What should a new buyer purchase?
Search your platform’s store for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition. Its current FAQ says you can no longer buy the base game alone on those storefronts. PS4 and Xbox One retain the previous storefront arrangement, with both expansions now free to download. What do Complete Edition, Remastered, and Next-Gen Update mean?

In short, Complete Edition describes the bundle; Remastered is the current release. “Next-Gen Update” refers to the earlier version 4.0 update, not the name of the latest release.

Do existing owners need to buy Remastered or the expansions again?
CD PROJEKT RED says the Remastered upgrade is free for existing base-game owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its announcement also says base-game owners gain Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free. Check the publisher’s current platform instructions and your account library before purchasing; the announcement names Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2 as pre-purchase platforms, but that does not establish the same upgrade eligibility for those platforms. Read the Remastered announcement.
For PS4 and Xbox One, the publisher says the earlier storefront arrangement remains, except both expansions are now free to download. The exact steps may depend on your storefront, so use the platform’s account or library page rather than assuming a new purchase is needed. Check the platform details in the FAQ.
If you already own one or both expansions
The publisher says owned expansions remain in your library while their content is patched into the base game. You can still start them separately from the main menu; saves remain compatible, cross-progression continues, and expansion achievements or trophies are unaffected, according to the FAQ. The publisher’s FAQ describes the Switch 2 release timing prospectively, and its announcement says Switch owners can claim Remastered on Switch 2 when that version releases. Do not assume it is already playable on Switch 2 merely because it appears in pre-purchase information; check the current platform listing for release status. See the announcement and the FAQ.
What did the 2022 Next-Gen Update add?
Version 4.0 was a free update for existing owners in December 2022. The publisher’s notes describe substantial visual and technical improvements, but the feature set differed by platform. These details explain the older “Next-Gen Update” label; they are not current test results for Remastered.

PC
The 2022 notes list ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion on PC, with additional ray-traced reflections and shadows on compatible hardware. They also describe ULTRA+ graphics settings and DLSS 3 support on compatible hardware. See the version 4.0 notes.
PS5 and Xbox Series X
For the 2022 build, the publisher described Ray Tracing Mode targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS, both with dynamic resolution scaling. These are historical targets, not independently measured results or specifications for the 2026 release. See the publisher’s 2022 notes.
Xbox Series S
The same notes said Xbox Series S had no ray-tracing features; Quality Mode targeted 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeted 60 FPS. The publisher cautioned that update scope varied by platform, so check current Remastered information for present-day feature details. See the version 4.0 notes.

- Identify what you already own. Check your account library for the base game and either expansion before shopping.
- Match the platform and storefront. The publisher lists free Remastered upgrades for qualifying owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S; PS4 and Xbox One have a distinct expansion arrangement. Verify current eligibility for your exact account and platform.
- If you are new, select Complete Edition. Confirm the store page is for your platform and includes both expansions.
- Check availability for Switch 2 directly. The publisher has described its release prospectively; pre-purchase information alone is not confirmation that it is playable.
- Do not infer current performance from version 4.0 figures. The 2022 frame-rate targets and technical features are historical and platform-specific.
How much game is included?
CD PROJEKT RED estimated in 2022 that the base game offers over 100 hours and the two expansions together add another 50 hours. Those are the publisher’s promotional playtime estimates; no measurement methodology was provided, so treat them as estimates rather than guaranteed or independently measured completion times.
