Keep Brightness, Contrast, Black Level and Gamma adjustments conservative, try a warmer color temperature, and reduce Motion Enhancement if movies look unnaturally smooth. Switch to Game mode for a console or PC. HDR controls must be adjusted only after you confirm that the source is actually sending HDR. These are safe starting points, not universal calibration values: Hisense menus and behavior vary by model, region, software version, input and picture mode.
Open the picture controls first
On a representative current Hisense e-manual, the main path is Settings > Display & Sound > Picture. Brightness-related controls are under Picture > Brightness; color and detail controls are under Picture > Color or Picture > Clarity; and advanced adjustment tools are under Picture > Calibration Settings.

Your QLED may show different names, a different hierarchy or fewer controls. Hisense says availability can depend on the model, country or region, selected picture mode, input and software. If an option listed below is missing, that normally means the television does not expose it in the current state; it does not mean you have overlooked a hidden universal setting. HDR-only controls may not appear while viewing SDR, and some settings are stored separately for each input or mode.
Choose a sensible picture mode
Filmmaker Mode for films
If your model offers Filmmaker Mode, use it as the first trial for movies and scripted shows. Hisense describes this mode on its E6 product information as presenting a picture as originally envisioned by the filmmaker. That is a manufacturer description, not independent proof that every QLED is perfectly calibrated, so judge the result in your room.

Movie or Cinema when Filmmaker is absent
Movie, Cinema or a similarly named natural preset is usually the closest alternative. Start there before changing individual sliders; a preset establishes a coherent combination of color, contrast and processing. Avoid beginning with Vivid, Dynamic or Sport for films because those modes commonly prioritize showroom brightness and exaggerated color.
Why one preset cannot be “best” for everything
| Use case | Starting mode | What to adjust next |
|---|---|---|
| Films and ordinary TV | Filmmaker, Movie or Cinema | Room-appropriate backlight, color temperature and motion |
| Bright daytime viewing | Natural or your preferred film preset | Raise backlight/output only as far as needed for visibility |
| Sports | Natural, Sports or a film preset | Try restrained Motion Enhancement, then compare it off |
| Console or PC gaming | Game | Confirm input-specific gaming features on your model |
| HDR movie or game | The HDR mode that appears after HDR is detected | Check tone-mapping and other HDR controls in that signal state |
Set backlight and local dimming for the room
Backlight or panel-light output
Backlight, panel brightness or a similarly named output control changes how much light the screen produces. Raise it in a sunlit room and lower it in a dark room until the picture is comfortable. This is different from the control named Brightness on many televisions, which changes the image’s lighter and darker level rather than simply setting lamp intensity. Do not chase a particular slider number across models.
Dynamic Backlight Control or Local Dimming
Hisense’s manual describes Dynamic Backlight Control/Local Dimming as adjusting the backlight in sections according to changes in the image to increase contrast. Enable it at a level that improves blacks without distracting you with visible brightness pumping, halos or loss of shadow detail. Options may be Off, Low, Medium, High or another model-specific set; there is no single correct level for every panel.

Automatic Light Sensor
Some sets include an Automatic Light Sensor that changes picture output according to ambient light. Current Hisense product information also advertises ambient-light brightness adjustment on certain models. It can be useful if your room changes dramatically, but disable it temporarily while troubleshooting because a changing room-based output can make comparisons confusing.

Adjust Brightness, Contrast, Black Level and Gamma carefully
Brightness
Use a dark scene with visible shadow detail. Lower Brightness if blacks look gray and raise it only if dark clothing, hair or background texture disappears. Make small changes, wait for your eyes to adapt, and check several scenes rather than one unusually dark shot.
Contrast
Contrast controls the high end of the image. Excessive Contrast can clip bright clouds, white shirts and highlight detail; too little can make the image look flat. Use a scene containing both bright and mid-tone objects and stop before pale areas become featureless.
Black Level and HDMI Dynamic Range
Black Level and HDMI Dynamic Range are signal-level controls, not general “make it darker” sliders. HDMI Dynamic Range applies to an HDMI input. The source and television must use matching range conventions; a mismatch produces a washed-out picture or crushed shadows. If only one HDMI device looks wrong, check that device’s video-range setting and the TV’s corresponding input setting rather than altering every picture control.
Gamma
Gamma changes how tones between black and white are distributed. The e-manual gives example choices such as 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 for different room conditions, but those are menu examples, not evidence that one value is universally best. A brighter room may be easier to view with a lighter mid-tone response; a dark room may suit a deeper one. Compare a familiar scene and retain the setting that preserves both shadow texture and natural faces.

Active Contrast
Active Contrast automatically darkens dark areas and lightens light areas. It can add punch, but it can also change the intended balance from shot to shot. Compare it on and off using the same content. Keep it off if highlights clip or brightness visibly shifts; keep it on only when you prefer the effect.
Make color look natural before chasing accuracy
Color temperature
Color Temperature changes the appearance of white areas: warmer presets look redder or more amber, while cooler presets look bluer. A warm or Warm1-style option often appears more natural for films than a cool showroom setting, but naming and implementation vary. Give your eyes several minutes to adapt before deciding, and check neutral whites, skin tones and gray objects.
Color, Hue and Color Space
Leave Color and Hue near their preset values initially. Excessive Color makes faces and grass neon; incorrect Hue can push skin toward green or magenta. Color Space may offer Auto, Native or a standard gamut choice. Auto is the safest starting point unless you have a verified model-specific instruction for a different option and understand which signal is being displayed.
Calibration Settings
Calibration Settings may expose a color tuner, white balance, gamma calibration, RGB-only views and Calman service functionality. These controls can correct a measured error, but they are not casual picture improvements. Do not copy white-balance numbers from another Hisense model: panel batches, software and measurement conditions differ. Leave them at their defaults unless you have a meter, a verified recipe for the exact model and a way to restore the original values.

Control sharpness, noise reduction and motion
Sharpness
Sharpness adds edge processing rather than creating missing detail. Increase it only until fine text or hair looks defined, then back off if you see bright halos, ringing or artificial outlines. A clean high-definition source often needs little additional sharpening.
Noise Reduction and MPEG Noise Reduction
Noise Reduction can help with analog-looking broadcasts, heavily compressed streams or grainy low-resolution material. MPEG Noise Reduction targets block and mosquito artifacts. Both can smear fine texture, so compare them with processing off on a clean HD or 4K source. Use the lowest setting that solves a visible problem, and do not leave aggressive processing enabled for every input just because it helps one poor channel.
Motion Enhancement
Motion Enhancement reduces perceived afterimages in fast movement. Custom modes may expose separate blur and judder reduction controls. For films, lower or disable it if you see the “soap-opera” look, halos around moving objects or an overly video-like presentation. Sports viewers may prefer a restrained amount for ball and camera movement, but artifacts are a valid reason to reduce it. Compare the same broadcast with processing on and off; preference and panel behavior differ.

SDR movies and everyday television
- Select Filmmaker, Movie or Cinema.
- Set backlight/output for the room, not for a fixed internet value.
- Choose a warmer color-temperature option if neutral objects look too blue.
- Leave Brightness, Contrast, Gamma and color controls near their preset positions, then make small scene-based changes.
- Reduce Motion Enhancement if movement looks artificial.
Bright rooms
Increase panel-light output only enough to overcome ambient light. If Automatic Light Sensor is enabled, decide whether its changing output is helpful; turn it off while making manual comparisons. Raising the separate Brightness control can wash out blacks, so use the room/output control first.
Best Value
HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive, Dolby Vision and HLG
First verify the signal. Start HDR playback and check that the TV reports HDR or changes to an HDR picture mode. Current Hisense E6 and E7 product pages advertise different combinations of Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10 and HLG, so support must be confirmed for your exact television and source.
Dynamic Tone Mapping may appear only while HDR is active and may not be offered in every model or region. It analyzes HDR brightness and adjusts brightness and gradient balance. Compare its available options with a familiar HDR scene; do not copy SDR slider values into HDR modes or assume every HDR preset can be manually overridden.
Sports
Use your natural preset or a sports preset if supplied, then test moderate motion processing. Watch for trails, double edges and shimmering around players. If those artifacts are distracting, reduce the setting even if the image looks less fluid.

Console and PC gaming
Hisense documents the path Settings > Display & Sound > General > Picture Mode > Game. Game mode is the manufacturer’s starting point for a connected console or PC because it optimizes the picture for that type of input. Features such as high refresh rate or variable refresh are model- and connection-dependent; verify that your exact set and HDMI port support them before changing related options.
A safe adjustment order
- Choose the content-specific picture mode.
- Confirm whether the input is SDR or HDR.
- Set backlight/panel output and any local-dimming level for the room.
- Check Black Level and HDMI Dynamic Range if the image is washed out or crushed.
- Adjust Brightness and Contrast cautiously with scenes containing shadow and highlight detail.
- Try a warmer color temperature, then inspect skin tones and neutral whites.
- Set Sharpness and noise reduction low, increasing them only for a visible source problem.
- Test Motion Enhancement with real content and keep the lowest level you enjoy.
- Save or note settings separately for each input and picture mode, since many televisions do not share them globally.
Fix common problems without resetting everything
Blacks look gray
- Check that the source and HDMI Dynamic Range use matching range settings.
- Lower Brightness slightly rather than reducing backlight output alone.
- Test local dimming/Dynamic Backlight Control for distracting blooming or pumping.
Shadow detail has disappeared
- Raise Brightness in small steps and check a second dark scene.
- Undo an overly aggressive Gamma or Active Contrast setting.
- Confirm that a source-range mismatch is not crushing near-black tones.
Highlights are flat or clipped
- Reduce Contrast slightly and disable aggressive Active Contrast.
- For HDR, verify that the source is really in HDR and compare Dynamic Tone Mapping options available in that mode.
The picture looks blue, oversaturated or artificial
- Try a warmer Color Temperature.
- Return Color and Hue toward their preset values.
- Leave advanced white balance and color-tuner controls untouched without measurements.
Movies look like live video
- Lower or disable Motion Enhancement, especially judder reduction.
- Check that a vivid or sports preset has not been selected accidentally.
Only one device looks wrong
- Adjust that HDMI input’s range and picture mode rather than changing the whole television.
- Confirm the device’s output resolution, HDR setting and color-range option.
What not to copy from a generic settings list
Universal numeric recipes are unreliable for Hisense QLED televisions because panel characteristics, firmware, region, signal type and room lighting differ. Official manuals explain what controls do, but they do not establish one calibrated number for every model. Internet values for Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, white balance or color tuner should be treated as model-specific instructions only when they identify your exact model, software and measurement conditions. Otherwise, use the conservative process above and preserve the original values so you can undo a change.
