The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the stronger fit if you want an integrated S Pen and both 3x and 5x optical telephoto options. The iPhone 16 Pro Max gives you a slightly larger display and Apple’s iOS ecosystem. Their listed specifications do not establish a camera-quality or performance winner, and the available price figures are not comparable live quotes.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra for the S Pen and zoom choices
The S24 Ultra has an S Pen built into the phone, making it the natural choice if you regularly handwrite notes, annotate documents, or want stylus input without carrying a separate accessory. Its rear camera layout also includes both 3x and 5x telephoto cameras, giving you two dedicated zoom perspectives.
Choose the iPhone 16 Pro Max for iOS and a larger listed display
The iPhone’s listed screen is 0.1 inch larger diagonally, and it is the relevant choice if you want to stay with Apple’s iOS ecosystem. The display specifications differ in resolution and panel terminology; size and refresh-rate figures alone do not settle perceived brightness, color, reflectivity, or overall quality.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Which camera is better?
The hardware gives each phone a different set of options, not a conclusive image-quality verdict. Samsung lists a 200MP main camera and separate 3x and 5x telephotos; Apple lists 48MP main and ultrawide cameras with a 5x telephoto. Megapixel counts and lens ranges do not show how the phones compare in real photos or video. No matched independent camera test is established here, so choose based on focal lengths you use and seek comparable sample images if image quality is the deciding factor.
How much more does the Galaxy S24 Ultra cost?
A definitive current price difference cannot be calculated from the available figures. Samsung announced a US S24 Ultra launch price of $1,299.99 for the 256GB model in 2024; availability was announced to begin January 31, 2024. That is historical launch pricing, not a current offer. The AT&T comparison page displayed a $1,099.99 starting retail price for the iPhone when checked in 2026, but its context does not establish a same-date, same-storage, same-condition market price; it also indicates the S24 Ultra is no longer available there.
Rank #2
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
For a meaningful comparison, check current listings in your country and compare the same storage capacity, condition, carrier lock status, and purchase terms. A launch MSRP for one phone and a carrier page’s starting price for another should not be subtracted as if they were equivalent.

No. Samsung lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, while Apple lists A18 Pro. Those are the manufacturers’ processor specifications, but without a matched independent benchmark under comparable conditions, the chip names alone do not establish a speed winner.
