If you have an iPad (10th generation), two keyboard cases have clear, model-specific documentation: Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio and Logitech’s Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen). Choose the Magic Keyboard Folio when you want Apple’s two-piece case, detachable keyboard, trackpad, 14-key function row and adjustable stand. Choose the Combo Touch when a backlit detachable keyboard, 20–60-degree viewing range, Smart Connector power and front, back and corner protection matter more. Neither is a measured typing winner: no controlled comfort, durability or value test is available, so the sensible choice depends on the features you will actually use.
Confirm the exact iPad model and the operating-system requirement before ordering. Apple specifies iPad (10th generation) compatibility and iPadOS 18.3 or later for Magic Keyboard Folio; Logitech lists iPad (10th Gen) as the Combo Touch system requirement. Product names and regional listings can change, so check the current listing rather than assuming that any “Magic Keyboard” or “Combo Touch” fits.

The two documented keyboard cases for iPad (10th generation)
The strongest model-specific evidence is on the manufacturers’ own specification pages. Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio technical specifications identify iPad (10th generation) as a compatible model and require iPadOS 18.3 or later. Logitech’s Combo Touch specification names “iPad (10th Gen)” as the system requirement. Those are the two options you can match to this iPad with the least ambiguity.

Apple Magic Keyboard Folio: what its design is for
Apple describes the Magic Keyboard Folio as a two-piece case: a keyboard section and a protective back panel. The keyboard is detachable, so you can remove it when you want to use the iPad as a tablet while retaining the back protection. An integrated trackpad supports pointer-based work, and Apple lists a 14-key function row for system controls. The stand is adjustable rather than fixed, allowing you to change the viewing position for typing, reading or watching content. See Apple’s complete specification at support.apple.com/en-gb/111845.
That arrangement makes the Folio a logical choice for someone who switches between keyboard work and tablet use during the same day. You can leave the protective panel on the iPad, detach the keyboard when it is in the way, then reconnect it when you need a physical keyboard. The trackpad and function row are particularly relevant if you expect to use iPadOS shortcuts or pointer control instead of touching the display for every action.
Apple’s product overview calls it “the perfect iPad companion.” That sentence is Apple’s promotional description, not an independent assessment of typing quality or durability. Treat the documented hardware layout as the decision evidence: two-piece construction, detachable keyboard, trackpad, 14-key function row and adjustable stand.

Check the operating-system requirement
Apple’s current technical page states that Magic Keyboard Folio requires iPadOS 18.3 or later. Before buying, open Settings → General → Software Update on the iPad and install an available update if the device is below that version. If your iPad cannot update to the stated requirement, do not assume the keyboard will operate as documented; verify with Apple before checkout.
Logitech Combo Touch: what its design is for
Logitech’s model-specific specification lists the Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen) and documents a detachable, backlit keyboard with a trackpad. The keyboard draws power through the iPad’s Smart Connector, so Logitech’s specification does not describe a separate keyboard battery that you must charge. It also lists viewing angles from 20 to 60 degrees and protection for the front, back and corners. The manufacturer’s product page is logi.com/en-us/shop/p/combo-touch-ipad; use the model-specific support page at support.logi.com to confirm the 10th-generation requirement.
The documented backlighting matters if you type in dim rooms or want the keys visible without turning up the iPad’s screen brightness. The 20–60-degree range gives you a stated adjustment window for the stand, while the detachable keyboard lets you remove the typing section when you want an unobstructed tablet. Smart Connector power means the iPad supplies power through the physical connector; keep the connector area clean and ensure the case is seated correctly for the keyboard to work.

Choose by the way you use your iPad
For mixed tablet and typing use
Start with the detachable-keyboard requirement. Both cases document a keyboard that can be removed, so both support a tablet mode without leaving the typing surface attached. The Folio’s two-piece description explicitly pairs a detachable keyboard with a protective back panel; Combo Touch documents a detachable keyboard and protective coverage around the iPad. Decide whether the Folio’s 14-key function row or Combo Touch’s backlighting is more useful in your routine.
For writing in dim light
Backlighting is explicitly documented for Combo Touch. Apple’s cited Magic Keyboard Folio specification lists the function row and trackpad but does not state backlighting. If illuminated keys are essential, select the Logitech model only after confirming that the listing is for the 10th-generation version.

- Protection, Battery & Support: A thin hard-shell case protects all sides of your iPad and includes auto sleep/wake, Apple Pencil holder, USB-C rechargeable battery, and 12-month Typecase support
For shortcut-heavy iPadOS work
The Folio’s 14-key function row is the only one of the two with that feature specifically documented in the supplied specifications. A function row can reduce trips to on-screen controls, but the sources do not measure shortcut speed or productivity. Choose it because you value the documented row, not because it has been independently shown to type faster.
For variable viewing positions
Both products describe adjustable support, but Logitech gives a numerical range of 20 to 60 degrees. If you already know the angles you use at a desk, on a table or while reading, that stated range gives you a concrete check. Apple documents an adjustable stand without publishing an angle range on the cited page.

For physical coverage
Apple documents a protective back panel. Logitech explicitly lists front, back and corner protection. If exposed corners are a concern, the Logitech description answers that requirement more directly. Neither source establishes drop-test performance or a protection rating, so do not infer impact resistance beyond the stated coverage.

Verify the listing before you buy
Apple’s accessories catalog contains several keyboard products and iPad generations. Its regional iPad (10th generation) keyboard listing is useful for checking that a product is grouped with the correct tablet, but the individual product title still deserves scrutiny. Marketplace titles can omit generation details or combine photographs from different versions.
- Identify the iPad model. On the iPad, open Settings → General → About and confirm that the model is iPad (10th generation), not another iPad generation or size.
- Match the generation in the product title. Look for “iPad (10th generation)” or “iPad (10th Gen)” in the listing itself. Do not rely only on a seller’s category, photographs or a generic “iPad” label.
- Check software requirements. For Magic Keyboard Folio, confirm that the iPad can run iPadOS 18.3 or later, as Apple states on its technical page.
- Read the included-parts description. Confirm whether the listing includes the keyboard, protective panel or stand pieces you expect. A similarly named keyboard-only accessory may not be a complete case.
- Confirm regional details. Layout, language labeling, stock and return terms can vary by country. The cited Apple page is a Canada storefront, while the Logitech product page is a United States storefront; use the store for your region before ordering.
- Check the seller’s exact model number or compatibility list. If the listing does not explicitly name the 10th-generation iPad, ask the seller or choose a listing that does.
Setup: getting the keyboard case working
Magic Keyboard Folio
- Update the iPad to iPadOS 18.3 or later through Settings → General → Software Update.
- Attach the protective back panel and keyboard section according to Apple’s included instructions. The two-piece design allows the keyboard to be detached when you want tablet-only use.
- With the keyboard attached, open a text field in an app and type a short test sentence. Confirm that the trackpad moves the pointer and that the function-row keys respond to their documented controls.
- Adjust the stand to a comfortable viewing position. If the case does not respond, remove and reseat the pieces, inspect the contact area for debris and restart the iPad before contacting Apple support.
Combo Touch
- Confirm that the case is specifically for iPad (10th Gen), then fit the iPad into the protective shell so all corners are seated.
- Attach the detachable keyboard and align the Smart Connector contacts. Logitech states that the keyboard is powered by the iPad through Smart Connector, so no separate keyboard-pairing step is described in the cited specification.
- Open a text field and test several keys, the trackpad and the backlight controls. If the keyboard is dark or unresponsive, detach it, check the connector area and reconnect it firmly.
- Set the stand within the documented 20–60-degree range. Remove the keyboard when you want tablet-only handling while retaining the case’s protective sections.
Connection, power and software expectations
These are physical keyboard cases rather than generic Bluetooth keyboards. The sources specifically document Smart Connector power for Combo Touch. That means the iPad supplies power through the case connection; it also means a poor physical connection can look like a software fault. Keep the connector and surrounding case surfaces free of dust and make sure the iPad is fully seated.
For Magic Keyboard Folio, the critical documented software condition is iPadOS 18.3 or later. Apple’s page does not provide a battery figure, charging interval or independent performance measurement. Do not add a charging schedule or battery-life expectation based on assumptions about other keyboard products.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTroubleshooting checklist
The iPad does not recognise the keyboard
- Recheck that the case is the 10th-generation model, not a visually similar case for another iPad.
- Install the required iPadOS update for Magic Keyboard Folio.
- Detach and reattach the keyboard, ensuring that the physical contacts are aligned and clean.
- Restart the iPad and test in a basic text field such as Notes.
- If the problem remains, consult the manufacturer’s support page for the exact model and your region before attempting repairs.
The trackpad does not move the pointer
- Test with the keyboard fully attached and the iPad unlocked.
- Check that the case is not partially detached or pressing unevenly against the connector.
- Try another app to distinguish an app-specific issue from a system-wide one.
- Review iPadOS pointer settings and update the iPad if an update is available.
The Combo Touch backlight is not visible
- Confirm that you purchased the backlit Combo Touch model for iPad (10th Gen), not a keyboard-only or different-generation listing.
- Reconnect the keyboard through Smart Connector and verify that the iPad has charge.
- Test the brightness controls in a dim room; strong ambient light can make a backlight appear weaker.
The stand will not hold the desired position
- Remove any material caught in the hinge or stand area.
- Set the Combo Touch within its stated 20–60-degree range.
- For the Folio, reposition the adjustable stand on a stable surface and avoid placing pressure on the edge of the iPad.
- If a hinge is loose or damaged on arrival, document the condition and use the seller’s return or warranty process rather than forcing it.
What the available evidence cannot tell you
Manufacturer specifications establish compatibility and listed features, not a universal ranking. There is no controlled comparison here of key travel, noise, typing speed, wrist comfort, trackpad precision, hinge longevity, protection in a drop or total carrying weight. Those factors can vary with hand size, posture, desk surface and individual preference. Read user reviews for anecdotes if you wish, but separate subjective impressions from the documented facts in the comparison table.
Prices, availability and stock are time- and region-dependent. The cited pages do not establish a current price or a recurring discount, so check the checkout page in your country. Apple and Logitech can revise product pages, operating-system requirements or compatibility lists; recheck them immediately before purchase.
A practical decision rule
- Choose Magic Keyboard Folio if the iPad can run iPadOS 18.3 or later and you specifically want Apple’s documented two-piece case, detachable keyboard, trackpad, 14-key function row and adjustable stand.
- Choose Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen) if you specifically want a backlit detachable keyboard, trackpad, Smart Connector power, a stated 20–60-degree stand range and front, back and corner protection.
- If neither feature set answers your main need, pause rather than buying a generic case. Recheck model compatibility, keyboard layout, return terms and the current regional listing.
That rule keeps the recommendation tied to documented requirements instead of an unsupported claim that one case is universally “best.”
