Which phone has the better display?
On the listed specifications, the Redmi Note 17 5G has the larger screen and higher maximum refresh rate: 6.99 inches and up to 120 Hz, versus the Galaxy A17 5G’s 6.7 inches and up to 90 Hz. That can make Xiaomi’s screen a better fit if you prioritize screen area or smoother motion in supported content. These specifications alone do not establish which screen has more accurate colors, better outdoor visibility or superior image quality.

Which has the better cameras?
Galaxy A17 5G: more specified rear-camera roles
Samsung lists a 50 MP main camera with OIS, plus 5 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro cameras. OIS is a concrete advantage for reducing camera shake in supported shooting conditions. The extra cameras also provide different framing options.
Redmi Note 17 5G: check the regional camera configuration
Xiaomi India’s specification page lists a 50 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera. Its Colombia and Malaysia pages instead list a 16 MP front camera. Check the regional SKU rather than assuming those details apply to every Redmi Note 17 5G.

A 50 MP label does not determine overall image quality, and the available specifications do not provide an equivalent independent camera test for the two phones. Choose based on features you need—especially OIS or an ultra-wide camera—rather than megapixel counts alone.

Xiaomi India lists an 8000 mAh typical battery and 45 W wired charging for its Redmi Note 17 5G. The Galaxy A17 5G comparison listing gives 5000 mAh and 25 W charging. Those figures favor Xiaomi for capacity and rated charging power, but they do not establish real-world battery life or how long either phone takes to charge. Results depend on use and charging conditions.

Xiaomi’s India product page also claims “up to 3+ days on a single charge” for light usage, based on Xiaomi internal lab testing, and says actual results vary. Treat that as a manufacturer claim, not a direct comparison with Samsung.
How long will each phone receive software support?
Samsung UK states that Galaxy A17 5G security support runs through 31 August 2031. Xiaomi India advertises four years of operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates for the Redmi Note 17 5G. These are manufacturer-stated terms for their respective markets; confirm the policy for the exact regional model you plan to buy.

What is the price difference in India?
The 91mobiles comparison page displayed ₹21,499 for the Galaxy A17 5G and ₹27,999 for the Redmi Note 17 5G—a ₹6,500 difference in that observed listing snapshot. Xiaomi’s India Store separately lists ₹27,999 for the Redmi’s 6 GB/128 GB model. Samsung’s cited India product page is an 8 GB/256 GB listing and does not provide an equivalent live price, so the snapshot is not a like-for-like comparison.
