Sony lists Dolby Vision and HDR10 support for the BRAVIA 8 II; the BRAVIA 5 offers a different display class to consider. Neither is a universal winner: the right choice depends on your budget, room, preferred streaming services, screen size, and audio setup.
How the two Sony models differ
Sony’s product pages establish the display type and listed features below. They do not provide independent, controlled measurements that would support ranking either model as better for every room or viewer.

| Model | What Sony lists | How to use the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| BRAVIA 8 II (2025) | QD-OLED, 4K HDR, Dolby Vision and HDR10 support, IMAX Enhanced compatibility, and Acoustic Surface Audio+. Sony product details. | A premium movie-first starting point; compare the exact size, current price, room conditions, and audio needs. |
| BRAVIA 5 (2025) | Mini LED, 4K HDR, XR Backlight Master Drive, and XR Triluminos Pro. Sony product details. | An alternative display class to investigate, especially if you are weighing budget and size against the BRAVIA 8 II. |
Choose based on your room and viewing priorities
Start with the exact model and size
Sony’s U.S. lineup mixes 2026 models with 2025 and earlier televisions. Check the full model code and model year before relying on a review, listing, or sale; names can be similar across generations. Sony’s current U.S. television lineup shows the models and sizes it lists, while prices, inventory, and delivery estimates can change.
Consider your viewing environment
Compare how each candidate fits your room’s lighting and viewing arrangement, as well as the screen size you want. The cited Sony pages identify the BRAVIA 8 II as QD-OLED and the BRAVIA 5 as Mini LED, but they do not establish a universal winner for bright rooms, dark rooms, or every seating position. Use the display categories as a starting point, then look for independent measurements of the exact size and model if brightness or reflections are decisive for you.

Check the HDR format and streaming chain
A TV’s listed format support does not guarantee that every movie will play in that format. Sony Support says the app or service must support Dolby Vision; compatibility also depends on the TV model, input, and connected device. If you stream through an HDMI device, check its software and settings as well. See Sony’s HDR format compatibility guidance.
Decide whether built-in sound is enough
Sony lists Acoustic Surface Audio+ on the BRAVIA 8 II. If you plan to add a soundbar or other home-theater equipment, verify compatibility with the exact TV model and the audio features you intend to use. Sony lists compatible home-theater products for the BRAVIA 5, but that does not establish compatibility for every Sony soundbar or feature.

Check offers before buying
Sony promotes Sony Pictures Core benefits with BRAVIA TVs, but movie credits or included streaming periods depend on model eligibility, registration, and the applicable terms. Check the current offer on the exact model rather than treating a promotion as a standard feature. Sony’s television listings and the individual BRAVIA 8 II and BRAVIA 5 pages are the places to confirm current availability and terms.
