Not every Galaxy phone has a working FM radio, and Samsung publishes no complete, current list of the ones that do. What Samsung does publish is a set of example model numbers with FM receiver hardware, plus the conditions that make FM work. Those are covered below, along with a way to check the exact phone you own or plan to buy.
Samsung’s own answer: hardware decides, not the Galaxy name
Samsung’s Developer FAQ for the Galaxy FM Radio SDK asks whether all Samsung smartphones support it. The answer: “No. The device must have FM radio hardware and must be running Android 10 (Android Q) or later.” So the family name (Galaxy S, A, Z and so on) does not tell you whether a phone has an FM tuner. The exact model does.

Model numbers Samsung names as having FM radio hardware
Samsung’s Galaxy FM Radio SDK overview and FAQ list these models as examples. The overview says supported models “include” them “and so on”, so this is an illustration. It is not a full catalogue and not a list of phones currently on sale.

Two cautions apply. First, the list says nothing about other regional or carrier variants of the same phone. A code ending in a different letter is a different SKU, so do not assume it has the same radio. Second, the list does not say which of these phones are still sold, or whether each one ships with a usable radio app.
What the SDK requirement does and doesn’t tell you
- The Android 10 or later requirement belongs to the SDK. It is for developers, who must become approved Samsung partners to get it.
- Samsung does not claim that every phone meeting the requirement has a preinstalled radio app. Hardware support and a consumer-facing app are separate questions.
- An older phone on the list may be the only evidence you have that a tuner exists. Check its current software and available apps as well.
How to check a specific phone
- Find the exact model code. On the phone, go to Settings > About phone and read the model number. On a phone you are buying, use the listing or box label, including the suffix letter.
- Match it against Samsung’s examples above. A match is a good sign. A missing code proves nothing, because the list is non-exhaustive.
- Look for a radio app. Samsung Electronics Service says menus and features vary by model, software and app version.
- Ask Samsung or the carrier. For a purchase, get written confirmation of FM support for that exact SKU in your country.
Earphones: the antenna requirement
Samsung’s FAQ states: “The earphone device functions as a radio antenna.” The practical consequences:

- Phones with a headphone jack can use model-compatible wired earphones.
- Phones without a jack may use USB-C earphones. Samsung Electronics Service recommends Samsung genuine USB-C earphones. It warns that another manufacturer’s USB-C earphones might not support radio use, so check with that manufacturer.
- You can route audio to the phone speaker while the earphones stay connected, since they are still the antenna.
- Earphones cannot add FM to a phone that has no receiver hardware.
If the radio finds no stations, Samsung’s troubleshooting order is to confirm FM support for your specific device first, then connect compatible earphones.

Samsung describes FM as local broadcast reception that needs no network connectivity and uses no data bandwidth, unlike internet radio. It also notes that local broadcasts can carry public service alerts from authorities. That makes FM useful where mobile coverage is poor, data is capped, or networks are congested. A streaming app cannot replace those advantages.

Comparing two phones for FM
- Exact model number and regional or carrier suffix.
- Whether Samsung’s list or local support documentation confirms an FM receiver.
- Whether a native radio app, or other documented access, exists on that model.
- The earphone connector: a headphone jack, or USB-C with a compatible accessory.
- Whether you need offline local broadcasts rather than streaming.
