No PS4 model and no PS4 firmware version can run RPCS3. RPCS3 is a PlayStation 3 emulator built for computers, and nothing in the project’s documentation names a PS4 revision or system software release as a supported host. Updating, downgrading or swapping your PS4 won’t change that.
Why the question has no PS4 answer
The question mixes up two different roles: the console being emulated and the machine doing the emulating.

- The emulated console is the PS3. The RPCS3 project describes itself as a PlayStation 3 emulator and sends users to a quickstart guide for computer system requirements.
- The host is a computer. RPCS3’s documentation is written for PCs. A PS4 is a closed console with its own operating system, so it isn’t the kind of platform those requirements describe.
- The firmware involved is PS3 firmware. RPCS3 setup uses PlayStation 3 system software, which Sony distributes through its PS3 support pages. PS4 firmware plays no part in it.
Does PS4 firmware version matter for RPCS3?
No. Version 9.00, 11.00 or any other number makes no difference, because RPCS3 never checks or uses PS4 system software. No PS4 model, whether the original, Slim or Pro, appears in RPCS3’s documentation as a supported device. This article doesn’t offer a PS4 compatibility table because there is nothing real to list.

RPCS3’s official documentation doesn’t say that any PS4 jailbreak or exploitable firmware lets RPCS3 run on the console. Be skeptical of videos, forum posts or downloads that claim otherwise. Files offered as an “RPCS3 for PS4” are not part of the official project, and installing unknown software on a console carries real risk.

What to do instead
Run RPCS3 on a computer
Open the quickstart linked from the RPCS3 project README and check its current minimum requirements. Older FAQ pages mention Windows and Linux, but they are historical, so don’t treat them as an up-to-date platform list. When judging a computer, compare these four things against the quickstart:
- Supported operating system
- CPU architecture and performance
- GPU and the graphics APIs it supports
- How well your target games are reported to run on the project’s game compatibility list
Get PS3 firmware from the right place
The system software RPCS3 needs is the PS3 version, available from Sony’s PS3 system software support page. PS4 updates are a different product line and are no substitute.

Use a DualShock 4 if you like
This is the one real PS4 connection. RPCS3’s controller wiki lists the DualShock 4 as a suitable controller on a computer, with connection details for supported operating systems. It is only an input device. It does nothing to make RPCS3 work on a PS4.

RPCS3 is not the route. Whatever Sony offers for playing PS3 titles on PS4 is a separate matter from emulation, and it isn’t covered by RPCS3’s documentation.
