Among these six notable passenger jets, Airbus lists the A350-900/A350-900ULR at up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 km), the highest figure in the comparison. That maximum includes the ultra-long-range variant; it is not a like-for-like ranking of aircraft carrying the same passenger load under identical conditions. The figures below are manufacturer-published capabilities, not measurements from a common test.
How to read the range figures
A published maximum range describes an aircraft capability under its stated configuration and operating assumptions. It is not the distance every version can fly with a full passenger cabin, nor does it promise that a particular route will be flown nonstop. Payload, cabin fit, aircraft variant and operating conditions affect achievable range. The manufacturers do not present all six figures using one shared passenger load or testing method, so treat this as a comparison of notable long-range aircraft, not a definitive global ranking.

| Aircraft | Published maximum range | Capacity or configuration stated by source | Status and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airbus A350-900 / A350-900ULR | Up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 km) Airbus A350 family specifications | 332–352 passengers in a standard three-class configuration, per the same product page. | The A350-900 is offered in regional, classic and ULR weight variants. The 9,700-nm figure includes the ULR variant; it should not be read as the range of every A350-900 configuration. |
| Airbus A350-1000 | Up to 9,100 nautical miles | Classic three-class configuration, according to Airbus’s July 2026 report. | Airbus reported this figure in July 2026. It is distinct from the A350-1000ULR development aircraft. |
| Boeing 777-200LR | Up to 8,500 nautical miles Boeing 777 specifications | 300–375 seats in a two-class layout, per Boeing’s current product page. | Current product-page value. Boeing’s 2005 unveiling announcement gave a separate historical claim of 9,420 nautical miles with 301 passengers; the differing figures have different publication dates and assumptions, so they are not interchangeable. |
| Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner | Up to 8,300 nautical miles Boeing 787 specifications | Not stated in the cited family range table. | Current Boeing family-table figure. |
| Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner | Up to 8,000 nautical miles Boeing 787 specifications | Not stated in the cited family range table. | Current Boeing family-table figure. |
| Boeing 777-300ER | Up to 7,500 nautical miles Boeing 777 specifications | 350–425 seats in a two-class layout, per Boeing. | Current Boeing product-page figure. |
What the A350 figures mean in practice
A350-900 and A350-900ULR
Airbus’s product page gives the A350-900 family a maximum of 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 km) and identifies regional, classic and ULR weight variants. The ULR is a distinct ultra-long-range configuration, developed for very long nonstop operations. Airbus reported in 2018 that Singapore Airlines had taken delivery of the first A350-900ULR and introduced it on Singapore–New York, a route Airbus described as nearly 9,000 nautical miles. That is a documented example of intended use, not proof of the route’s current schedule or aircraft assignment. Airbus, September 2018; Airbus, October 2018

Do not apply the ULR-inclusive 9,700-nautical-mile figure to every A350-900. In a separate July 2026 report, Airbus stated 8,600 nautical miles for the A350-900. The source contexts differ, and the product-page maximum includes the ULR variant; the two numbers describe differently framed claims rather than a single universal range for all A350-900s. Airbus, July 2026
A350-1000 and the developing ULR
Airbus’s July 2026 figure for the A350-1000 is up to 9,100 nautical miles in a classic three-class configuration. Airbus also reported in June 2026 that an A350-1000ULR test aircraft had made its first flight, linking the development to Qantas Project Sunrise. This establishes a first flight, not entry into scheduled passenger service; the cited report does not state a service-entry date. Airbus, July 2026; Airbus, June 2026

Why the Boeing 777-200LR has two published range figures
Boeing’s current 777 product page lists the 777-200LR at up to 8,500 nautical miles, with 300–375 seats in a two-class layout. Its 2005 unveiling announcement instead claimed 9,420 nautical miles with 301 passengers. Those are claims from different documents and dates, and the historical announcement’s passenger count does not make its figure directly comparable to the current product-page specification. For a present-day comparison, this article uses Boeing’s current 8,500-nautical-mile figure and treats 9,420 nautical miles only as historical context. Boeing 777 specifications; Boeing, February 2005
Maximum range is not a route distance
A scheduled route’s distance and an aircraft’s published maximum range answer different questions. The Singapore–New York example is a route Airbus described in 2018 as nearly 9,000 nautical miles; the A350-900ULR’s 9,700-nautical-mile figure is a manufacturer-stated maximum for a variant. Neither figure alone establishes the payload, weather, flight plan or present-day assignment for any particular departure. Seat layouts also vary, so a high maximum-range number should not be read as a guarantee that the aircraft can carry its maximum seating capacity across that distance.
