For compact black-and-white printing, consider the HP LaserJet M209dw; for color documents, the Color LaserJet Pro 3201dw; and for heavier monochrome workloads, the LaserJet Pro 4001dn or wireless 4001dw. These are workload-based picks, not a universal ranking. Confirm the full model name, functions, and availability for your country before buying.
Five HP LaserJets for different workloads
The models below occupy distinct roles rather than competing on one measure. TechRadar’s guide, last updated June 13, 2026, reports its own testing and specifications; the observations attributed to it are that reviewer’s, not firsthand testing by this article.

| Use case | Model to consider | What the cited guide reports | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact black-and-white printing | HP LaserJet M209dw | TechRadar describes it as a compact monochrome option for a small home office. | Confirm exact functions, connectivity, price, and regional availability on the listing for your market. |
| Compact color documents | HP Color LaserJet Pro 3201dw; 3202dw in the UK | TechRadar lists 26 pages per minute and a 250-sheet capacity, and reports sharp text and vivid color in its tests. The reviewer says it is poor for photos. | It is print-only according to the guide. Check the exact regional model and whether its paper capacity suits your workload. |
| Higher-volume color documents | HP Color LaserJet Pro 4201dw; 4202dw in the UK | TechRadar lists 35 pages per minute and a 300-sheet expandable capacity. Its reviewer flags costly color cartridges, limited in-box toner, no touchscreen, and no Bluetooth or NFC. | It is print-only according to the guide. Check toner costs and the interface and connections you need. |
| Fast, wired monochrome printing | HP LaserJet Pro 4001dn; 4002dn in the UK | TechRadar lists up to 42 pages per minute and 350 sheets, expandable by 550. Its reviewer reports fast, consistent office printing, but notes a small display and soft print quality in some settings. | The 4001dn has no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or NFC according to the guide. The 4001dw is the Wi-Fi counterpart; verify the suffix and regional version. |
| Wireless, higher-volume monochrome printing | HP LaserJet Pro 4001dw | TechRadar identifies it as the Wi-Fi version in this Pro 4000-class monochrome lineup. | Verify the precise model suffix and supported connections in your country. |
How to choose by workload and team size
Use monthly pages and the number of people sharing the printer as a first filter, not as a guarantee of speed, reliability, or running cost. HP publishes guidance at the family level; its recommended volumes and maximums may not apply identically to every model.

| HP series guidance | HP’s stated orientation | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| LaserJet 200 | Regular compact black-and-white printing; up to 2,000 recommended pages monthly and up to five users. | A starting point for a small, mostly monochrome workload. |
| Pro 3000 monochrome | Frequent printing up to 2,500 pages monthly and up to seven users; speeds up to 35 pages per minute and up to 250-sheet maximum paper capacity. | Consider for a busier small team, while checking the exact model’s features. |
| Pro 4000 monochrome | Up to 4,000 pages monthly and up to 10 users; speeds up to 42 pages per minute and up to 900-sheet maximum capacity. | Use as family-level orientation for a higher-volume shared printer, not as a promise that each model has the maximum capacity. |
These figures come from HP’s series guidance. They are recommendations or family maximums, not a product-by-product guarantee. The reviewed 4001dn, for example, is listed by TechRadar with 350 sheets expandable by 550.

Choose color, monochrome, or multifunction
Monochrome for routine documents
If your work is mostly invoices, forms, drafts, or other black-and-white pages, a monochrome model avoids paying for color capability you may not use. Match the model to the volume and connection needs above rather than selecting by headline speed alone.
Color for business documents, not photo printing
The 3201dw is the compact color pick here; the 4201dw is positioned for a heavier color workload. TechRadar’s reviewer reports vivid color and detailed text from the 3201dw, but says it performs poorly for photos. If photographic output is the priority, the reviewed guide advises looking beyond laser printers.

Print-only versus all-in-one
The reviewed 3201dw and 4201dw are print-only. If you need an all-in-one for home-office work, confirm that the exact model provides scanning and copying; fax is available only on some configurations in HP’s family-level descriptions. A family page does not establish that every model or suffix includes those functions.
Check connections and regional model names
Connectivity can change with a model suffix. TechRadar distinguishes the wired 4001dn from the Wi-Fi 4001dw. The guide uses 3201dw and 4201dw names, while identifying 3202dw and 4202dw as the UK equivalents; it likewise identifies 4002dn as the UK name for 4001dn. Treat these as regional naming examples, not a substitute for checking a live listing.

- SUPER FAST – Blazing fast print speeds up to 33 pages per minute with auto paper jam recovery
- STAYS CONNECTED – Avoid interruptions with Wi-Fi that intelligently looks for the best connection to stay online
- For Wi-Fi printing, verify Wi-Fi on the exact model and regional listing.
- If you rely on Ethernet, mobile printing, or AirPrint, confirm that support for the particular model rather than assuming it from the series name.
- If your network is wired-only, the 4001dn may fit; if you require Wi-Fi, check the 4001dw and its local equivalent.
Estimate the cost beyond the printer
Purchase price alone does not show the cost of keeping a printer in service. TechRadar’s reviewer flags costly color cartridges and limited toner supplied with the color picks. Current cartridge numbers, yields, and prices have not been established here, so a reliable cost-per-page comparison is not available.
Before choosing, look up the replacement toner for the exact model and confirm its cartridge number, compatibility, stated yield, and current price. Compare expected toner use alongside the printer price; do not assume another model’s cartridge or yield applies.

What the broader HP business context does—and does not—tell you
In a March 24, 2026 corporate announcement, HP attributed survey findings to its Workflow Wakeup report: 78% of SMBs struggle with printer management, 54% of organizations push for faster digitization, 80% of SMBs plan to adopt or expand print-related software, and 70% expect to shift IT budgets toward AI by 2027. These are HP-reported survey results, not universal measurements or evidence that a particular printer will suit your business.

HP also said its new Pro 4000/4100 family was expected in May 2026 and Enterprise 5000/6000 family availability more broadly in June 2026. Those were dated expectations, not confirmation of present stock. An announcement by itself does not establish current price or availability.
