Which Phone Settings Should You Change First on a New iQOO Phone?

On a new iQOO phone, change settings in this order: secure the lock screen, limit app permissions, protect notification privacy, make the display comfortable, choose a sensible refresh-rate mode, review battery and sleep controls, and only then personalize the home screen. This order protects your data and prevents daily annoyances before you spend time on appearance.

Exact menus depend on the iQOO model, Funtouch OS version, carrier and country. Treat the paths below as starting points. If a label is missing, search for it in Settings; the official user manual says, “If you can’t find a certain option on your device, it means the feature is not supported.”

1. Secure the lock screen before doing anything else

Your first task is to ensure that somebody who picks up the phone cannot open it or read more than you intend. Set a screen lock if one is not already active. A strong PIN is usually the practical default; use a password if you need more protection and accept slower unlocking. Add fingerprint or face unlock only after a secure primary lock exists, because the PIN or password remains the fallback.

Check what appears while the phone is locked

Open the lock-screen controls and decide whether message previews, one-time codes, calendar details and other alerts should be visible. The manual documents a lock-screen settings area for the clock, date and shortcuts, but the exact options vary. A useful privacy choice is to show that an app has a notification without displaying its content until the phone is unlocked.

  • Breathing Light: The BOLD K50 camera features a beautiful halo breathing light that elegantly pulses to life upon receiving notifications, adding a touch of style to your device.

Review lock-screen shortcuts as well. Keep a shortcut only if you would use it without unlocking; remove or change one that could expose information or trigger an action from the locked screen. If your phone offers an Always On Display (AOD), remember that it can show information and notifications at a glance. Its location is Settings > Home screen, lock screen & wallpaper > Always On Display. Choose a display mode, style and notification behavior if those controls are present.

2. Audit app permissions and notification access

New phones often restore or preinstall more apps than you expect. Before signing into every service, inspect what each app can access. Go through the app-permission manager and keep access that matches the app’s purpose. A navigation app may need location while in use; a calculator normally does not need contacts, microphone or continuous location.

A practical permission pass

  1. Open Settings and search for Permissions, Permission manager or App permissions. The wording differs between Funtouch OS builds.
  2. Review sensitive categories such as location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone, SMS, files and photos.
  3. Open each category and inspect the apps listed as allowed. Change an app to a more limited option, such as “Allow only while using,” when that option exists.
  4. Open individual apps that you recognize but do not trust with broad access, then disable permissions they do not need. Revisit the app later if a feature stops working.
  5. Look for notification access, device-administrator access, accessibility access and “display over other apps.” These are more powerful than ordinary alerts and should be enabled only for an app whose function requires them.

The official vivo manual describes system settings for managing app permissions, but it does not establish one universal label for every iQOO build. Use Settings search when the menu name differs.

3. Set notification privacy and status-bar information

Notifications are useful only when they are presented in a way you can live with. Choose whether alerts appear as banners, on the lock screen, in the status bar or only inside the notification shade. Keep high-value alerts, such as calls, authentication codes and delivery updates, while silencing noisy promotional categories inside individual apps.

Choose lock-screen disclosure

For a phone that is often left on a desk or shared at home, hide sensitive content on the lock screen and show only the app name or icon. If glanceable messages are more important than privacy, allow previews for selected apps rather than exposing every notification.

Check screen-sharing behavior on supported software

Funtouch OS 15 advertises a privacy feature for third-party mirroring or recording apps: sensitive information is kept private, and notifications can be reduced to app icons and names. This is a version-specific feature, not a guarantee for every iQOO phone or every mirroring application. Confirm that the controls appear on your device before relying on them during a presentation or recording.

Use the status-bar settings to decide whether battery percentage and other indicators are visible. A percentage is helpful if you regularly monitor battery level; a less crowded bar may be preferable if you rarely check it.

4. Make the display comfortable for your eyes

Display settings affect every minute you use the phone. Set them before adjusting wallpapers or icon packs so you can judge the phone under normal conditions.

Brightness and adaptive brightness

Use Settings > Display and brightness to adjust brightness. iQOO support also documents manual adjustment after turning off Auto-brightness. Adaptive brightness is convenient when lighting changes, while manual control is useful if the sensor repeatedly chooses a level you dislike. There is no universal brightness number that suits every panel or room; set the lowest level that remains comfortable and readable.

Eye Protection

Open Settings > Display & brightness > Eye Protection > Schedule to schedule a warmer screen during evening hours. A schedule is more dependable than remembering to enable the mode every night. If you prefer the standard color profile for photo editing or other color-sensitive work, leave Eye Protection off during those tasks.

Dark theme

Find Settings > Display & brightness > Dark theme. You can enable it continuously or use a schedule if offered. Dark theme is primarily a comfort and appearance choice. The manual notes that some screens use a solid-black background that may help extend battery life, but it does not quantify a universal saving, so do not expect the same result on every iQOO display or app.

Screen timeout

Set Settings > Display & brightness > Screen timeout to a delay that balances convenience with security and battery use. A short timeout is safer in public; a longer one helps when reading a recipe or document. You can temporarily keep the screen awake for a specific task rather than selecting an unnecessarily long default.

5. Select a refresh-rate mode based on your priority

Go to Settings > Display & brightness > Screen refresh rate. A higher available rate can make scrolling and supported content feel smoother, while a lower rate can reduce power use. The available rates, default and names are model-specific.

What to choose

  • Smart or Smart Switch: choose this when you want the phone to select a suitable rate for the current app and battery conditions. Product documentation for one iQOO model describes Smart Switch as its default, illustrating why a universal recommendation would be misleading.
  • Highest available rate: choose this when smooth scrolling and games matter more than endurance, and your model offers the option.
  • Lower fixed rate: choose this when extending battery life is more important than animation smoothness.

Do not assume a setting shown on another iQOO model exists on yours. If the refresh-rate menu lists only one mode, that is a hardware or software limitation rather than a setting you have missed.

6. Review battery, sleep and power-saving controls

Open the battery section in Settings and inspect usage by app before enabling aggressive restrictions. An app with unusually high background use may need its own sync settings changed, or it may be an app you no longer need.

Use power saving deliberately

Power-saving modes can restrict background work, performance or network activity. Enable them when you need extra runtime, but check whether delayed mail, messaging or navigation would be a problem. Do not impose the most restrictive mode permanently unless you accept those trade-offs.

AI sleep mode on Funtouch OS 15

Funtouch OS 15 advertises an AI sleep mode that can restrict unnecessary network connections during sleep. It is available only on supported devices running that software. If the option appears, read its explanation and test whether delayed background updates affect apps you rely on.

Combine sleep behavior with timeout

A sensible screen timeout prevents the display from staying on, while sleep controls address network and background activity after the phone is idle. They solve different problems; changing one does not replace reviewing the other.

7. Configure Always On Display with its battery trade-off in mind

AOD is optional rather than essential setup. From Settings > Home screen, lock screen & wallpaper > Always On Display, select a mode or style and choose which notifications, if any, appear. It provides at-a-glance information without unlocking, but it keeps part of the display active and can affect power use. The official manual documents the modes but does not provide a universal battery figure, so judge the trade-off on your own model.

8. Personalize the home screen after the functional setup

Once security, privacy, display and battery behavior are settled, adjust the home screen. Open Settings > Home screen, lock screen & wallpaper > Home settings.

Choose a home-screen style

The manual lists Standard and Drawer styles where supported. Standard places installed apps on home-screen pages; Drawer keeps apps in an app drawer and can leave the home screen less crowded. Pick the style that matches how you find apps rather than changing it because one is marketed as the default.

Set layout and new-app behavior

Review layout options, the setting that adds new app icons to the home screen, and the swipe-down behavior if your build provides them. Turning off automatic icon placement keeps the first page stable. A search or notification-shade gesture may be more useful than a shortcut you trigger accidentally.

9. A quick first-day sequence

If you want a compact order to follow while unboxing, use this checklist:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install system updates and restart if requested.
  2. Set a PIN or password, then enroll fingerprint or face unlock if desired.
  3. Hide or reveal lock-screen notification content according to your privacy needs.
  4. Inspect app permissions and powerful access such as accessibility or “display over other apps.”
  5. Set brightness, Eye Protection schedule, Dark theme and screen timeout.
  6. Choose Smart Switch, a high rate or a lower fixed rate from the refresh-rate menu.
  7. Review battery usage, power-saving modes and any AI sleep option shown by your software.
  8. Decide whether AOD is worth its glanceability for your usage.
  9. Choose Standard or Drawer home-screen style and stop automatic icon clutter if preferred.

10. Why a setting may be missing

Funtouch OS menus differ by model, software version, carrier and country. A feature described in a manual for one handset may not be included in another. The official manual’s guidance is explicit: “If you can’t find a certain option on your device, it means the feature is not supported.”

Before concluding that a control has moved, search Settings using several likely terms—for example, “refresh rate,” “eye protection,” “sleep,” “lock screen” or “permissions.” Check the phone’s model and software version under About phone, then consult the manual for that exact build. Avoid installing a third-party utility merely to recreate a missing system feature; it may require the very permissions you just restricted.

11. Settings you should revisit later

Setup is not a one-time event. Recheck permissions after installing a group of apps, review battery usage after a major update, and revisit notification previews if your work or living situation changes. When Funtouch OS receives a major version update, menu names and available features can change, so confirm that an old shortcut still points to the behavior you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I set the refresh rate to the highest option immediately?

Not necessarily. Use Smart or Smart Switch for an adaptive compromise, choose the highest available rate for smoother supported content, or select a lower fixed rate when battery endurance matters more. The available modes and default depend on your iQOO model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I assume every iQOO phone has AI sleep mode and private screen-sharing notifications?

No. Those are features advertised for supported devices running Funtouch OS 15. They may be absent on another model, software version or regional build.

What should I do when an instruction does not match my Settings app?

Search Settings for the feature name, verify your model and software version, and consult the manual for that handset. A missing option can mean the device does not support it.
