There is no reliable set of universal brightness, contrast, color, or sharpness numbers: picture modes and menus vary by model and platform.
First identify your Insignia TV’s platform and model
Insignia TVs do not all use the same menus. The steps below for Quick Settings apply to Fire TV smart TVs. Older or non-Fire TV models can have different remote controls, menu labels, and available modes. Check the model number on the TV or its settings screen and consult the matching manual if a menu option is missing. Which picture mode should you use for movies?
Choose Movie when it is available, then judge the image in the room and with the content you watch. On the specific Insignia NS-32D312NA15, the manual describes Movie mode as adjusting brightness and contrast and lowering sharpness for a more realistic picture. That description applies to that model, not necessarily to newer Insignia TVs. NS-32D312NA15 user manual.
Some Fire TV sets use other movie-oriented labels, such as Movie Bright, Movie Dark, or Film Maker Mode. Amazon lists these among examples of Fire TV picture modes and notes that the available choices vary by device. Choose the option that suits your viewing conditions rather than assuming every Insignia TV has the same labels. Amazon Fire TV picture troubleshooting.

How to change picture mode on an Insignia Fire TV
- Press and hold the Home or Settings button on the remote to open Quick Settings.
- Choose Picture, then Picture Mode.
- Select Movie for films or Game for gaming, if the mode is listed.
- If you dislike the changes, use Picture Reset to restore the starting settings for that picture mode.
These are Fire TV platform instructions; an older Insignia TV may use a separate Picture menu. The available modes depend on the TV. Amazon Fire TV picture troubleshooting.
How to set up Game mode on a supported Fire TV
Game mode is the gaming-oriented picture option, but it is separate from features such as VRR and ALLM. Amazon’s instructions for compatible Fire TV smart TVs include configuring the HDMI input as well as selecting Game mode:
- Open Quick Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and choose Game.
- Open Input Settings > HDMI > Input Mode and choose Auto or Gaming, if those choices are available.
- Check the TV’s gaming settings for VRR and ALLM, and enable them if the TV and connected gaming device support them.
Menus and feature availability vary. VRR and ALLM are not present on every Fire TV smart TV, and a console or PC must also support the relevant feature. Amazon’s guidance identifies HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 for 4K/UHD at 120 or 144 Hz only on compatible Fire TV smart TVs; do not assume those refresh rates work on every Insignia model. - Supports HDMI ARC - Sends audio directly from the HDMI jack to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver, removing the need for an extra cable.
Why can a console make the picture look different?
A connected console or PC uses an HDMI input, so the input’s configuration can matter alongside the picture mode. A different-looking image does not by itself mean the TV needs a universal numeric adjustment: available modes and gaming features depend on the TV, the selected HDMI input, and the connected device. If Game mode makes the image less appealing to you, compare it with another available mode; the official guidance presents Game as the gaming option, not as a guarantee of the best-looking picture for every viewer.
What to check when HDR or Dolby Vision is missing
For an external source, verify that both the content and the connected device support the format you expect. On Fire TV smart TVs, Amazon’s HDR troubleshooting also recommends checking the HDMI Input Mode; its described path refers to Auto or Mode 2 (2.0). The exact labels can differ by model, so use the choices shown on your TV rather than assuming every Insignia set has the same HDMI options. Amazon Fire TV HDR troubleshooting.
