There is no source-backed universal winner. The practical decision is to match your device, desired type of game and preferred format. The franchise began in 1999, and Konami says the SILENT HILL 2 remake launched in October 2024; those dates provide context, not a quality ranking.

Xbox’s official listing identifies a concrete presentation change: the original’s fixed-camera viewpoints are replaced by an over-the-shoulder perspective. A retailer may list a different bundle from the publisher’s announcement, and a promotional bonus may have an expiration date. Read the current product description for your country before paying for a Deluxe or special version.
Silent Hill: Townfall: verify the recent listing
Steam’s franchise listing shows Silent Hill: Townfall with a September 23, 2026 release date. Because that date is recent and the information comes from a storefront snapshot, verify the live store page before describing the game as purchasable in your country. Confirm that the page is for the finished product, that your operating system is supported and that the purchase button is active in your region.

Do not assume that an Xbox One version exists. The cited information names Series X|S, not Xbox One, and a Series listing should be treated as a current-generation requirement unless the live store states otherwise. If you have a Series S, also check whether the listing is digital-only for your hardware and whether a physical disc would be unusable.
PC
PC buyers need to distinguish the storefront from the game itself. SILENT HILL 2 Remake is identified on PC storefronts by Konami. SILENT HILL f is identified for Steam, Epic Games and Microsoft Windows. Before checkout, confirm the store account you intend to use, the operating-system requirement, available storage and any regional restrictions shown on that store’s page.

You want the 2001 story in a modern release
Buy SILENT HILL 2 Remake on the platform you own. It is the only one of the two main choices explicitly identified as a full remake of the 2001 game. Remember that the camera system differs from the original, so “remake” does not mean an unchanged presentation.
You want a completely new chapter
Choose SILENT HILL f. Konami positions it as a new chapter, and it is the release with the clearest announced choice between physical and digital Standard Editions plus a digital Deluxe option.
You require a disc

- Choose the type of experience. Select SILENT HILL 2 Remake for the rebuilt 2001 entry or SILENT HILL f for a new chapter. Treat Townfall separately until its live listing confirms your region and platform.
