Choose by measuring the gap beneath your furniture and matching it to the vacuum’s actual cleaning configuration. A low-profile vacuum can slide underneath; a bendable wand or angled adapter can help reach farther without moving furniture; and a crevice tool is better suited to narrow gaps. These designs solve different access problems, and manufacturer reach claims do not establish which vacuum picks up more dirt under furniture.
Measure the space before choosing a vacuum
Measure the vertical clearance from the floor to the lowest obstruction, including any frame or support the vacuum must pass. Then check the dimensions and cleaning configuration of the exact model: a low body, floor head, and attachments can affect whether it fits. Allow enough room to move the vacuum rather than choosing one that only just clears the opening.

For a vacuum with a bending wand or angled adapter, clearance is only part of the question. Check how the wand or adapter changes the approach angle and whether the head can reach the area you want to clean. Product names, packages, and attachments can vary by region, so confirm the local model and what is included.
Three ways vacuums reach under furniture

Low-profile option: Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones
Dyson says the PencilVac Fluffycones lies flat at 3.7 inches to reach beneath low furniture. That is a manufacturer-stated height, not an independent fit test; measure your furniture and check the model’s cleaning configuration before buying. Dyson specifies that the PencilVac is engineered for hard floors only, so its low profile does not make it a suitable all-surface choice for carpeted rooms.

These are manufacturer specifications; runtime figures should not be treated as directly comparable with other models unless test conditions and tools match. SharkNinja describes the Flexology wand on its PowerDetect Speed Luxe Collection Clean & Empty as bending to reach beneath furniture and into low spaces. SharkNinja states up to 60 minutes of runtime, measured at the hand in Eco mode with a non-motorised tool. That figure is not a promise of runtime with a powered floor head, and it should not be compared directly with another brand’s figure without matching test conditions.

Adapter and crevice-tool options for a vacuum you already own
If your current vacuum otherwise suits your home, a compatible low-reach adapter may be a more practical option than replacing the whole cleaner. Dyson’s UK V15 Detect Absolute package lists a low-reach adapter that adjusts the wand angle by up to 90 degrees. That package detail does not establish that the adapter is included with every V15 Detect or other Dyson model.

What to prioritize for your home
- Very low clearance: Look first at the height of a low-profile cleaner in its working position; a published height is a screening figure, not a guarantee that it will pass your furniture.
- Carpet as well as hard floors: Verify that the manufacturer supports your floor surfaces. Dyson specifies the PencilVac for hard floors only.
- Furniture you cannot move easily: A bending wand or a compatible angle adapter can help with access and posture, but check the head’s reach and how the tool is configured.
- Thin, confined gaps: A long, narrow crevice tool is designed for spaces between or behind objects; confirm that it is compatible with your vacuum.
- One vacuum for the whole home: Consider floor type, included tools, and runtime in the mode and configuration you will actually use, not just a headline maximum.
What the reach claims do—and do not—tell you
Manufacturer specifications can help screen for fit and identify a wand or accessory designed for low spaces. They do not show that one model cleans beneath furniture better than another. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide reports hands-on observations that the Ultenic U16 Flex’s bendable bar helped it reach beneath tables and chairs, and that Shark’s PowerDetect flexible wand was useful under sofas and beds in its testing. Those observations are not a controlled comparison of all models. TechRadar’s 2026 guide notes that bend-forward wands recur in Shark models and that frequent releases can make model comparisons difficult.
