In CoinDesk’s Oct. 6, 2026 market report, Bitway’s BTW led the smaller-token gains, while Filecoin (FIL), LayerZero (ZRO) and Midnight (NIGHT) also rose. Bitcoin was reported near $85,900 after trading near $85,000 earlier that day. These are timestamped figures from the report, not current prices.

Which smaller altcoins rose?

CoinDesk’s Oct. 6 report described selective gains rather than a market-wide altcoin rally. It reported the following short-term moves:

Token Reported change Context
Bitway (BTW) Up 25% in 24 hours; up 170% over 30 days Largest gain among the smaller tokens highlighted in the report.
Filecoin (FIL) Up 12% in 24 hours; up at least 50% over four weeks Among the reported daily gainers.
LayerZero (ZRO) Up 10% in 24 hours; up at least 50% over four weeks Among the reported daily gainers.
Midnight (NIGHT) Up 8% in 24 hours Four-week change not stated in the report.

All changes in the table are figures CoinDesk reported on Oct. 6, 2026; they describe the report’s market window and are not independently verified here. The report also named SKY, VVV and DASH among the weakest performers within the 100 largest tokens by market value. That mix of winners and laggards is why a handful of advances should not be read as proof of a broad “altcoin season.”

What was happening with bitcoin and derivatives?

CoinDesk put bitcoin at about $85,900 when the report was written, after lows near $85,000 earlier that day. Its derivatives snapshot showed open interest of approximately $21.9 billion, down from $22.0 billion previously. Funding rates were broadly 0–5% annualized across venues, compared with a prior 4–10% range; the three-month annualized basis was 5–6%.

Options activity leaned toward calls in the reported 24-hour window: the put/call volume ratio was 62/38. The one-week 25-delta skew was approximately -2%. These are market indicators from the report, not a guarantee of future direction.

CoinDesk, citing CoinGlass, reported $163 million in liquidations over 24 hours and a 63/27 split between longs and shorts. It did not account for the remaining share of that split, so those percentages should not be treated as a complete breakdown. Reported liquidation notional included $51 million in bitcoin, $21 million in other assets and $19 million in ether.

Did Binance Wallet’s campaign drive BTW’s rise?

CoinDesk said Binance Wallet’s “Booster Season 5” campaign ended Oct. 2 and offered rewards for deposits. The report suggested the campaign may have increased retail engagement around BTW, but did not establish that the campaign caused the token’s gains.

What downside levels did the analyst identify?

Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at TheFxPro, framed the levels as conditional signals: “A break below $84K would signal a victory for the bears, and a break below the recent local lows at $83K would confirm this with even greater certainty.” He said that if those levels gave way, selling pressure could increase and $80,000 could be a possible destination. This was his analysis, not a prediction with a guaranteed outcome.

How to interpret the figures

The percentages and prices above are a snapshot from CoinDesk’s Oct. 6, 2026 report. Short-window crypto prices can change quickly, and the report’s page may show live price widgets that differ from its timestamped article text. The figures do not establish whether the rallies persisted, nor do they by themselves show a token’s liquidity, supply, fundamentals or suitability as an investment.
