Under ₹15,000 in India, prioritize the exact phone variant and its normal selling price, then match its strengths to your main use. For many primary-phone buyers, 6GB of physical RAM and 128GB storage are practical starting targets—not guarantees of speed or longevity. Compare the display, processor and storage, camera performance, battery endurance, software support and network compatibility before choosing. A high refresh rate, large megapixel count or 5G badge alone does not make a phone the better buy.
Start with the exact variant and price
A model’s advertised starting price may refer to a lower-memory configuration than the one you intend to buy. Compare phones with the same RAM and storage, and distinguish the ordinary selling price from an exchange, bank or coupon offer. The specific new variant must actually be below ₹15,000; renewed or refurbished stock is a separate comparison.

Choose a practical memory and performance baseline
RAM and storage
A September 2026 buying guide describes 6GB of physical RAM and 128GB storage as practical targets for a primary phone. Four gigabytes may still suit light calling, messaging, payments and basic apps, but is a less comfortable choice for multi-year ownership. Virtual or extended RAM uses storage and is not equivalent to physical RAM.
#1 Best Overall

- Rear Camera: 50MP, f/1.8 (wide), Quad Pixel technology, Front Camera: 8MP, f/2.0, Fingerprint (side-mounted), face unlock
- 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, 3G UMTS/HSPA+: 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz, 4G: LTE 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/14/20/29/30/66 - Single SIM
- AT&T Unlocked Device - Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.
128GB is a useful target if you keep photos, videos, apps or offline downloads on the phone. Check the exact storage configuration rather than assuming every version of a model has the same capacity.
Processor and gaming
Do not judge speed by core count or a Snapdragon or Dimensity family name alone. Chip generation, storage type, thermal behavior and software tuning all affect everyday responsiveness; sustained gaming also depends on the GPU and how well the phone manages heat.
For gaming, compare chipset and GPU, physical RAM, storage speed, thermals and display resolution together. A benchmark score or a high refresh-rate label is not proof of sustained gaming performance unless relevant testing supports it.

Panel type, resolution, brightness and refresh rate each affect the experience. An FHD+ 90Hz screen may be preferable to an HD+ 120Hz screen if sharper text and detail matter more than the higher refresh-rate figure. AMOLED offers stronger blacks and contrast; a good FHD+ LCD can still be a sensible choice when a phone is stronger in other areas.

- Fluid 120Hz Display: Features a large 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for smooth scrolling and added durability.
Consider outdoor readability, screen size and one-handed comfort alongside the spec sheet. The question is not simply whether 120Hz is better than 90Hz: it is whether the complete screen suits your use.
Judge cameras by results, not megapixels
Megapixel count alone does not predict useful photos. Look for evidence about image processing, low-light performance, shutter response when photographing movement, video quality and stabilization. Check whether optical image stabilization (OIS) is present on the exact model and whether the secondary cameras are genuinely useful.
A cited buying guide notes that a 50MP OIS camera with good processing can outperform a higher-megapixel sensor in low light and video. That is general guidance, not a hands-on comparison of every phone below ₹15,000. Give more weight to model-specific photo and video evidence than to a headline sensor number.
Compare battery endurance, charging and weight
Capacity is only one part of battery life. Compare credible endurance tests, charging time, phone weight and optimization, and check whether the charging adapter comes in the box. A well-optimized 5,000mAh phone can be a better choice than a phone with a smaller battery and faster charging; a larger battery can also mean a heavier device or slower charging.

A September 2026 guide calls 6,000mAh a strong capacity target in this category, but that figure does not guarantee a particular runtime. As an example of why footnotes matter, Samsung India lists the Galaxy M17’s battery as 5,000mAh typical, while its detailed note gives a 4,860mAh minimum rated capacity and says the 25W charger is sold separately: Samsung Galaxy M17 5G specifications.
Check the actual software-support promise
Look up the Android version on the exact unit and the manufacturer’s stated operating-system upgrade and security-update policies. Read the qualifications: update counts, release content and timing may be presented as plans rather than binding commitments. Also consider preinstalled software, service-centre access and repair support.
Samsung India’s Galaxy M17 5G page lists a Super AMOLED FHD+ display at 90Hz, a 50MP rear camera with OIS, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage and a 5,000mAh typical battery. It states “6 Gen OS Upgrades | 6 years Security Updates,” but its footnote says this describes Samsung’s current plans, is not a commitment or obligation, and that release content and timing may change. The page showed “Not for sale” when checked, so these specifications do not establish current availability below ₹15,000.
Verify 5G and other connectivity details
For a new primary phone near this budget, 5G is a reasonable default if it fits your network and use. The 5G label alone does not establish compatibility with every operator. Check the exact model’s supported bands and standalone (SA) or non-standalone (NSA) modes against your local operator.

If they matter to you, also check call stability, VoLTE and VoWiFi, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and dual-SIM behavior. A feature list does not substitute for confirming compatibility with your own network and setup.

| If you care most about | Prioritize | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday use and longer ownership | 6GB physical RAM and 128GB storage as practical starting targets; responsive storage; software and security support | Virtual RAM is equivalent to physical RAM |
| Gaming | Chipset and GPU, physical RAM, storage speed, thermals and display resolution | A high refresh-rate number or benchmark guarantees sustained performance |
| Photos and video | OIS on the exact model, processing, low-light and motion handling, video stabilization and useful secondary cameras | More megapixels automatically mean better results |
| Viewing | Panel type, resolution, brightness, refresh rate, size and comfort | 120Hz is always better than a sharper 90Hz display |
| Battery life | Credible endurance evidence, capacity, charging time, weight and included adapter | A larger capacity guarantees longer runtime |
| Mobile network use | Exact 5G bands and SA/NSA support for your operator, plus other connectivity you need | A 5G badge guarantees compatibility |
There is no universal winner across these priorities. For instance, a buyer who games regularly should weigh thermals and GPU more heavily than a casual user, while someone keeping a phone for years should pay close attention to update terms and the memory configuration.
Use reviews and examples with their limits in mind
91mobiles lists the Tecno Pova 7 5G as its overall pick and reports an expert overall rating of 8.3/10 in 2026. Its page describes assessment across performance, camera, gaming, battery, display, software and value. That rating is 91mobiles’ assessment, not an independent standard, and does not prove every configuration is below ₹15,000. The same publisher reports up to 18h 43m of tested battery life for the realme P4 Lite 4G in 2026; that result applies to its review methodology and configuration, not to other phones: 91mobiles phone reviews and listings.

Treat its price context as a dated snapshot and verify each model, SKU and current price before purchase: Punit Patel’s 2026 phone buying guide.
These examples illustrate different comparison axes; they do not establish a single phone as best for every buyer. No population-level survey figure establishes which feature Indian buyers value most.
