The short answer: which edition fits your situation?
The right purchase depends on whether you are new to the series, already own the original game, and which storefront you use. The Complete Edition is the simplest choice for a new buyer who wants all three campaigns and the modernized version. Existing Steam owners should first open the edition page while signed in and check whether the announced loyalty offer still appears on their account. Buyers on other storefronts must inspect that platform’s own entitlements rather than assuming Steam’s legacy-game rules apply.

What the Complete Edition contains
The main SHOGUN 2 campaign
The package includes the core SHOGUN 2 campaign, the real-time strategy game set during Japan’s Sengoku period. Rise of the Samurai
Rise of the Samurai is a separate campaign included in the Complete Edition. It moves the setting earlier in Japanese history, so it is not merely an extra map or a collection of battles inside the main campaign. SEGA lists it as one of three standalone campaigns in the package.
Fall of the Samurai
Fall of the Samurai is also included. Its later historical setting gives the campaign a different strategic context from the medieval-era main game and Rise of the Samurai. If your main purchase question is “Does it include Fall of the Samurai?”, the answer is yes for the Complete Edition described by SEGA.
More than 700 years of history
SEGA describes the three campaigns together as covering more than 700 years. That is a publisher statement about the historical span of the package, not an independently measured gameplay-hours figure. It does not mean that every year is represented as a playable turn or that the campaigns form one continuous save; they are separate scenarios.

Original game and associated DLC on Steam
SEGA’s announcement says Steam buyers receive the original SHOGUN 2 and its accompanying downloadable content as part of the purchase. SEGA Support describes the package as “An updated and improved Total War: SHOGUN 2 and all of the associated DLC, including both Rise and Fall of the Samurai”. That wording is the basis for treating the Complete Edition as an all-in-one Steam package rather than only a graphical upgrade.
The Blood Pack exception
The Steam package does not include the Blood Pack. SEGA Support identifies the exclusion as a consequence of age-rating requirements. Therefore, “all DLC” in the Steam description should be read as all associated content except Blood Pack, not as an unconditional promise that every historical add-on is present.
Updated features in the new edition
The edition is not defined only by its campaign list. SEGA’s feature description also identifies technical, interface and localization changes.

The 50-plus figure should be treated as a marketing claim attached to the 2026 edition. It is useful when deciding whether the update adds variety, but it should not be expanded into a precise, independently verified roster without a complete official list.

Should an existing Steam owner buy it?
What Steam ownership changes
If you already own the original game on Steam, SEGA says original-game owners receive all DLC for that original game at no extra cost. The Complete Edition FAQ also says the Steam package contains the original game and its DLC, with Blood Pack excluded. In practical terms, an existing owner should not automatically purchase a second copy of the legacy game before checking the account-specific offer and the DLC entries attached to the library.
The 75% loyalty discount
SEGA’s FAQ mentions a limited-time 75% loyalty discount for owners. “Limited-time” matters: the discount may have expired, may be restricted by region, or may appear only when the qualifying Steam account is signed in. Treat it as an offer to verify, not as a guaranteed current price. The store checkout page is the authority for your account.

When the upgrade may still make sense
The Complete Edition can be worthwhile for an owner who wants the updated 64-bit build, high-resolution interface scaling, refreshed visuals, modernized controls, integrated Mod.io support, and the additional standalone campaigns in one package. If you already own those campaigns and only want a cosmetic change, compare the displayed upgrade cost with the features you will actually use instead of assuming the full package is necessary.

Do not assume that a package on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG inherits Steam’s original-game entitlement. The reviewed publisher information establishes the Steam arrangement but does not establish identical contents on those other storefronts. A different store may sell the updated edition, the legacy game, individual campaigns or a bundle with different licensing rules.
- Open the listing while signed in to the account that will own the game.
- Read the “included” or “in this bundle” section and look specifically for the main campaign, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai.
- Check whether the original SHOGUN 2 is listed separately and whether any legacy DLC is granted automatically.
- Look for an explicit Blood Pack entry; absence of the entry is not proof that it is included.
- Confirm operating-system requirements, language options and mod support for that store’s build before paying.
Because platform entitlements differ by storefront, the package page you are about to buy is more reliable than a general description copied from another storefront.

Price and launch timing
SEGA announced a launch date of October 13, 2026, with regional release times of 16:00 BST, 08:00 PDT, 23:00 CST, and 00:00 JST on October 14. The announced prices were £34.99, €39.99 and $39.99. Those numbers were published before the stated launch time and are not verified live storefront prices. Your final amount can differ because of regional pricing, taxes, currency conversion, promotions or platform-specific catalog rules.
Use the announced figures as a reference point, not a promise. A store page may show a different currency, a launch discount, a loyalty reduction or a separate price for a legacy listing. Check the total at checkout before comparing editions.
How to choose the right listing
If you want the broadest package
Select the listing whose name and contents identify the Complete Edition and all three campaigns. Confirm that the product is the 2026 updated release rather than an older listing for the original game alone. This route minimizes the chance of buying the main campaign now and discovering later that a desired standalone campaign is separate.

Compare the cost of the main-game listing with the Complete Edition in your region. Which listing is cheaper varies by region, and a low headline price may omit the updated features or the later campaigns. Decide whether the 64-bit upgrade, visual refresh and language options matter before choosing the narrower package.
If one expansion is your priority
Search the store for the campaign by its exact name and compare its price with the complete package. Buying a standalone campaign can be sensible when you are certain you do not want the other scenarios, but the Complete Edition may be more economical during a promotion.
