Support also differs between wired HDMI, wireless DeX and DeX for PC, so check your exact model, regional variant and intended connection before buying accessories.
What Samsung DeX does
DeX is Samsung’s desktop-style interface for a compatible Galaxy phone. When the phone is connected to an external TV or monitor, Android apps can open in resizable windows with a taskbar-like layout. The phone remains the computing device; the display, keyboard and mouse are peripherals.

Samsung’s own support wording is deliberately limited: “Samsung DeX is only supported on selected Samsung Galaxy devices.” A Galaxy name alone does not prove compatibility. Two phones in the same family can have different DeX support, and wired and wireless availability can differ on the same regional page.
Which models are compatible with Samsung DeX?
The most useful starting point is Samsung’s regional model lists. Canada and Colombia do not show identical generations, so treat the tables below as market-specific guidance rather than a universal list for every country.

The Canadian page separately identifies the Z Flip7 FE as not supporting HDMI or wireless DeX to a TV or monitor. That is a model-specific exception, not evidence that every Z Flip device lacks DeX.
Samsung Colombia list, updated July 29, 2026
The Colombia page applies to products bought in Colombia and separates connection types. Its wired list covers Galaxy S8 through S26, while its wireless list begins with Galaxy S9 and extends through S26. The page also names newer foldable variants, including Z TriFold and Z Flip8/Z Fold8 variants. Those additions are Colombia-specific information; do not assume that an identical retail name has the same support in another country.

Because the two pages have different update dates and market scope, the safest buying check is Samsung’s support page for the country where your phone was sold. Look up the complete model code, not only the family name shown on the box or in marketing.
Galaxy S phones
Canada lists S8, S9, S10, S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 and S25 series. Colombia’s July 2026 page lists S8 through S26 for wired use and starts wireless support at S9. If you are considering an S26 or a later generation, use the local page because Canada’s supplied list does not establish coverage for those newer generations.

Galaxy Note phones
Canada lists Note8, Note9, Note10 and Note20 families. Colombia lists Note8 for wired DeX and Note9, Note10 and Note20 for wireless DeX. The difference illustrates why a phone can appear in a DeX list while still requiring a particular connection method.
Galaxy foldables
Canada lists the original Galaxy Fold, Z Fold2 through Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. It explicitly excludes Z Flip7 FE from HDMI and wireless DeX to a TV or monitor. Colombia’s page adds names such as Z TriFold and Z Flip8/Z Fold8 variants, but those entries apply to the Colombian market page. Confirm the exact regional variant before purchasing a cable, dock or display receiver.
Galaxy A phones
A-series support is narrow. Both supplied regional pages identify the Galaxy A90 5G. Samsung’s US comparison information says Galaxy A17 5G, A27 5G, A37 5G and A57 5G do not support DeX. Do not infer support for the A series as a whole from one compatible A90 5G listing.

- A Galaxy phone listed for wired DeX in your market.
- A compatible USB-C-to-HDMI or DeX cable, or a compatible multiport adapter and HDMI cable.
- A TV or monitor with an available HDMI input.
The cable carries the signal; it cannot add DeX to an unsupported phone. A generic USB-C cable intended only for charging or data may not provide video output, so use a cable or adapter specified as compatible with DeX and verify its connector and display capabilities.
Connect a phone to a monitor or TV
- Turn on the HDMI monitor or TV and select the HDMI input you plan to use.
- Plug the USB-C end of the compatible DeX cable or adapter into the Galaxy phone.
- Connect the other end to the display’s HDMI input.
- Accept the DeX prompt on the phone if it appears. If the display offers a choice between screen mirroring and DeX, select DeX.
- Wait for the desktop interface to load, then open apps from the DeX taskbar or app drawer.
A phone can remain usable as a touchpad or handset while DeX is running, but a separate keyboard and mouse make windowed work much easier.
Keyboard and mouse options
Samsung’s setup directions support Bluetooth peripherals or a wired keyboard and mouse connected through a multiport adapter. Bluetooth avoids occupying the phone’s USB-C port, while a wired set can be useful when you need predictable input and do not want to pair devices. These accessories are optional; DeX can start with the phone alone.

Wireless DeX: requirements and setup
Wireless DeX requires a phone listed for wireless DeX and a display that supports Miracast. Samsung describes compatible Samsung TVs from 2018 onward and Smart TVs with Miracast support. A monitor without built-in wireless display support needs a Miracast-capable receiver.

Wireless performance depends on the display’s specifications and the Wi-Fi environment. Keep the phone close to the display and place both devices on the same network when possible. Wireless connections are convenient for presentations and occasional use, but they can show more latency than a cable in a busy or weak network.
Start a wireless session
- Turn on the Miracast-compatible TV or monitor and open its wireless display or screen-sharing mode.
- On the Galaxy phone, open the Quick panel and choose the DeX or Wireless DeX option.
- Select the target display from the detected devices.
- Approve the connection on the display if a permission prompt appears.
- Switch to DeX rather than ordinary screen mirroring when the phone offers both choices.
Menus can vary by One UI version and regional firmware. If Wireless DeX is absent from Quick settings, confirm the phone’s model support before treating it as a software fault.

Connecting a phone directly to a display and using Samsung’s DeX for PC application are separate use cases. A phone may support external-display DeX while the PC companion application is unavailable.
Samsung says DeX for PC is not supported on the Galaxy S25 series or on other models updated to One UI 7 or later. Samsung points those users to Link to Windows instead. This restriction does not mean that every S25 phone loses wired or wireless DeX to a compatible TV or monitor; check the phone’s external-display listing separately.

Troubleshooting a blank screen, lag or poor picture
No image over HDMI
- Recheck the exact model and regional variant against Samsung’s wired DeX list.
- Reseat both cable ends and try another HDMI input on the display.
- Inspect the cable or adapter for damage and confirm that it supports video output, not charging only.
- Set the TV or monitor to the correct HDMI source.
- Try a DeX-compatible resolution if the display rejects the current signal.
A compatible cable cannot overcome a phone that lacks DeX, so model verification comes before buying another adapter.
Wireless DeX cannot find the display
- Confirm that the TV or monitor supports Miracast and has wireless display mode enabled.
- Place the phone near the display and connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network where the equipment allows it.
- Disable competing screen-casting sessions and restart the phone and display.
- Check that the phone is on the wireless DeX list, not merely a wired-only entry.
Picture is distorted, too small or delayed
Samsung notes that display resolutions or settings can produce a distorted or undersized picture. Choose a supported resolution in the display or DeX settings and test another HDMI input or monitor mode. Wireless lag usually points to distance, interference, network congestion or display processing; reducing the distance and improving Wi-Fi conditions can help.
How to check a phone before buying accessories
- Open Settings, About phone and record the full model number and software version.
- Find Samsung’s support page for the country where the phone was purchased.
- Check wired HDMI support and wireless Miracast support as separate entries.
- Decide whether you need a TV/monitor connection or DeX for PC; they have different compatibility rules.
- Only then buy a USB-C-to-HDMI cable, multiport adapter, keyboard, mouse or Miracast receiver.
For two phones under consideration, compare the exact regional model, wired support, wireless support and intended display type. This prevents a common mistake: buying an accessory first and discovering that the phone itself is outside DeX’s supported hardware.
Tablets and other Galaxy devices
This article focuses on phones. Samsung’s tablet lists have their own connection rules. Samsung Canada says Tab S9 FE, Tab S10 Lite, Tab S10 Plus and Tab S10 FE lack HDMI output, while the Colombia connection-specific information also identifies Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE limitations. Do not transfer a phone compatibility result to a tablet without checking the tablet’s separate page.
Bottom line for buyers
Choose DeX based on the exact Galaxy model and connection you will use, not on the S, Note, A or Z label alone. Wired DeX needs a supported phone, a suitable cable and HDMI display. Wireless DeX needs a supported phone and Miracast-capable display with reasonable Wi-Fi conditions. Regional lists are not synchronized, and newer generations or foldable variants may appear first on one country’s page, so verify local support before spending money on accessories.
