They serve different jobs rather than forming a tested or objectively ranked top four.
What Jellyfin apps do
Jellyfin clients connect to your server so you can browse and play your media on supported devices. The official client documentation describes that role; the client directory is the place to check current platform availability and listings.

These four apps cover distinct use cases. Jellyfin also lists clients for Android, iOS, Roku, WebOS, Tizen, Xbox, and desktop, as well as Kodi-related and other third-party options. Pick according to the devices you actually use, rather than assuming one client is right for every screen.

Four Jellyfin clients and what each is for
Findroid: Android movies and series
Findroid is a third-party Android app with a native interface for browsing and playing movies and series, according to Jellyfin’s client directory. It is the natural starting point if you want a dedicated video-browsing app on an Android phone or tablet.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
Finamp: music and offline downloads
Finamp is a third-party music playback app. Jellyfin’s directory describes offline mode and song downloads, making it a useful fit for listeners who want a mobile music client and the option to listen without a live connection to their server. Check its current listing for supported platforms and features.
Swiftfin: video on Apple devices
Swiftfin is listed as an Official Beta and described as a modern Jellyfin video client with an emphasis on direct play and support for Apple devices. Jellyfin’s Swiftfin announcement says it was built for Apple devices using SwiftUI and VLCKit. That 2022 announcement gave iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS 15 as the minimum at the time; treat that as historical information, not a current compatibility guarantee. Check the live client listing and the app’s current requirements before installing.
Jellyfin for Android TV: the living-room screen
Jellyfin’s directory identifies this as its official app for Android TV and Fire TV devices. It is the clear fit in this group for watching on a television. If you are choosing a Fire TV device, check its operating system and the app listing first: Jellyfin’s May 24, 2026 State of the Fin said its client for Amazon’s newer Vega OS was still a prototype, so compatibility should not be assumed across every Fire TV generation.

Release notes are time-bound. The same May 2026 update said Android TV 0.20 had been postponed until Jellyfin 12.0; Jellyfin later announced the stable server release on September 7, 2026. That sequence does not establish the Android TV app’s current release status or version. Use its live directory listing rather than relying on a dated version report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right client
Start with the screen you use
Confirm that the app is currently available for your phone, tablet, computer, or TV in Jellyfin’s client directory. Platform availability can change, and a client for one device is not automatically available on another.
Match the app to the media
- For movies and series on Android, consider Findroid.
- For a music library and offline song downloads, consider Finamp.
- For Apple-device video playback, consider Swiftfin.
- For Android TV or supported Fire TV devices, consider Jellyfin for Android TV.
Understand playback compatibility
The client name alone does not determine whether a file plays smoothly. Jellyfin’s codec support documentation explains that Direct Play is the goal when the client supports the file’s container, video and audio codecs, and subtitles. If part of that combination is unsupported, the server may need to Direct Stream or transcode; subtitles can also require remuxing or video transcoding. The result depends on the particular device and media file as well as the app.
Check sign-in options for TVs
Quick Connect uses a temporary code so you can sign in on a new device without typing your account credentials there. Support varies by client, so consult Jellyfin’s Quick Connect support table if you are choosing an app for a TV or another device with limited input.

Jellyfin says its server and official clients are free to download on its official site. Findroid and Finamp are third-party clients; consult their current directory listings for their terms and availability. The directory is a living catalog, so confirm the app’s platform, status, and requirements before you install it.
