding space than the wider settings provide.
When to use the longer choices
If your model offers them, 85 mm and 100 mm create tighter framing options. Vivo labels these figure portrait and close-up portrait, respectively, on the V40 Pro. Choose them when the face or figure should dominate the frame and the background should play a smaller visual role. Do not infer that a phone without these menu items can add them through a setting; focal-length availability is tied to the model and software.
Keep Beauty and Posture effects optional
Vivo’s manual lists Beauty and Posture as Portrait selections, but it also warns that their availability varies. They are creative aids, not required steps for a good portrait.
Beauty
Enable Beauty only when you want the phone’s facial-enhancement treatment. For a natural-looking record of a person, leave it off or use the least noticeable option your model provides. Because the manual does not define a universal strength or appearance, judge the result from the preview and review the captured image at full size.

Posture
Posture tools can be useful when you want guidance on how the subject stands or poses. They are still optional: a portrait does not need a posture overlay or correction to be successful. If the control is missing, the phone may not support it in your region or edition.
Why these effects should not be treated as defaults
Beauty and Posture change the look or guidance of the image, whereas bokeh changes background rendering. Keeping them separate lets you adjust the portrait’s depth effect without automatically applying facial processing. Decide deliberately for each subject and assignment rather than assuming that every Portrait preset should be enabled.
Use Pro mode when you need manual exposure or color control
Portrait mode is the simplest route, but a Vivo guide describes additional controls in Pro mode. The available controls differ by model, so treat Pro as an optional fallback for photographers who are comfortable making manual adjustments.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Control | What it changes | Portrait situation in which it can help |
|---|---|---|
| EV | Exposure compensation | Adjusts the overall brightness when the face looks too dark or too bright in the current lighting. |
| ISO | Sensor sensitivity | Can help maintain exposure in dim conditions, with the trade-off that higher sensitivity may affect image cleanliness. |
| Shutter speed | How long the sensor is exposed | A faster setting can help with a moving subject; a slower setting admits more light but demands steadier subject and phone. |
| White balance | Color interpretation of the light | Corrects a portrait that appears too warm or too cool under the scene’s lighting. |
A cautious Pro-mode workflow
- Open the Camera mode selector and choose Pro if your phone exposes that mode.
- Set white balance first if the preview has an obvious color cast.
- Use EV for a small brightness correction rather than changing several controls at once.
- If the subject is moving, choose a faster shutter speed and then compensate for any resulting loss of brightness with the other available controls.
- Change ISO only as needed to maintain exposure in the available light.
- Review the face and skin tones in the preview before capturing the final frame.
These controls are not mandatory for portraits. If your Vivo does not show one of them, do not assume the setting is hidden under another name; the guide explicitly cautions that some Pro options may not be available on specific models.
A practical decision sequence for common portrait situations
Environmental or travel portrait
Choose the widest portrait framing available when the location matters, such as the 24 mm landscape-portrait option documented for the V40 and V40 Pro. Start with moderate bokeh so the surroundings remain recognizable. Turn Beauty and Posture off unless the intended style calls for them.
Street portrait
On a model with the documented menu, 35 mm is labeled street portrait. Use it when you want some context without giving the background as much prominence as the widest choice. Adjust bokeh after checking whether signs, architecture, or passing activity should remain legible.

Classic head-and-shoulders portrait
Try the 50 mm option when available. Set bokeh conservatively first, then raise it only if the background competes with the face. A restrained effect is easier to evaluate around hair and glasses than an extreme blur.

On the V40 Pro, Vivo labels 85 mm as figure portrait and 100 mm as close-up portrait. Select the tighter choice when the subject should fill more of the frame. Check the preview at the edges of the face and clothing before committing to a strong blur degree.

The bokeh icon is not present
Confirm that the camera is in Portrait rather than Photo mode. If Portrait is active and no bokeh control appears, your model, carrier software, region, or firmware may not support adjustable blur. Vivo’s manual does not promise the control on every device. Check the manual for the exact model instead of installing an unrelated camera app or assuming a hidden gesture exists.
The focal-length selector is absent
Focal-length menus are documented for specific products, not the entire Vivo range. Use the framing option your phone provides. The V40 and V40 Pro pages should not be read as a specification for another series.
The blur looks like an artificial cutout
Return to the bokeh control and reduce the degree. If the edges still look distracting, turn the effect off and capture the portrait without simulated blur. Vivo’s documentation supports both adjustment and disabling; it does not identify a single objectively best value.
The face is too bright or too dark
If Pro mode is available, use EV for a controlled exposure adjustment. If EV is not offered, remain in Portrait and change the lighting or composition rather than expecting a model-specific manual control to appear.

The portrait has a color cast
When Pro mode exposes white balance, adjust it to address the scene’s warm or cool light. The control may not exist on your model, and the guide does not establish identical labels or ranges across devices.
The subject is moving
If your phone provides shutter speed in Pro mode, a faster setting can reduce motion blur. Because a faster shutter admits less light, review brightness and use the other available exposure controls as needed. If Pro mode is unavailable, stay with Portrait and prioritize a steadier moment.
How to compare Vivo models without overclaiming
The documented V40 and V40 Pro menus show a clear difference in portrait focal-length choices: the V40 lists 24, 35, and 50 mm, while the V40 Pro page also lists 85 and 100 mm. The manuals and product pages also establish that Bokeh, Beauty, Posture, and Pro controls can vary by device and region.

They support a comparison of available controls and labels, but they do not establish that one model produces better portrait image quality, more accurate subject separation, or more flattering skin tones. Verify the exact menu on the phone and software version you plan to use.
Recommended order of changes
Change one variable at a time so you can see what actually improves the portrait. Begin with Portrait mode, choose the available framing, set bokeh to a believable level, and decide whether Beauty or Posture belongs in the final look. Only then move to Pro mode for EV, ISO, shutter speed, or white balance when the automatic portrait result does not meet the lighting or motion requirements.
This order keeps the most useful controls accessible while respecting Vivo’s model differences. It also prevents a missing regional feature or an unavailable Pro option from being mistaken for a camera problem.
