Buy a standard PS5 if God of War is your main reason for getting a PlayStation. Which God of War games work on each console?

- Identify your copy. Determine whether you own a digital PS4 license or a physical PS4 disc, and confirm that the listing identifies an eligible edition.
- Check the console requirement. A physical-disc upgrade requires a PS5 with a disc drive. A digital PS4 license does not use a disc, but you should still review the current regional terms.
- Use the same account. Sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the digital license, or use the account and disc combination required by the on-screen offer.
- Open the Ragnarök product page on the PS5. Look for the upgrade option associated with the PS4 purchase rather than buying the full PS5 edition a second time.
- Review the fee and conditions. Confirm the displayed charge, edition, region and any expiry or eligibility notes before accepting.
- Download the digital PS5 version. A disc-based entitlement still requires the qualifying disc and a disc-drive PS5 under PlayStation’s stated condition; keep the physical copy available for any ownership check the console requests.

PlayStation currently labels God of War Ragnarök “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” That confirms the game is identified for the enhanced model, but the official information reviewed here does not quantify what changes compared with a standard PS5. It does not establish a universal resolution, frame-rate target, visual setting or loading-time advantage.
Choose PS5 Pro only after answering two questions:
- Is the current price premium in your country acceptable even without a published model-to-model measurement?
- Do you care enough about potential enhanced presentation to pay that premium rather than putting the money toward games, storage, a display or another accessory?
Do not buy the Pro solely because an enhanced badge appears on a store page. The badge is useful evidence that the game supports the model, but it is not a substitute for a quantified comparison. “PS5 Pro Enhanced” identifies support, but it does not provide a universal numerical comparison. Avoid paying a premium based on an assumed frame rate or resolution.
Ignoring the screen and audio chain
Advertised 4K and 3D Audio features depend on compatible equipment. Check the display and headphones you already own before adding those features to your budget.
