Upgrade the firearm you use most, and choose the attachment that fixes a handling problem you actually experience. Hellraiser: Revival does not have a source-supported “best first upgrade” for every player. Each firearm has five upgrade slots, attachments compete for those slots, and the available guides provide no controlled damage or survival tests. Your first purchase should therefore follow your current weapon use, the encounters ahead, the handling change you want, and the cost and availability at the shop you can reach.
The direct answer: upgrade your main firearm, not the most impressive item in the shop
Hellraiser: Revival is a single-player first-person action-horror survival game with melee weapons, firearms and special abilities built around the Genesis Configuration. The arsenal described in the launch coverage includes a pistol, revolver, submachine gun, assault rifle, breakable knives and bats, plus telekinesis and pyrokinesis. Because different players can lean on different parts of that arsenal, a universal upgrade order has not been established.

The most defensible first choice is the compatible attachment for the gun you already draw most often. If you regularly run dry during a fight, a magazine upgrade may solve a real problem. If your pistol feels too slow between shots, a fire-rate attachment may be more valuable to you. Those are handling decisions, not proof that one attachment has higher damage or makes the campaign easier for everyone.
This distinction matters because the available guides explain how upgrades work and where some attachments appear, but they do not publish controlled tests, complete comparative weapon statistics or a validated optimal route. In-game price is also not a performance rating. A more expensive attachment is not automatically the stronger first purchase.

How firearm upgrades work
Install attachments through the inventory
Thumb Wars and NowGame describe the same basic process: select an attachment in your inventory and install it on a compatible firearm. Compatibility is a hard requirement. An upgrade that is available in the shop still does nothing for a weapon that cannot accept it, so inspect the target gun before spending Coins.
Every firearm has five upgrade slots
The guides describe five firearm upgrade slots. The pool of possible attachments can be larger than those five spaces, which creates an opportunity cost: installing one part can prevent another part from occupying that slot. Do not treat every available attachment as a mandatory purchase. Decide which handling characteristics matter for your build, then reserve slots for those changes.
Attachments change handling, not a proven universal damage ranking
The documented effects include changes to fire rate and magazine size. The sources do not establish a complete table of damage, recoil, accuracy, stagger or ammunition efficiency for every attachment. You should therefore describe your goal in practical terms—fewer reload interruptions, a faster follow-up shot or a more comfortable weapon—rather than assuming a shop label guarantees better overall performance.
A five-step method for choosing your first upgrade
- Identify your actual workhorse. Look at the weapon you use through most encounters, not the gun you intend to use later. A pistol carried through several rooms is a better first-upgrade candidate than an assault rifle you have barely fired.
- Name the problem you want to fix. Choose one concrete issue: running out of rounds before an enemy drops, losing time to reloads, or needing faster follow-up shots. If you cannot name the problem, save the Coins until the weapon gives you a reason to change it.
- Check the attachment’s compatibility. Open the inventory, select the part and confirm that the intended firearm is listed as compatible. This prevents spending on a part that cannot be installed on your current loadout.
- Audit all five slots before committing. Compare the new part with the other attachments you can already buy or expect to find. Since the slots are limited, an apparently useful part may block a later upgrade that better matches your playstyle.
- Reassess after your arsenal expands. Shop stock and attachment availability are tied to progression and visits. A first purchase that is sensible for the early pistol does not lock you into the same plan for the revolver, SMG or assault rifle.
This sequence is practical guidance inferred from the documented mechanics. It is not a tested campaign route, and it does not claim that one attachment wins a damage comparison that has not been published.
Early example: the pistol options at Zora’s first shop
A current guide lists two early pistol attachments at Zora’s first shop: Hair Trigger for 150 Coins and Extended Magazine for 180 Coins. The guide does not provide comparative effectiveness data, so use these as examples of two different handling priorities rather than as a ranking.

| Attachment | Listed price | Documented type of change | When it fits your problem |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hair Trigger | 150 Coins | Fire-rate change | Consider it when faster follow-up shots are more useful to you than carrying additional rounds. |
| Extended Magazine | 180 Coins | Magazine-size change | Consider it when reload interruptions are the problem and you routinely spend several pistol rounds per encounter. |
The prices and stock are launch-version details reported for that shop visit. They may change with patches or progression. Neither price demonstrates superior damage, resource efficiency or survival value.
When Hair Trigger is the sensible first pick
Hair Trigger is the logical candidate if your pistol’s limiting factor is the interval between shots. A faster fire rate can make follow-up shots feel more responsive, but it also makes ammunition disappear faster if you fire without control. Before buying, consider whether you can reliably land the extra shots and whether your current ammunition supply makes a higher firing tempo comfortable.

When Extended Magazine is the sensible first pick
Extended Magazine addresses a different friction point: the number of rounds available before a reload. It is a reasonable first purchase if you are repeatedly forced into reload animations while enemies remain active. It will not, by itself, prove that the pistol kills faster, and it does not remove the need to manage scavenged ammunition.
Match the first upgrade to the weapon you actually use
Pistol
The pistol is a natural early investment because the guide documents attachments for it at the first Zora shop. Choose between fire-rate and magazine-size priorities based on your encounters and ammunition habits. If you later shift to a different primary firearm, do not keep buying pistol parts simply because the first upgrade was useful.
Revolver
The revolver is part of the documented arsenal, and NowGame includes it in its upgrade locations. The available material does not provide a complete revolver attachment list or comparative statistics. Treat it as a later decision: install a part only after confirming compatibility and identifying the handling change you want.

- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
Submachine gun
An SMG can naturally encourage rapid fire, but the sources do not establish how its attachments alter damage, recoil or ammunition consumption. If you rely on it for close-range control, select the attachment that addresses the behavior you notice in play and keep the five-slot limit in view.
Assault rifle
The assault rifle is also named in the review and upgrade guide. Its presence does not make it the mandatory first investment. Save Coins for it only when it becomes a regular part of your encounters; otherwise, an early upgrade on the pistol or another weapon you draw more often gives you a more immediate benefit.
Shotgun
NowGame lists shotgun upgrades among its locations, but the supplied information does not state a complete set of effects or prices. Use the same compatibility and slot audit as for every other firearm. Do not infer a best shotgun attachment from its category alone.
Melee weapons and the Genesis Configuration
Hellraiser: Revival also uses gruesome melee weapons, breakable knives and bats, and Genesis Configuration abilities such as telekinesis and pyrokinesis. These tools compete with firearms for your attention but are not evidence that a particular gun upgrade should come first. If a melee weapon or ability is carrying your encounters, it can be rational to delay a firearm purchase until you use that gun consistently.
Do not confuse the Deluxe Nailer with a cosmetic upgrade
Saber Interactive’s official FAQ distinguishes the Deluxe Nailer from cosmetic weapon skins. The Deluxe Nailer is a full melee weapon obtained from Zora’s shop at the first encounter; it is not merely a visual skin applied to another weapon. That distinction matters when budgeting: acquiring a separate melee weapon is a different decision from installing an attachment in one of a firearm’s five slots.

How shop timing and Coins should influence the decision
Attachment locations and shop stock are staged across progression. The documented pistol prices at Zora’s first shop show why timing matters: Hair Trigger costs 150 Coins and Extended Magazine costs 180 Coins, but the guide does not establish that these prices are permanent across every version or visit. Keep enough currency for the attachment that solves your actual problem instead of buying every part immediately.
Before a purchase, ask three questions:
- Will this weapon remain in my active loadout for the next several encounters?
- Does the attachment solve a problem I have already observed?
- Will occupying one of five slots prevent a more useful option later?
If the answer to the first two is no, waiting is usually safer than spending. The guides describe several firearms and staged stock, but they do not prove a single full-campaign order for buying every upgrade.

Buying for availability instead of use
A part appearing in a shop is not a command to purchase it. If you rarely draw the compatible weapon, keep the Coins for the gun that handles most of your fights.
Filling all five slots without a plan
Because each firearm has five slots, installing several merely acceptable parts can crowd out a change you later value more. Review the complete attachment pool shown for that weapon before filling the final spaces.

Assuming price equals power
The documented 150- and 180-Coin pistol options are examples of cost, not measured effectiveness. No source supplies a tested conversion between Coins and damage, survival or ammunition efficiency.

Ignoring ammunition and scavenging
Creative Bloq describes crafting ammunition and health from scavenged junk. A fire-rate change can feel helpful while increasing the speed at which you consume rounds; a larger magazine can reduce reload frequency without increasing the amount of ammunition you carry. Track your own scavenging and reload pattern rather than relying on a theoretical advantage.
Expecting a permanent perfect route
Availability and prices can be version-sensitive. If a patch changes shop stock or attachment behavior, revisit the same five-step method instead of assuming an older guide remains an exact route.
A practical decision checklist
- Choose the firearm you use most in the current section.
- Write down the handling problem you want to correct.
- Confirm the attachment is compatible in the inventory.
- Compare it with other parts competing for the five slots.
- Check the current shop price and progression requirement.
- Keep enough Coins for a later part that better fits your loadout.
- Revisit the choice when a revolver, SMG, assault rifle or shotgun becomes a regular weapon.
What this means for a first playthrough
The official FAQ describes Hellraiser: Revival as a single-player game and estimates a campaign of roughly 8–12 hours depending on playstyle. That relatively compact run makes flexible spending more valuable than trying to build every weapon at once. Invest where the next encounters will actually benefit, then adapt as the arsenal and shop stock expand.
For a player at Zora’s first shop with a frequently used pistol, Hair Trigger at 150 Coins is the handling-first option, while Extended Magazine at 180 Coins is the reload-management option. Pick neither solely because it is listed first or costs less. Pick the one that addresses the problem you can identify in your own fights, and leave room in the pistol’s five slots for a later attachment that may fit your route better.
Availability and edition context
Saber Interactive’s official support FAQ reports an October 8, 2026 release and lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam availability at the time of access. It also confirms physical PS5 and Xbox Series X|S discs, a Nintendo Switch 2 game-key-card edition and a Steam demo. These edition details do not change the in-game upgrade logic, but they help explain why shop behavior and prices should be checked against the version you are playing.
Bottom line
There is no evidence-backed universal first weapon upgrade in Hellraiser: Revival. Spend first on the compatible attachment for the firearm you use most, choose the handling change that fixes a demonstrated problem, and protect the weapon’s five limited slots. At the early pistol shop, Hair Trigger and Extended Magazine are useful examples of fire-rate versus magazine-size priorities—not a proven winner. Reevaluate as your arsenal, progression and the game version change.
