Start by reviewing battery use, app privacy permissions, notifications, display comfort, and camera shortcuts. There is no single best setup for every iPhone 17 Pro Max: keep the controls that support how you use the phone, and change only what improves your own routine.
These steps apply to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, introduced in 2025, but menu names and available sections can vary with iOS version. Apple’s live iPhone guide is presented in an iOS 27 context. If a path below does not match your phone, update iOS in Settings or use the Settings search field and enter the setting’s name. 1. Check battery use before changing charging settings
Open Settings > Battery and look at usage information to see which apps and activities are consuming power. Use that information to decide whether a change is worth making, rather than switching controls without knowing what you want to address.
Battery settings include Adaptive Power, Low Power Mode, Charge Limit, Optimized Battery Charging, and Clean Energy Charging. Review the available options in light of your usage and charging routine. 2. Review privacy permissions app by app
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security and inspect which apps can access information such as your location, photos, camera, microphone, and contacts. Keep access when it supports a feature you want; revoke it when you no longer want that access. Apple also provides controls for managing app tracking prompts and permissions. Use location access that fits the feature
Review location access for each app and choose the least access that still supports the feature you use. Turning off Location Services for the entire phone is a much broader change: Apple warns, “This will limit the performance of various Apple and third-party apps.” Apple: About privacy and Location Services

3. Choose what can interrupt you
In Settings > Notifications, review apps individually and decide which ones need permission to alert you. You can also consider Scheduled Summary for notifications you would rather receive together than as they arrive.
For recurring situations, configure a Focus such as Do Not Disturb or a Focus for work or sleep. Which apps and people should be allowed through depends on your schedule and priorities; there is no universal notification or Focus setup. Apple: Change notification settings · Apple: Set up a Focus

4. Tune the display for how and where you use it
Explore appearance, text size, brightness, Night Shift, Auto-Lock, and Raise to Wake in Settings. Adjust text and appearance for comfortable reading, then check brightness and screen behavior in the places you normally use the phone. The right combination depends on your preferences and surroundings; Apple’s guidance identifies the controls but does not prescribe one best setting. 5. Set up camera controls around your habits
In Settings > Camera, review photo and video formats, resolution, and the grid option. Choose capture settings with your storage needs and the way you use photos and video in mind; a higher or different capture setting is not automatically the right choice for every workflow.

Find a setting when the path is different
Open Settings and use the search field to enter a term such as “volume” or the specific control you want. This is useful when a menu path has changed between iOS versions or when a setting is nested in a different section on your device. Apple: Find settings on iPhone
